Hi all,
I just signed up here and I would like to say Ive followed the BTD in the past and found it really worked well for me. Back then I had less health problems than I do now which is why I am back on the B Group diet. I have chronic IBS and although I have managed to lose weight over the past year by following Weight Watchers, my digestive system is really messed up. I have stopped eating wheat for the past week and am eating spelt instead. My question is : does spelt have as much fibre in it as wheat? particularly the wholemeal. I feel I need more fibre in my diet because of the IBS and would like some feedback on this as Ive searched the net and checked labels on spelt ready-made breads but there is no mention of fibre content which I find really strange! another question is plums are highly beneficial for B's so does that mean so are prunes? please say yes ?
thanks in advance

More fiber... They would like us to believe that fiber only comes from whole wheat products, but beans and vegetables are higher in fiber then wheat.

Why not look up the fiber content of some of your foods and compare them?

Prunes are neutral for B's, which means you can eat them, but plums are beneficial.

I think whole spelt berries and whole wheat berries probably are very similar in their fiber content.  This doesn't mean that breads made from either are going to have similar fiber content...  Bread makers do all sorts of things to raise or lower fiber content...

Welcome fellow “B”.  Just start following the diet again and you’ll be feeling better soon.
I googled “spelt fiber content” and the 1st site that popped up was this:  http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=143

Nutritional data for spelt:

Nutritional data for wheat:

It looks like spelt is even higher in fiber than wheat.

You also need enough fat in your diet to lubricate the GI system, and possibly probiotics to get your GI system healthy. Since you're a B, you can have yogurt and kefir, which are easy to obtain.

Thanks all for the great feedback, Im glad I joined this forum now
I woke up to freshly made spelt wholemeal bread using my breadmaker ..its so yummy, and I am already feeling lighter inside because I havent eaten wheat for a week. I think wheat is the culprit here, not dairy as most nutrionists would suggest. This diet does work. thanks again

welcome..

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!
