Oh my, my hands hurt. Yes, its arthritis......from terrible abuse as a jewelry teacher...(someone wanted to know the connection? it's the way your fingers are used as tools in fabrication...oh, no, she wanted to know how I got metal poisining....torches, solders, metals, fumes, etc etc,  we're talking about metalsmithing.) With 150 students a day needing my help to set a stone or hold a piece of silver while sawing, my joints just got a beating.....and now I am desperately trying to keep the inflammation down. My doc prescribed Aleve. (Yuk) I have taken it a few times, feels weird in the digestive tract. Would prefer to take only natural supps of course.....am working with the book (Dr. D's book on arthitis) any wisdom welcome....

MSM seems to help lots and also DMSO (if you can find it.. I had to buy a gallon undiluted and pay hazardous cargo shipping fees to get it!).. but that gallon will last me the rest of my life! Don't know if Dr. D has any prohibitions on DMSO, but it does wonders for my knee pain.. (2 dislocations on the right and a chipped patella, and once on the left.. all from modern dance and ballet) The local HFS used to carry a 70% solution, but they stopped.. no one seems to be able to tell me why it's off the shelves.  Some good info if you aren't familiar is here - http://www.dmso.org/articles/information/muir.htm

If I remember right, DMSO is a great thing, but one needs to know how to use it.  It needs a carrier solution if I remember correctly and if not used properly can cause more harm than good. Anyone else remember this, or did I just make it up?  
and have you tried Bromelain on an empty stomach?

thanks, guys....bromelain is quite good, IB....I think the arthritis protocols are working , at least right now.....but once I slip up on the supp regimen they hurt so bad......thanks and any other tales welcome too.

A seaweed called luminaria is good for detoxing heavy metals.  I recently saw it in one of the health library series for type O's also!  And it's a rich source of minerals.

another great remedy is lots of fresh ginger root tea. Slice up a 2" piece of ginger root and simmer in water for 20 minutes, then drink.

thanks, Drea, and, no, wheat and I agree to disagree, Victoria.....however, I have lately eaten potatoes (as few as possible in a tofu scramble) and those are bad for my fingers. Also,
Victoria, I have successfully detoxed a couple yrs ago from heavy metals, but good to know about luminaria. I am thinking that being on the protocols takes a while to really solve the inflammation problem.....and I am happy to wait..if it means not taking aleve ()

I suppose that potatoes could be making the situation worse for you.  

I'm sorry about your pain.  I also work with my hands and have recently had to change some of my systems in my work in order to save my joints.  One joint on my right index finger was becoming enlarged and painful.  Cutting out all avoids has done wonders, but I have also had to lighten up on stressing my joints.  Bromelain is my friend.

Laminara sp. is commonly known as kelp, makes it easier to find! Would you mind linking me to the heavy metal detox properties? I already use kelp and other seaweeds regularly as an 'O'.........

Edit to add: All laminaria are kelp, not all kelp are laminaria. There are 31 species of laminaria, including at least 5 of which are called kombu. The more common kombu is Laminaria japonica.

So it would actually be 'easiest' to look for kombu, since foodstuffs aren't often identified by their official nomenclature. In supplements the nomenclature should be used.

yeah, I looked up D-flame and was impressed. Right now I m using a Jarrow formula that is very good, cox2tamer...but the D-flame has some other properties, so I'll look for it at WF.
It is getting better each day....from a very painful just laying there... to... tender when bumped.

I remember prior to BTD, my wrists were so sore I couldnt lean on them at all. I would involuntarily 'yell' out in pain. My thumb, first finger, and 2nd toe on right foot joints were painful as well. How's that for messed up?

my finger joints can get arthritic from over-use, but I'd say for the most part, they've been really happy lately. Prior to the BTD, my feet always hurt first thing in the a.m., but I've not had that issue for many years.

As Lola says, following the BTD is a natural anti-inflammatory; it just matters how strict we are at any given time.

Just had a same problem on my index finger [eating   too many peppers and aubergines, do it for me]. Apart from bromelin, MSM, and ginger, the biggest help was castor oil packs [from Arthritis book, page 146]. I also added 10 drops of rosmary [aromatherapy] to the castor oil. Today is a third day and it is gone. No pain. and no inflamation. In the process my skin turned smooth and soft.
Worth trying. Good luck.

same problem for me.  My feet and my hands ache when I first get up in the morning.  I keep forgetting about bromelain but I have found boswellia works good and also turmeric.  I switch off.  And no nightshades at all per BTD for A's.  

Quercetin doesn't work.  Not for this type of inflammation.  It works wonders for respiratory problems and alergies but not arthritis.
