Commercial collagen casing for sausages comes from beef hide between the hair level and the fat level. So in essence this is a beef product. I have been having it twice a week in my house-brand store-bought turkey sausage, and suffered no ill effects that I can see.

But is collagen on par with "gelatin"?
I'd like to understand the action collagen would produce if it had lectins to avoid.

Eew. I've been eating nitrate/hormone/additive-free turkey sticks, and they are also made with a collagen casing. I hope what you describe is not the case. But if it is...I won't be eating those anymore.

For this Type O nonnie, that type of collagen casing/gelatin is definitely what helped my arthritis/joint pain go away.  That's why I DRINK the same stuff everyday in my home made BONE BROTH.  Don't be afraid of eating all parts of the animals okayed for your type (think how all scraps used to be tossed in a huge simmering bowl so the collegen/calcium/magnesium etc would cook out of the bones, gristle, cartilage and into the soup).

I have heard it called "nose to tail" eating.

We can get so used to thinking of vitamins/supplements as things that come in a tablet, that we might overlook a natural organic source of getting the same vitamin/mineral from a part of an animal or plant we might not be used to eating.

Well you know how poor the USA would be as far as matching "like to like", Drea: i.e turkey collagen for turkey products, chicken collagen for chicken products, fish for fish -- that just doesn't happen here too often unless a farm is dedicated to keeping animal sources separate. Like - maybe a Kosher farm?   Thank God its not cloned collagen, and that we can still avoid pork intestines - that's my motto.

I've also been down the road of opening a jar of Gerber Toddler Turkey Stix in the quest for the Holy Grail of compliant "fast food".... but that's just my Explorer nature.....

That's my dillemma, Ms. Dashwood. On my SAMI it states no beef, and no bone broth. I get the occasional calves liver instead... but....that still didn't work last year and became an undigestable mess  . I get "marrow soup" (sans bones!)as neutral, and gelatin as AVOID.

Gelatin comes from bones. Cartiledge...well...I guess its kind of an extension of bone...but collagen is that special thing that I would think people and animals alike lose more of as they age.

So I have no clue as to whether beef collagen will ever affect me, or not, unless I continue to eat it over the years. Because it has no listing in the SWAMI unless it's to be regarded as "neutral" !
