When I was a 100% Raw Vegan, one of my favorite things to eat was a Kale salad It called for lemon, apple cider vinegar, red and yellow bell peppers, red onion, cumin, garlic sea salt, spicy chili peppers, and avocado. I LOVE this salad. I want to make it again but avocado's are an avoid and apple cider vinegar. I could just use the lemon only and be okay but what of the creaminess of the avocado? Any suggestions for an alternative? |

I love avocados but they - along with most other fruits/vegs in the latex related allergy camp - soooo do not like me Never thought about substituting pureed fresh peas in a salad Good suggestion |

I'm looking at the alternatives offered, and I'm thinking: It depends upon what you're missing about those avocados! None of those would work for me, because what the avo is providing there is: FAT. And these others are giving you fiber and/or starch... I think you need to find an oil source that will satisfy you there. Or at least I would. And - by the way - that salad looks very, very nice. |

Do you have a SWAMI? Avocados are a neutral for me on my SWAMI but the apple cider vinegar is still an avoid. |

Ume vinegar, which is actually a brine, is listed as a neutral on my SWAMI. I use that almost exclusively on my salads. Tart, sour, and salty, three of my favorite sensations. I love a good kale salad (replacing kale leaves for lettuce). |

Furthur on Patty H's comment. Even knowing your secretor status can make the difference. They are beneficial for O non-secretors if you're following the O Blood Type Diet. Since I went to SWAMI they are now neutral for me. |

San J has a good point about the fat. I think walnut oil, if that is ok for you, would give the pureed peas a good nutty flavor as well as fat. Or if not walnut oil, some other nut oil like hazelnut or something along those lines. |

Maybe add a bit of your oil allowance, to your salad! You will then get the healthy fat, the avocados would have provided along with your peas. Enjoy and do tell us, how it works out for you. |

I had avocado added then taken away then added some .. so all over the place..
so would want to know why its avoid? the fat? or the rest of it? how often would you eat it? maybe switch on of ..
was it taste?
all different answers.. different solutions..
I can eat them as fruit.. like apples slices,
in my Swami it advises against avocado oil. so all over the place.. you be the judge.. |

I'm thinking a little lime juice with a touch of agave syrup, if you can have it, as blend instead of the the cider vinegar. Or with a splash of apple juice. Then, instead of the avocados, oil the salad well and sprinkle toasted pepitas (pumpkin seeds) on it for the fat. I'd chop the pumpkin seeds so that the pieces are small and distribute crunch throughout. I'd also like a smattering of minced cilantro on this salad. Whaddaya think? |

I too was thinking of pumpkin seeds - for the special light green colour and the nutritional value, in the form of butter/paste. Of course they won't give the same fine smooth creaminess and the delicate taste of the avocado. I also go for the artichoke hearts. |

Inspiration Cascade! I sat down to read this thread with a little Indian snack off to the side. I had spooned a bit of raita and a bit of mint/cilantro/chili chutney onto the dish. And the creaminess of the melange hit me. "Yogurt?" I thought. Not for the O. So I looked up Dairy for you in LR4YT and see what's permitted you. Believe it or not, I have a marvelous answer for you, with your other ingredients: Crumbled goat cheese. Yes. And I'd shave just a bit of jicama into this salad, too, if that's permitted you. Move over avocado: This is a splendid combination. Goat cheese is fresh and creamy. There are very young ones with minimal taste, and I think one of these would serve you well. Enjoy. |

OOOHHHH Thanks everyone!!!! So many great ideas. I want to try them all. I used the avacodo for its creaminess. What I do is massage the kale and all the other ingredients together using my hands (it makes the kale nice and soft). OMG, I am getting excited just thinking about this salad (ONE OF MY ALL TIME FAVORITES). I hope some of you try it. This is an awesome salad. |

Would Tahini work? It's very creamy....use the light (in colour) one though, the other one can taste a bit bitter. Do you shred the kale? I can't picture the finished salad |

Oh boy... The bitterness of dark tahini is something I like too much I should (again that shoulding!) eat it smaller amounts. But I still miss avocado |
