Many people think that the GenoType percentage supplied with the diet print out is the amount that a person 'is' of their GenoType (and the rest being the percentage that a person 'is not' of their GenoType. However this is not accurate.

The following graphic, while not a perfect representation of the SWAMI GenoTyping process, does however illustrate what the percentage is at its most basic.

A 'crisp criteria' is a factor such as blood type, where it may be assumed that almost every person who is in a set of people called 'type B blood' will have blood type B (unless they made a mistake with  their blood typing kit!). One would not expect to see a type O person in a set of type A people.

GenoTypes are mathematically known as 'fuzzy distinctions' meaning that it is natural (and not particularly troubling) for people to have multiple 'memberships' in any number of 'fuzzy sets'. When SWAMI calculates your membership percentage your GenoType, it is telling you at what percentage you cross the threshold into that GenoType. As you can see from the graphic, you will go on to inhabit more and more of the area of the box as more and more calculations are performed.

Here is another take on this concept

Thank you for the graph, Dr. D. That really helps me understand the percentage conundrum much better. Now if you could put it to music, I'd REALLY grok the fullness. But visual is a close second

Well, I managed to take away this one concept.  "Types overlap".

And when it came to the "elbow" kicking in (from the link), I was lost in clusterland.
I do understand that when the elbow kicks in, it lets you know there were no more genotypes to add....but overall, I don't speak or think in clusters or elbows...The words were foreign to my vocabulary when used this way.

The tractor example made sense.  Great example, I thought!

The subject is so abstract for me...  I'm very right brained...Maybe if this were set to music...

or I could mold it out of clay...or paint it.

I can conceptualize something about this...but I could never explain it in a million years!  Never took a course in statistics...and I suspect this might be the missing
link.

wwbailey...I know how you feel!

Okay Dr. D, that's another person suggesting you set this idea to music. You've got your work cut out for you now.

jeanb's thread 'Can someone tell me what I am?' might help illustrate and illuminate this idea further.

That's OK. it is rather dense math. Think of it as how much of the bell shaped curve (you) fit the genotype (the box). Your GenoType percentage is the rate at which you "enter" the box.

What do the percentages between 0% and "THE percentage" and between "THE percentage" and 100% represent? Are they other people's possibilities?

So I'm entering the box at 44%?  So 44% of me is entering the box?

Will the other 56% catch up at some point?  Or it that a mute question?

I hope I am not mistaken: Each Genotype in which I am a 'member' stands by itself and has it's own percentage, independent/regardless of the any other Genotype' percentage in which I am a 'member'. i.e., I may be 42% Gatherer, 38% Hunter, 35% Teacher. (or may I not?)
In my understanding the "100%" has no relevance here.

As I understand it from Dr. D's explanation of the box.  Your characteristics make up the 100% of you.  The percentage shown in SWAMIx indicates how many of your characteristics match the specific Genotype's characteristics.  If the percentage gets below 100 divided by the number of genotypes possible for your blood type, then you would be majority in another genotype...

So 0% to the NUMBER is the percentage of your characteristics that match the Genotype indicated.

The NUMBER to 100% is the percentage of your characteristics that don't match the Genotype indicated.

It doesn't sound feasible that we would all expect to fit inside the box.  If that were the expectation, then ultimately there would be only six types of people.

That is right ABJoe!

42% Explorer means that 42% of your profile exactly match the standard or book or "vanilla" Explorer.  The other 58% is just you being your own unique self.

I considered it simply as a statistic.  I'm 41% Warrior, beating out Teacher and Explorer at lower percentages.  All three adding up to 100%.  But, I see that I'm not exactly correct.  I'm fuzzy on the math.

Most of it doesn't make sense to me, except that the traits are shared between genotypes.  You helped bring it into focus for me Yaeli!  Thanks (though you BT O couldn't be a teacher! rather Explorer).  If the genotypes overlap (e.g. torso longer than legs is a trait shared between Explorer and Teacher) then it makes sense that the percentages will not add up to 100%.  Some traits you have will qualify you for different genotypes.

Also I guess SWAMI must choose your genotype based on the highest percentage genotype you qualify for.

Now I want to run SWAMI and set my genotype to the other two and find out for sure, that will be interesting!

Just tried that and when you choose your own genotype SWAMI Express gets shirty and does not show the percentage!

Dr D does so much already, I hope we don't overload him asking for a music composition too!  For a while I thought he was getting tennis elbow while determining the genotypes so could make no more!    Wish it made sense to me too!
