Eating out is such a pain..... It's not that I set myself up for this problem.... my mom is older and eating lunch out is one of her only pleasures. We usually stick to good salads, but salad ( sadly) really isn't on my good list. We eat at the same two places two days a week. At one I can get a meat patty with some broccoli... the other is a Mediterranean restaurant, and I fear that everything has added this or that... any help from people who have to dine out regularly? sighs... particularly Hunters!

I suggest asking at the Mediterrean restaurant about what is added to different dishes. I think they would be glad to explain things. Maybe even through in a kitchen tour showing you how they are preparing food and what they are adding.
My sister recently asked at a Greek restaurant and was surprised that many of the dishes she liked and assumed had complicated ingredients, were actually made with simple things that are permitted on the diet (olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, fresh ground pepper, ...). In fact when she looked at the kitchen, they only had a very limited selection of ingredients, that they used to prepare all the dishes.
I have the same problem with salads when eating out.
I will ask for the caesar salad (romaine lettuce) with no dressing, cheese or croutons. I will get a hamburger or steak usually. I carry EVOO in a vanilla extract bottle in my purse and keep it in the phone pocket so it stays upright. I keep a bit of curry powder and celtic sea salt in my purse too.
If I know the restaurant is somewhere that I really can't eat anything. I will get a salad and I will make up a baggie of in my purse of romaine, escarole, dried cranberries, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, hemp seeds, slivered almonds, plainsville turkey lunch meat and garbanzo beans. I will just empty my baggie on the salad and use my EVOO and eat a nice salad. This way I take a salad into something with diamonds and supers.
I always have dried organic mango slices and a compliant chocolate bar in my purse too.
I know it seems like it defeats the purpose of going out and eating to have to carry this much food, but this way I can stay compliant.
I have found a few places that I can eat and be gluten free and mostly hunter compliant.
Applebee's - grilled chicken oriental salad (no crunchy oriental noodles) Texas Roadhouse Grill - Steak (no seasonings), baked sweet potato/cinnamon Italian Restaurants - two in my area have rice pasta (I called ahead)

SheryBerry, my mom also love to eat at restaurant sundays. Of course, we have a lot of mediterranean rest. here, with good fish, rice, lamb, ribbit, sweet potato or potato (just for me AB potato) For me the big problem is the dessert always is AVOID

so we went today, and I ended up having the grape leaves...
grape leaves are a diamond for me... and the are stuffed with rice... and I guess there is olive oil on them.. anyway, they were delicious..
Thank you, Raquel, Tea Rose and C_Sharp! C_S, I've gotten to know them so well at this restaurant, they'd probably let me in on what they use to season the food..
Tea Rose, I too have brought my own things to add in my purse many a time!! I was doing that at this Mediterranean restaurant for a long time... but I was eating a large salad with olive oil... no diamonds there.... and adding pumpkin seeds... I LOVE the gyros that they put on the salads, but I have quit eating it for two reasons: 1: I think in one of our discussions here someone said that gyros meat is processed and therefore not so desirable
2: Most all of their food is heavy in garlic, and I try to avoid garlic because I don't like the dragon breath ( I know.. it's SO good for you)
If they have kabob at this restaurant, try it. It is very good. It is usually made with ground lamb, onion, salt and pepper. I make it here at home all the time (minus the pepper) and love it.

If we eat garlic in an avoid food we get garlic breath but if we eat it with an HB no garlic breath. As an O if I eat baba ganoush watch out. Same for my Bs and Italian food with tomatoes. We eat garlic daily with our regular HB, neutral foods and have no problem. Another thing I have noticed is that I get BO if I eat mozzarella cheese, butter and some grains. Oh and also bee pollen. Have you actually gone off the vitamins and notice the odor go away? Maybe it is something else you are eating. If it is the vitamins, I wouldn't worry if you are eating fresh vitamin-filled organic food.
Also, what about peppermint tea afterwards. As far as I understand it, it's listed as a neutral in the Encyclopedia.

Parsley and garlic go very well together to help combat the smell. And...I agree...if you are eating compliantly the smell is not so strong from you to other people.

Easy for me as a teacher, I almost always order a grilled salmon and steamed veggies on the side, or an egg white omelet. Finding carb is hard for me out, all I can get is plain brown rice, but most places season their rice up, it is only safe at Chinese places. I tend to keep mini muffins in my bag at all times!

Funny how you can figure out what foods give you a body odor reaction. Eggs give me bad breathe . My 16 year old son always lets me know.

Speaking of odors......I used to not be able to use "health" deodorants. When I started the BTD I was able to, because my body didn't stink anymore. Now I can use natural deo and it works!
I order fish when we eat out. Salmon if possible. Even if the salmon is farm-raised, it won't make me feel bad like another meat might.

When we go out for dinner I usually have the filet or salmon with little to no problem... if there is a sauce, I just ask for it on the side.
A plain hamburger patty is a good safe bet for lunch.. I used to eat that on a large bed of romaine with olive oil... but really for a Hunter that is a lot of neutral food.. I'm going for mostly diamonds.
I'm going to ask them at the Mediterranean cafe if they can leave the spices off of the beef...
I guess really it's the sides that I find difficult for a Hunter in terms of veggies...too

Yep, salmon. Fish. I had cod the other day at a restaurant and still felt lousy. I'm just skeptical as to what any restaurant does to their food. But I get away at some betters than others. I eat Salad and Black Bean soup at Panera's and it doesn't totally do me in. Actually it's not bad at all. But it has pepper in the soup.
SherriBerry, you may want to stay away from Caledonia, WI. If you get within about a mile of here, you'll probably smell garlic from me. I eat it at almost every meal. Except breakfast and snack. My wife says it doesn't bother her and she's used to it. I seem to be like the more I eat it, the more I want it. If I can't taste garlic, I'm a little disappointed. When I use it that is. I crushed on clove up on a salad the other night, and it was too fine that I lost the taste. I kind of felt like, hey, where'd my dinner go?

