I live in Cape Town, South Africa and have a husband who is trying to follow the blood type diet and I get to cook all his meals not reading the book all that much, all I have done is try and take the foods that are good and neatrul for him and start cooking him those.....My problem is 1 - I have no idea where to get the healthy, organic foods 2. My husband is type A and he can only eat, chicken, fish and ostrich, but I only have so many ideas on what to cook him.

Is there any other members online that live in SA that give me any tips and ideas....Also my husband complains he is often tired and also often hungry, although he seems to eat quite a bit - YOUR HELP IS NEEDED URGENTLY PLEASE!!!

No, it is not the only food that he can eat, but considering he has eaten SO MUCH MEAT all his life, I try and incorporate some sort of meat substance into his meals (the three I listed) but I am running short of recipes for this, my imagination is a little lacking!  

I am also short of places where to shop, etc!

I use ground chicken, ground turkey, and/or ground ostrich like ground beef (hamburger meat). With the addition of spices I can turn any of the ground meat products into something resembling sausage.

This allows meet fix any recipe calling for ground beef, hamburger, or sausage.


If ostrich is available at reasonable price (for me this is usually not the case), I can use various Ostrich cuts for steaks and roasts.

Hi C-Sharp

Because Ostrich is now so widely exported out of SA, it is very rare to come by, especially the biltong which my husband loves!  So when we do come across it, we are paying R150 per kilo, so it kind of breaks the bank when you buy a couple of packs   

Through Lola I have found a specialist in SA who is a dietician, homeopath, pharmacist, etc who has very good experience in the ER4YBTD and can even do the secretor status test, so I am trying to get him to go there, although sadly, my husband is VERY anti doctors at the moment, so it is slightly difficult

I am trying my best to get the rights foods for him, but even the vegetarian foods they sell here are full of wheat flour, etc.  so I am having great difficulty!!!

I also live in South Africa,Pretoria. I have been on the GenotypeDiet for 2months now. I also really battle to find compliant foods. The best place that I have found is Dischem, the diabetic section for the pasta's and flours that we can use. i recently found a supplier of Agave that is really reasonably priced. I have to eat sheep milk cheese and I also found a supplier for that very recently. We have a BTD representative in South Africa and his name is Johan Klinck, I order my supplements from him directly, his cell no is 082 200 4421.He is very helpful and gave me links to the websites that I could purchase Agave and Cheese.  I was very frustrated and almost gave up on the diet, but with his help I am still being as compliant as possible. I found that alot of the foods  are not very accessible in South Africa. I have to eat Turkey and there just are no Turkey products available. I even approached a butcher to ask whether he would process a whole turkey, so that I can freeze it, but he refused.  I hope you can get hold of Johan, he rally has good suggestions.

I buy a whole turkey and cut it up myself!

I use the rib cage and spine as well as necks and wings to make bone broth......
the thighs I like roasting
and the breast, you can make all possible combinations with that
there s a great pastrami recipe to follow......

Ready-made vegetarian meals are full of wheat and/or corn in the USA as well. But it's easy to find simple, unatultered INGREDIENTS to cook meals from scratch. Maybe you can't find a can of lentil soup without wheat flour, but surely you can find a bag of  dry lentils, a bag of raw onions, and a bottle of olive oil, so you can make your own soup?

It's summer in SA right now, right? So you'll want to do lots of cold salads and fewer hearty soups.

Since you're both As, you don't have to worry about trying to find meals that fit two separate BTs. If you can't find organic food in your area, I'd suggest going for fresh, wholesome, natural foods, preferably locally grown. Since As do well on vegetarian/low meat diets, but your DH is used to eating meat with each meal, maybe try to find meals that emphasize vegetarian foods but still include a small amount of meat. That will lower your meat costs while gently easing your DH into a lower meat diet.
