I was curious if any explorers have tried eating red potatoes? I noticed today that under the hunter it specified red potatoes as a never but not for the other geno types especially explorers meaning they must be nuetral for us but I have such a bad time with regular potatoes I am scared of them. also potatoes absorb alot of pesticides. I've heard potato farmers grow a seperate crop for themselves without all the need for profit!

My son was wondering the same thing.  Book says "Potato, white with skin".  Is this a white flesh or white skin?

This is a serious oversight. Red potatoes would make life so easy for us. Imagine how much better green beans would taste, cooked with red potatoes.

However, I would bet they are no-no's. If not, the explorer diet just got easier.

I don't know the answer to this question specifically, but suspect they're a no-no too!

The typebase says that white/red potatoes are a no-go for all BT's except B and AB - http://www.dadamo.com/typebase4/depictor5.pl?324.  Therefore, the potential majority percentage of the Explorer genotype would be made up of A & O types - which aren't supposed to have them.....

Curious...

Hopefully someone with the answer will chime in soon....

There is not enough room in one book to list every variety of every food. The listings used were among the common varieties from the USDA Nutrient Database, which provides most of the macro and micronutrient data input for the computer program that sorts the foods. Some common sense is best used when using the lists, therefore while something not on the list is technically neutral, common sense will indicate that it should have the same rating as something already listed. In the case of potato, the color of the skin is not the most important factor from a diet standpoint.

What's wrong with regular green beans?  I love 'em with some olive oil and garlic.  Mmmmmmm....

Sweet potato is a very different food than white potatoes. White potatoes have white  flesh, as do red potatoes and blue potatoes, so I assume they have similar nutritional profiles. Golden potatoes are much more like white potatoes than sweet potatoes, so I assume those are in the same category as white potatoes.

In spite of the name, sweet potatoes are a completely different food- a much lower GI and a very different taste. They can't be substituted in many of the same recipes (sweet potato fries work, but using them as a sub for white potatoes in something like shepard's pie would be quite strange indeed! It might be really awful, or it might be surprisingly tasty, but it would be a completely different dish.)

"While there are over 100 varieties of edible potatoes that range in size, shape, color, starch content and flavor, the sweet potato is not one of them. These two root vegetables are in fact from two completely different families. The potato's scientific name, Solanum tuberosum reflects that it belongs to the Solanaceae family whose other members include tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, and tomatillos.

The sweet potato, on the other hand, belongs to the Convolvulaceae plant family and is known by the scientific name of Ipomoea batatas. The well-known flower called "Morning Glory" belongs to the same botanical family as the sweet potato".

"For some individuals, the botanical difference between sweet potato and the more common baking potato might be particularly important. The Solanaceae  family to which common Russet baking potatoes belong is also known as the nightshade family. Nightshade plants contain a variety of substances called alkaloids, and these substances can sometimes provoke allergy-related symptoms. The nightshade alkaloids are completely avoided with a change from baking potatoes to sweet potatoes because sweet potatoes are not part of the nightshade family. Although not clearly demonstrated in research, a switch from potatoes over to sweet potatoes might be especially helpful for individuals with inflammatory joint-related problems like rheumatoid arthritis".
