It's day three on my GTD/SWAMI food plan, and the sugar cravings are so intense especially late afternoon and evenings. I bought potato chips for the kids today and it took steel-iron willpower to control myself from taking some. I've been adding sea salt to my drinking water for past three days as well, thinking it would make a diff in my salt/sugar cravings....but I have yet to find relief. Any ideas? I already had two of my concoctions today and no more cooked quinoa left in the pot....maybe I'll go cook some more...and I'd be having waaayyyyy more servings of fats, carbs, etc. than allowed... |

Letsee, I had some walnuts, a half slice of baked salmon, 3-4 Tablespoons of sesame tahini, is this enough protein? I fret that not...I woulda had 2 eggs somewhere in the day but my personalized plan limits me to 8 eggs a week....then again, I did say i'd disregard serving limits and focus more on diamond/superfoods/geno-harmonics... I think I'll go get two fried eggies now... |

So I whipped up another one of my quinoa/carob/tahini concoctions but I can't eat it cuz my tummy is full. I can't eat when my tummy feels full, and the eggs filled me up... I'lll give the l-glutamine a try... |

I think the reason I feel this way in the late afternoon and eve is because my cortisol levels are low. This is probably also why as exhausted as I am I am unable to fall asleep. It's hard to fall asleep when cortisol is too low and my eve cortisol levels are below range. Now I understand why klonopin works in helping to fall asleep: I believe klonopin increases cortisol levels. So someone who has too low cortisol at night, klonopin gives a boost of cortisol, just enough to skeddadle into dreamland. |

I don't think eggs will fix it. I think you need meat. The stuff in meat (preferably Grass fed) is different then what is in eggs. ( so scientific ) Having small pieces of meat ready would be the best thing. Nutritional break down of beef. http://www.syskos.ca/html/Beef.html Nutritional break down of eggs http://www.aeb.org/LearnMore/NutrientBreakdown.htm I know I sound like a broken record but you actually have gut bacteria that thrive on sugar they cause cravings. So all those supplements are helping. |

OK, so I finally got some grass-fed ground beef. I'll try to find an easy/fast way to prepare a dish with it, as it's quite a hectice 4 days coming up...
How much beef do you think would help me?
I have been advised to consume only grass-fed and this is why it's taken me time to get it. In my neighborhood it's hard to find it, so I needed to find an online resource and have it shipped to me. It arrived last night, so today I can begin.
I'm still sticking to diamonds and superfoods and gh; Unfortunately, when it comes to meats, there's no kosher selection of diamonds, but at least there are a few superfoods
. Lamb is a diamond but I have an intense aversion to its taste. Beef, beef tongue, veal and sweetbreads are what's left for me in terms of superfoods in the meat category. The 'grass-fed, free-roaming' distributor had only beef and chicken in stock. So I'll make do with ground beef for now. |

Thanks for those links!
Which supplements are you talking about? I'm still waiting for NAP to ship the fucus, intrinsa, and licorice-something. In the meantime I'm only taking the lectin-blocker and genoma qe. I've got the potassium here but waiting for the licorice, cuz the potassium is meant to counter some of licorice's BP issues I suppose.

Diffy, I'm impressed by your desire and commitment to keep tweaking and exploring until you get things customized so that it feels right to you. Don't give up just because you aren't there (i.e., in the biochemical balance groove) just yet, these are early days for you and you are asking all the right questions and listening to your body: you are going to get there!
My first question was going to be just what Andrea asked: are you getting enough protein? Try to include quality protein in each meal, if you can, but certainly get enough over the course of the entire day, even if you don't have quite enough in any given meal.
My next thought is: be sure to include fruits and veggies in your diet, so that you are getting good natural sugar, fiber and phytonutrients.
Last but not least, for me, the following foods are great cravings-busters:
SALMON: this tends to steady my system and eliminate my cravings, but it can take up to 24 hours, so...
GRAPEFRUIT: I accidently discovered a while back that, if I get off kilter and have intense carb cravings, if I eat even half of a fresh grapefruit, I'm not kidding, it will IMMEDIATELY stop my cravings in their tracks. Try it!
So, get your protein in, include fruits and veggies, allow yourself SOME grain if you feel it helps you maintain balance and curb that "carb tooth" (brown basmati rice would be my suggestion--Lundberg is a great brand, but make sure to get the BROWN--the white is too starchy, imho), and try the grapefruit "anti-venom" for carb cravings when you are in the thick of one.
You'll get your diet customized, keep at it! |

P.S. If you are having ANY of the following in your diet, they could be triggering your cravings:
- Corn syrup (big time--a little dab'll do ya in terms of triggering MASSIVE carb cravings) - Wheat, in any form - Coffee
Say goodbye to those three. They are not your friends. |

It's good adivce.
Mine is a little different: Kukicha (green tea) with agave. You could go with a better sweetener like stevia, of course. |

Whatareyoutalkinabout! Never in a million years would I go near any of these! They're poison! I've been gluten free for nearly 4-5 years, haven't touched coffee in at least 2-3 years, and corn syrup is not found in the foods I typically consume. |

I do have grapefruit each day (with walnuts, cuz that's a gh conbo), but I think 2 whole grapefruits a day would be way too much fruits for me... I tend to think the sugar craving is related to low insulin and low cortisol, something along those lines... |

Well, it sounds like your diet is very good and I'm sure you'll get 'er tweaked to the point that your cravings are quelled soon. Keep that stick-to-it-ness and you'll be fine and dandy! |

Dr. D. did not suggest I take this particular supplement you linked me to. Hmm... I'm only taking deflect and genoma EQ, and awaiting shipment of intrinsa and licorice liquid and fucus. When the shipment arrives I'll be taking all these mentioned plus potassium citrate.
I used to take supplemental iron and b-complex and calcium/mag/D, but Dr. D. recommended I discontinue using them. I do hope the GTC/gh magic takes over for those supplements.
I miss my iron supplements. I feel it. |
