Neither my mother, nor my uncle (her brother) sweat. They just get really, really hot. They drink plenty but never sweat. I find that a little abnormal and perhaps even harmful. Does anyone know anything about this? They are both a blood type B and obviously it's genetic. |

Definition By Mayo Clinic staff
Anhidrosis is the inability to sweat normally. While this may not sound like a serious condition, anhidrosis can be life-threatening. When you don't perspire, your body can't cool itself, which can lead to overheating and sometimes to heatstroke — a potentially fatal condition.
Anhidrosis — sometimes called hypohidrosis — can be difficult to diagnose. Mild anhidrosis often goes unrecognized, and dozens of factors can cause the condition, including skin trauma and certain diseases and medications.
Treatment of anhidrosis involves addressing the underlying cause, if one can be found. |

Also my mother does not sweat and stink ever and she has never been a cleanliness addict or used dedorant. She was careful not to exert herself in hot weather, to avoid an heat stroke or collapse. She is A + probably nonnie. |

my mom never perspired.. she was healthy as can be, she loved the sun but never backed in it.. mom never smelled of perspiration but used some deodorant but never had to be fanatic.. she dressed light when summer..
I never saw my grandfather nor my uncle come home dripping.. I think they were just sensible.. my uncle was a band musician and they played music in the open for hours. I think he was a tea total -- for every day life they all were.. many people don't sweat.. I never did until until menopause.. It is on awful 'sickness' I don't drink more now then before..
a niece gets soaking under her suit jackets from back to front, she drinks water normally..she exercises and uses every antiperspirant and nothing helps.. she suffers much..
if they are happy leave them all alone.. if they suffer get air-conditioning, and if their health changes have them see a doctor..
Personally I think dry brushing is good to remove skin toxins.. and keep on eye that no one has bathroom accidents .. they are very important to address >> they can be cancer or the onset of,, so no dilly dally for that but otherwise.. never worry.. I envy them .. |

Nonnies don't smell when they sweat, probably has something to do with not having the blood type antigen in the sweat. |

That's interesting, Andrea. I thought it was toxins that made you stink. Maybe not.
Leanne, I didn't used to sweat. I'd get very hot but never break into a sweat. When I was diagnosed with underactive thyroid and started taking a supplement, I started being able to sweat. I know they say men sweat and women glisten, or whatever, but it's not true for me! I can drench my shirt without much effort! It's certainly more comfortable for me to be able to cool off properly now, even if not socially polite. I've learned to dress more lightly during the summer and layer during the winter. Because under the proper circumstances (a crowded room), even if it's cold I will sweat.
So my guess would be thyroid for your family, but I don't know if they have any of the other symptoms. |

Interesting point being that my Aunt was just diagnosed as having her thyroid off. My Mom and my Aunt (who I believe does sweat) have a difficult time growing hair. The guy that my Aunt saw said that it was her thyroid. And then I just remembered that my Mom saw a doc a couple of years back and she had all the symptoms of something thyroid. I'd have to look it up again. Hmmm, thought provoking... |

My mom is a B and she did not sweat until she started the BTD. After she did the diet for 3 months she finally started to sweat. When she eats out too much or doesn't eat enough beneficials, she'll stop sweating again. She can alwyas tell if she stays compliant by her sweat glands. Maybe it's more of a B issue? |

I assume it's tied in with the low body temp that goes along with low thyroid. If you sweat at a certain temperature, it seems reasonable that someone whose temp is 97* would take longer to get to the sweaty point than someone whose temp is nearly 99*. That is, if we all sweat at a particular temperature (which actually I'd be surprised if that was the case), but the question still stands. |

I just called my mom to talk about her sweating issue and I need to correct myself... she said it actually took her two years of doing the BTD to start sweating. Now she sweats even if she cheats a little. She rarely touches the major avoids and keeps up with most superfoods from her Swami. She described how bizarre it was to sweat for the first time and how she felt like she was missing something in her life until she could start to sweat. Ribbit, That's interesting about the low thyroid and sweating. My mom ate tons of wheat and corn and avoids prior to BTD so all those avoids may have been interfering with her thyroids ability to produce enough hormone. |

I should remember to look at that again.. I have low temp even as I am having a hot flash.. I have issues with losing weight.. but I also eat.. but a good reminder.. and yes it's not for me just decided that as I Have enough Hair.. so not for me but yes hormones and hair are on issue for sure -conntected... |

Depends on how long we stay sweaty! I'm going to go with Ribbit and say thyroid sounds likely, but just to share my own experience : I used to use antiperspirant deodorant, and it took a lot for me to work up a sweat. I started working in an uncooled warehouse during the summer of 2008, and it bothered me that I was getting so hot but not sweating. So I switched from antiperspirant to plain deodorant, and I started sweating more all over (not just armpits). |

I don't really sweat at all. Never have. I have to be careful that I don't overheat in the summer. My half brother that is an AB has the opposite problem called Hyperhydrosis. His hands and feet are constantly dripping sweat.
Not sweating or always constantly sweating are not fun at all. If I don't cool myself down in the summer I can get heatstroke, headaches and even rashes. As I continue to follow my GTD hopefully I will start perspiring more with time.
Also being a Nonnie I don't seem to smell like body odor either. Everyone always tells me how good I smell. lol Which is good, since one of my biggest fears is ever smelling bad. |

I don't have to shower every day either. Which is a good thing, because when you've got a bunch of small children, sometimes showers just really happen. Even with a whole lot of hair, it doesn't have to be washed but about every 2-3 days. |

hey all,
I have been thinking about my inability to sweat a lot recently, and remember reading this thread a while ago.
For as long as I remember I haven't been able to sweat. This is good because I don't smell. Sounds gross, but I could weat a pair of socks for a week and it'd be ok! However, I realised that not being able to sweat was a real problem for me, especially being an explorer who can't exercise much to build up a sufficient sweat.
I like winter most because when it's hot outside i feel so enlarged and puffy.. and my head just aches so bad. It's like the heat builds up inside but i can't get rid of it. I also feel like I put on about a stone in weight as my clothes don't fit properly.. generally i get anxious of being exposed to heat
I wondered about how to get myself sweating without exercise... and without needing to nap for 2 hours arter physical exertion...
ENTER: my portable infrared sauna (which arrived in the post a few days ago, christmas came late for me!)
I had my first 15 minute session at about 110 f, the lowest setting. The booth wasn't really very heated before I got in, but I was apprehensive about any side effects as I was alone...
I didn't sweat one bit, just felt some strange vibrations. However, after i showered it felt like id been for a vigorous jog! then... more bedrest and jerky muscles. I also got VERY hungry, more hungry than I get after I have a shower!
yesterday i decided to try again... this time setting it to full power for 10 minutes before getting in. It's bellow freezing here in Devon so it was nice to be so enveloped in heat.
after about 10 minutes I started to sweat... very heavily... initially i thought there was something crawling on my skin, but then i realised that i was dripping the little beaded beauties! oh my, the elation of being able to get rid of something... to be able to sweat it out. I don't think I've ever sweated so much in my life.. and it was only a 20 minute session.
now i'm wondering what will happen if i continue to sweat in this way. |

lola, I don't manage to have lemon on waking everyday, but try to most days. On the days I don't have it I usually eat half a grapefruit in the afternoon on an empty stomach, or I have some lemon juice mixed with apple juice and water sipped throughout the day |
