I do not know my secretor status, and I have not used SWAMI. I'm interested in both.

Should I purchase the secretor test kit first so that I can then load that info into the SWAMI software, or does the SWAMI software come with that kit or otherwise help you to determine the secretor type?

I don't want to buy more than I need to, or be redundant in my efforts.

thanks!

SWAMI software doesn't come with anything to determine your secretor status.  Secretor status
is a separate kit which you will probably wish to purchase as SWAMI asks you on the intake form
to enter your secretor status.

Secretor status has the potential of being the single most important factor after blood type in determining the best diet for a lot of people. Particularly non-secretors, who comprise a greater than average percentage of folks who find themselves at these crossroads. If you're been having health issues, and feel you have to choose one or the other, I would recommend secretor testing before Swami.  Although getting both is best.

Thanks for the replies, very helpful.

I have been doing more reading on the secretor and the difference it makes in the compatibility of some foods and I completely agree with its importance.

I'm O positive and have a strong suspicion I'm a non-secretor based on my experience/reactions to many of the O foods which secretor status impacts.  For example, I have a reaction to stevia (a general feeling of being 'off'). This is neutral for O secretors but an avoid for O nons.

The secretor test is definitely my next step. For myself and family.

thanks again!

On the other hand, you can run SWAMI  twice, with "secretor" ticked and then with "non-secretor" ticked, and compare the two food lists.  There may not be much difference between the two lists, and it may be easy enough to avoid any foods that are "avoid" on either list. SWAMI can provide a level of personalization that isn't available from a single lab test.

Ideally, you'd get both. But if you can only afford one right now, I'm not sure that the secretor test is the best choice.

That is a very clever idea. I think though that I need to find out for certain which I am because there are some foods I usually eat or want to eat in which the secretor status is actually a make or break factor. Avocado for example: avoid for secretors, beneficial for nons.

What foods are make/break will change with SWAMI. So on SWAMI Avocado could be a beneficial regardless of secretor status (or it could be an avoid regardless of secretor status or it could flip on secretor status. One does not know until they try).

In general, SWAMI considers more factors so any one factor (secretor status for instance) is less important.

This is not to say don't do the secretor test, it is valuable information and does change SWAMI results, sometimes quite significantly.

On Avocados, they tend to come out on the negative side for Os on SWAMI.
