Does anyone know or have experience regarding the best diet for diabetes. I am not quite sure if I should be following my swami diet or the suggestions found in Dr. D's diabetes book. Any comments and/or suggestions would be quite welcome. Thanks. |

If using SWAMI, be sure to select all the settings that indicate you have diabetes.
The SWAMI software is the most up to date diet and will adjust its diet plan to treat diabetes if that is indicated on the input.
Some people prefer the diabetes book, because it more fully explains why foods are being selected for people with diabetes. |

How does your SWAMI vary from the suggestions in the Diabetes book? The books often have information that SWAMI lacks, although the food list in SWAMI supercedes any of the books (assuming you entered everything acurately in SWAMI and ticked off all the appropriate boxes for your health history.) |

you can always double check on the book......and be more vigilant as to how you feel adding certain foods.....if swami considers a diabetes book avoid to be but a neutral or even a SF in your swami, then try it out and see...... |

JoAnn, there is an old thread discussing this topic which you may find interesting. It you add a comment to it, it will come up as a current topic. http://www.dadamo.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?v-search/b-GTDdiet/p-bs/Looking back I prefer what happened for me which was to use the Diabetes book intensively during the immediate phase after diagnosis, then graduating to the Genotype, then Swami as I made excellent progress. I must admit that I have not directly compared my Diabetes book with my Swami diet, but my feeling is that the former was stricter, and more single minded. But it is up to you, whichever you are comfortable with. I was cleaning out my fridge today and had great joy in throwing out an old packet of diabetes medicine.( saved for a rainy day for almost two years) |

I too have diabetes and just got my SWAMI Xpress today. I am a Nomad and am anxious to see the results when following the GTD. |

I wondered about this as well and I thought you had to have the professional SWAMI done to include medical conditions. My SWAMI profile does not give you the option of selecting diabetes. It does ask if you have had high A1C. I got the diabetes book from the library and am following my SWAMI along with the recommendations in the diabetes book. |

I think there are several questions that touch on diabetes issue in SWAMI Xpress.
The most direct one is: "Do you have a history of blood sugar problems: "
A slight cheat that will increase the emphasis on treating diabetes is to check all the boxes on the question:
"Do you have a family history of diabetes:" whether or not it is true.
Generally I recommend being truthful, but you could try checking everything on family history and see how food values changes.
They may not change at all, because you may have already triggered a diabetes diet by how you answered other questions. |

Thanks to all for your suggestions. Jenny I tried to open the link you provided, but was given an error message. Labrat - Under #5 personal history is where the question about having a history of blood sugar is. |
