I really miss posting and reading.  I have a moment today and wanted to see what I can learn!  I have now (finally) completed a full SWAMI and surprisingly changed from my manually self-determined GT4 Explorer to a GT2 Gatherer.  One thing that I don't have and am very interested in is Far-Infrared Sauna equipment.  I have about 140 pounds to lose and since being good at storing fat also means being at risk for accumulating xenobiotics (man made chemicals), as I lose it I understand this type sauna could be of great value for detoxing.

So now to my question.  When I look on Amazon, I see I could spend as little as a few hundred for a couple of models which are collapsible and allow your head and/or forearms and hands to stick out.  I could also spend up to $1200 - $1500 for a tiny little wood room I could sit in.  From some quick research those seem to be the options (as I want to stay under $1500).

I wondered what other forum members thoughts are about this type equipment.  I think the benefit will be worth even the more expensive type equipment, but of course if the types for a few hundred dollars are just as effective and inviting to use over and over, I wouldn't mind the savings.

What have been your experiences and what would you recommend?

I also wanted to say I do have access to a traditional dry sauna at my 24-Hour Fitness health club.  Note that I'm a member there because I got in 10 years ago and fixed a lifetime rate of $99 per year for any club nationally which include pools, classes, an app to find classes at any of the 10 or so clubs in my area.  So if a traditional spa is sufficient, that would be ok too.

I work with a trainer 2 - 3 times a week and will be through at least September.  She has my full  SWAMI report and understands much of the science behind it.  It's a great trainer/trainee relationship which is not always easy to find.

Anyway, any knowledge you can share about far-infrared would be very helpful as I'd love to place the order today!  Also, might surprise mom and dad with one of these devices soon. They're 78 and 76, workout at the gym (including spinning and kickboxing) five days a week and do their own lawn and gardening.  And they do it all together after 53 years of marriage and are my best friends!  Both are non-secretors.  Mom is Blood Group O Rhesus Positive like me and Dad is Blood Group B Rhesus positive.  We're a whole family of non-secretors!

Thanks!

Tom

Hi!
I have owned an infrared sauna for two years. We love it! Infrared is a deep heat that penetrates  a few inches into the body. Apparently if one took a sauna every day for one year, most of the toxins would be pulled out of the body.
Far North Saunas is the name of the company - they are a Canadian company  and ship to the U.S. as well. As far as I know, they are the only company to keep the Electro Magnetic Fields (EMFs), within safe guidelines. A friend had one tested previous to purchasing the Far North sauna and it was off the charts; he replaced it with a Far North sauna and had that tested and it was fine. So...we got one also and use it frequently - especially me, I am an Explorer. It really gets the lymph moving and as the toxins are stored in the fat, you have the bonus of losing some weight. We bought a model that is for the basement because of the ceilings being low, I think you have to ask about this as it is not listed. It seats one or two. Easy to put together and it is collapsible so if I ever move I can bring it with me and it does not take much room. I will never be without it wherever life takes me!

Thanks Dianne.  This feedback helps.  I am trying to decide two things.  First is it something that I will use often and love or is it something that is a good idea, but might be hard to get dollars spent on the right one and then be sorry I got something which might have issues like EMFs.

Can you tell me more about EMFs and how they relate to a far infrared as far as being in safe guidelines or not?  Does being out of guidelines effect the effectiveness of the treatment using the sauna or just add a dangerous element.  And what is the danger of EMF's?   Is it similar to the danger reported from using an electric blanket or a cell phone?

Hi Tom!
Yes, EMF's have a danger element, affects nervous system, lead to cancer etc...several companies will tell you that their equipment has low EMF's when indeed they don't. This one claims it on their website and it has been tested independently by myself and our friend. We have a mutual friend who is a qualified electrician and qualified regarding environmental pollution about electricity. He gets hired by school boards, privately... He tested our first sauna and the numbers were high.
I had a gym membership, but as I am a fairly private person, prefer to walk, exercise at home and of course the sauna. It's the Explorer - "I'll do it my way!" which is how I seem to conduct myself.

did you follow my posts about HGC.. just a thought..

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!
