I love Dr. D and have many of his books. He defiantely is a man ahead of his time, and I respect him immensely. I religiously try to follow the BTD.
As many of you know, I'm blood Type A, 53 years young, feel great, but at the onset of peri-menopause I started to experience massive hair shedding. I posted several times on this site looking for help. . . and yes, I would absolutely love to visit Dr. D's clinic, but because of a divorce and other financial issues, it not in my budget.
Unfortuntely, since my last postings, I have lost even more hair and now you can see through the entire top of my scalp. It is so devastaing as a women (especially a single woman with no spousal support) I love life, people, and want to enjoy it, but is so difficult when the top of a woman's scalp looks like a balding man.
At this point I just want to cry and crawl under a rock. When I see, what I hope is a new MD, Endocrinologist, Derm, etc. they all want to hand me a bottle of Rogaine. What they don't understand is my massive hair shedding is an an underlying problem which needs to be address. Being a very active, health-nut who always trys to eat right and exercise, I don't care to use Rogaine!
My thyroid tests (TSH, T3, T4, etc.) come back within normal ranges. However, I question that as well, because when I looked at the results my TSH goes from 0.86 to 4.36 and varies. These Doctors are idiots! And my ferritin when last tested came back at only 12. So I convinved them to give a perscription for iron and they perscribed "repliva." I hate all those artifical colorings, etc. in there.
Everyone on site is my last hope. I'M JUST TRYING TO FIND A GOOD DOCTOR WHO IS FAMILIAR WITH DR. D'S PROTOCOLS, ETC. IN WISCONSIN. There must be someone here, or even in Illinois. Are there any members who live in Wisconsin or Illinois and have a fabulous Doctor?

Somewhere on this site is a listing of health practitioners. I used to know where, but I’m having trouble finding them on this new website format. Someone who knows will come along soon and point you in the right direction.
Do not give up on the diet. You most likely have some underlying condition that needs to be addressed. Staying on the diet can only help not hurt. |

Thanks Red Liliac: I tried the search on this site for MD's but it turned out to be useless. One person is just a woman who sells Dr. D's supplements in her hair salon. I called two more and inquired about my concern (hair loss, etc.) and they knew absolutely nothing! I'm hoping someone on this site lives in Wisconsin or Illinois and already uses and can recommend their Doctor. I wish I had the money to fly out and see Dr. D'Adamo. It has been my dream for 5 years!!!! Maybe I can have a fundraiser Let's hope someone who lives in the Midwest replies. I'm crossing my fingers! |

Hey there, Rosebud. Most of us live no where near any health professionals who are supportive of Dr. D'Adamo. As you know, stress is a major problem for Type A blood type. It sounds like this is a very stressful time in your life. I would recommend that you take time each day for alternate nostril breathing and/or meditation. In addition, yoga or t'ai chi would be helpful or even a nice walk outside filling yourself with energy from the universe. Read more about stress and blood type here including instructions on how to do alternate nostril breathing: http://www.dadamo.com/knowbase/newbie/9.htm (I do have to scroll to the right of the screen to see this page. You may need to, also) This is a gift you can give yourself, right now. If you do have health insurance, and you feel your thyroid needs support, ask to be referred to an endocrinologist. This is one of the persons best suited to understand the thyroid. Consider ordering the salivary secretor test to find out if you are a secretor or non-secretor. See if your library has Live Right For Your Type, it is an excellent continuation of Eat Right For Your Type. What method did you use to find out your blood type? Keep on, keeping on! |

I wish I could help but I can’t recall the last time I visited a general practitioner. My son hasn’t been to a doctor since high school for required physicals, he graduated in 2002. I seem to go to specialists for everything. I go to the gyno once a year for my annual pap and mammogram. I go to the eye doctor every 3 months for glaucoma. I go to the very expensive holistic dentist in Schaumburg frequently. I go to the chiropractor if I twist my back. I go to the knee doc for that. I had to get travel shots when I went to India and went to a doctor who specialized in overseas travel. When I was a kid, we had a family doctor who knew us, but we seem to live in an age of specialists. There is not one doctor who coordinates all my health issues.
Sorry, I digressed. I hope somebody from Wisconsin comes along and points you to a knowledgeable doctor. You need one person who can look at you as a whole being and get to the root of your issue.
As I was typing this out, I see Lola has come to the rescue. If it is to be found, she can do it. |

also look for an acupuncturist.... when my system was out of balance, a series of parasympathetic massages and acupuncture helped immensely... |

I checked into practitioners with BTD and either they don't do it anymore or they don't return my e-mail. If they didn't do BTD they should take themselves off the list. I wanted to check into SWAMI. I think acupunture would do you great. I had to stop though because of cost. It did great for me!...Aani |

Please don't give up. Stress is a biggy for A's, I know first hand! There are wonderful suggestions here. Meditation, many resources on line to help you, just found one today http://www.peterrussell.com/Meditation/Meditations.php I like "holy basil" I can get it in capsule form at my local HFS. Yoga is great for A's. Even though I'm an A I also like a really good, hard, heart pounding workout to relieve stress- I love my gym, find a good one. One glass of red wine a night, unwind and relax. EFT- great tool http://www.emofree.com/remember that what you focus on is what you bring into your life-law of attraction (still working on this myself) |

Your secretor status can make a big difference in your diet. And type A's have more variations than any other blood type, with the Lewis type to consider. For example, A non-secretors need more protein.
I would try the ND approach, especially if you can find an ND who also practices acupuncture. Many natural protocols address hair loss. I am taking 5 to 8 mg/day of biotin, which Dr. D suggested for hair loss. And make sure you are eating enough efa's.
Take a look at your sleep and rest habits. Are you sleeping well? Are you getting in bed by 10 pm and staying in bed for a good 8 to 10 hours? Fatigue can increase the sense of stress and stress can increase fatigue. It's a vicious loop.
A wonderful herb called Ashwaghanda is excellent for type A's for lowering stress. |

Rosebud, Did we ever talk about whether you have metal fillings in your teeth? I am talking about mercury toxicity. Do you eat lots of canned tuna? It's the only other thing I can think of that can bother your thyroid and cause hairloss....did we ever talk about this on the board. I know we talked about gluten and that wasn't it.... |

Rosebud you sound alot like Rose3408, she has the same problem.
Here are some links to the things we went through with her.
The search would not work for me, not sure why maybe my computer. Would someone post the links to Rose3408 posts? if not I will try again later. |

Well if she comes back, she should also have her dentist check any old root canals. Some did not fill the cavity all the way and pockets of bacteria catch in the hole and play havoc with your body. |

Just for the record, I didn't decide to change my user name, I couldn't remember my password and when I requested it, I was still having trouble trying to log in and it was necessary for set up a new user name.
Sorry for any confusion. I never left; would never do that!
Thanks for the great input! |
