I have a friend who is
Torso
Ring
Upper
O-negative

The calculator says she is a different genotype depending on her secretor status. Secretor = Hunter, non-Secretor = Explorer (women)

She thinks she does best with a steak and salad dinner.  Strength testing is close - Hunter = 17, Explorer = 11. Taster status - non-taster. (so far nobody has tasted anything with the taster strips I ordered!)

What do you do when you don't know secretor status and are not likely to find out?

On using advanced or intermediate calculator: What does page 56 in the book say?

On the taster strips, you may want to make sure that your source did not include control strips as well as strips with the tasting chemical.  No one should taste control strips only the one PTC or PROP.

Not sure what you mean about page 56 - it just explains the calculators.

I never use the Basic or Intermediate calculators, since I take all measurements before trying to calculate.

Basic calculator gives four genotypes to choose from. Intermediate gives Hunter and Explorer -- the same 2 choices as the Advanced calculator gives on page 291.

The place where I bought the strips sent me a little ziploc with 2 strips in it. It wasn't marked in any way.

Cholesterol is 300, hypothyroid, not too overweight. All loop fingerprints - 9 ulnar, 1 radial. Some thin horizontal white lines - and thin vertical. She does report some gut issues - nothing diagnosed.

I thought I was a Secretor which made me a Hunter.

A second saliva test confirmed me as a Non Secretor which made me an Explorer.

With the data available, your friend cannot be typed.

You can only use the advanced calculator if you know secretor status (at least in this particular case).

Strength testing, does not determine GT. Measurements and Sec. Satatus do. Strength test becomes relevant when you do SWAMI. And I think I am right in saying that this is A RULE, it applies to everyone being typed.

Just 2 strips, or 2 different colour strips?
The kit I got, had several white (control) strips, and several pale yellow (PROP) strips. These(PROP), are the ones  you should give your friends to taste.

I know strength testing does not determine gt status. I just mentioned it hoping someone more experienced might lean toward one or the other - Hunter or Explorer.

I didn't get yellow strips from supertastertest.com -- I got a package with 2 white strips, identified by the salesperson as PROP strips.

Yes... but can't you use the advanced calculator to determine that she is either Hunter or Explorer?  Surely the advanced calculator narrows it down to those two choices.

And so does the INTERMEDIATE calculator. That is why you need the Sec. Status... till then, no GT.

Hmmmm....I stand corrected, but I would query that. My white strips are control strips.

Many places do not have facilities for sec status testing (inlcuding the part of the globe where I live and neighboring countries). I have come across similar cases during genotyping people. What I do in such a situation is to briefly review the medical history of the person (to check if she/he does suffer from periodic/frequent "low grade" infection of the mouth, gut, etc and guessestimate the chances of her/his being a non-secretor). Most often, I temporarily determine the genotype assuming secretor (as most (80% and more) people are secretors and only in some rare cases, I assume them non-secretor. Remember, health problems of the non-secretors usually pose serious challenges of diagnose to many mainstream doctors. Based on this approach, you can determine the person as either a hunter or an explorer. When you mentioned gut problem, I was tempted to type the person as an explorer.

My friend has decided to follow the Explorer diet rather than get secretor status tested.

thanks Kumar,
What is a "low grade infection of the mouth and gut" called in medical terms?

I don't think she has had those  ... she said she is really healthy except for thyroid and cholesterol. She is not overweight either.