Normally I'm like that about garlic too. I love olive oil with pressed garlic in it zapped in the microwave (gasp*horrors) for like 10 seconds, with crusty spelt bread dipped in it.

AB, you're too funny! and actually I love the taste of garlic myself.. especially in salad with olive oil!!
As long as I'm not kissing someone ( and that would only be my husband!), I can kinda sorta just ignore it... but I'll tell you, when someone in yoga class has been eating garlic, it permeates all around and makes the air pretty thick!!! But other than that, generally I'm not close enough to other people to care.... When I've eaten garlic or onions, my sweet husband kindly lets me know that I definitely have " the killer breath"... otherwise my breath is baby sweet, according to him... so.. it kind of keeps me away from the stuff.. but I DO love it! I just love him more!!!
But yes, I am afraid I'm a bit phobic about eating out ... usually the nicer the restaurant, the easier it is for me to get them to make things plain... I'd still rather eat at home most of the time...
My boyfriend said the funniest thing about my restaurant ordering the other day. He said I basically try to take everything back to sushi. Imitating me talking to the waiter he joked "So can I have that salmon plain, no sauce, no seasoning, no oil, no butter . .you know, can you not even cook it? juts give it to me raw! I'll wrap it in lettuce." !
Yep, he's used to me ordering everything as basic as possible.
(in case it isn't clear, he was joking, I obviously don't really ask for it raw . . .

I think that's because the age/intelligence level of the employees is generally a little higher at a nicer restaurant. We do still have trouble explaining the "oil" thing to a waiter. Like, "Would you ask and see what kind of oil you use for frying? Like soybean, peanut, canola, etc?" Generally they come back and say, "Vegetable oil." "Well, yes, but which kind of vegetable?" They pull a blank look and say, "Vegetable." But the nicer the restaurant, the easier it seems to be to go find the oil container and look on the side to see what kind of vegetable it is.
One time we were driving through Boondocks, South Georgia and there wasn't a restaurant in sight for miles and miles and miles. Civilization was non-existent. But I had a hungry Nomad on my hands, and, well....those of you who have had hungry Nomads on your hands knows what that means. So we stopped at the first possible place, which was Wendy's. We went through the drive-through and DH ordered a plain hamburger, no bun. The guy on the other end was like, "What was that?" "No bun." "No what? We offer no pickles, to tomato, no mayo, no mustard or no ketchup." "No bun. No bread. I just want a plain hamburger pattie with nothing at all on it. No bun." "No bread?" By this time, as you can imagine, the hungry Nomad was becoming more and more likely to tear down the voice transmitter as the moments passed. "Ahhh! Just give me a plain hamburger then!" "Sure! Just drive around to the window." When he got his hamburger, it was a pattie wrapped up, then a bun wrapped separately. He couldn't understand why I thought it was so funny until after he'd eaten and driven 10 miles, then he started chuckling about it too.

I'm sitting here laughing terribly with my daughter on my lap and she's saying, "what". That was funny!!!!
I had some old oil in the cupboard and it was "vegetable" oil and it said Soybeans and that's it. I was like Hmmmm..... I wonder if it means I can have it? I had to use a tiny bit of it in my pumpkin pie recipe because we used up all the olive oi. I think in the crust.
Syrene, I was watching "Throwdown" with Bobby Flay last night and it was Sushi. And I LOVE sushi. I think that might be my next experimenting. Some kind of compliant Sushi's. I don't even care if the meat is cooked though. But wrapping something up in that seaweed would be really good. With some kind of compliant sauce to dip it in. Using some short grain brown rice! AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! I'm going nuts just thining about it. If I figure anything cool out, I'll let you know. I love raw fish too.
Can we eat our fish that way?

Hey i was in a mexican resto in Las Vegas lately and asked for plain beans and rice...I also wanted a side of the veggies du jour, when I asked about the veggies the waiter said "mixed vegtables" I asked what kind, but he didn't even know what to tell me other than "Mixed Veggies...and he WAS AMERICAN!!!

so last night we had a function to attend... I ate before I left home .. it was like a cocktail buffet, so it was easy for me to not eat...
my husband ate, and whatever he ate blew me out of the bedroom last night.. lol.. the garlic permeated the air... I had to turn over just to get some fresh air... YUCK!!! and he never had a clue... so see? that's why I don't eat the stuff.....
anyway, I was happier eating at home... so today some friends have asked me to go to Atlanta Bread Company for lunch.... here we go again... more drama.. lol....I may just order tea..... but I hate to explain explain explain....
ABNoway, I eat sashimi out all the time, and I love to make compliant sushi at home! I mkae handrolls usually because they are more forgiving if your rice isn't sticky enough. Be sure to ask your fish counter if the seafood you buy is sushi grade! Typically by me, they only have tuna sushi grade.
I use Lundberg's organic brown sweet rice, it is naturally sticky.
