Hi, my SWAMI Express has arrived but, I don't have the taste-tester kit yet nor my finger prints...so is it possible to do the SWAMI without those then add them later?

Have you also ordered the genotyping kit? It has taste strips in it.

For fingerprints you don't need the kit, you can use a magnifying glass, one with light would be the best.

I'm also waiting for the GenoTyping kit. It should be getting sent out in the next day or so. I'm not going to do anything with the SWAMI Xpress until it comes.

Hi, no I didn't order that because I've done all the measurements myself - apart from those 2 and someone kindly posted a link of where to get the taster in the UK and I was going to get some ink for the fingerprints (I didn't know that I could just use a magnifying glass I could use that if so, I do have one  ).

Would you recommend that I order the genotype kit though?

Also, is it possible to add things to the SWAMI later, I thought I read that somewhere?

If you can get taster strips and you already have the SWAMI Express, you don't really need the genotyping kit, provided that you know which fingerprint pattern is which:

good luck

You can start entering data now and enter the rest when you have it. Taster status is not required but you will not be able to calculate a diet plan until you enter your fingerprint patterns.

You can always add more data later when you find it out. There are people who's fingerprints are unreadable, and after 6 months on the diet, their fingers heal enough that they can add the fingerprint data.

Some fields are "time locked". They do that to prevent people from using the SWAMI  software for more than one family member. However, any time-locked field can be fairly easily unlocked by calling or emailing customer service. They can do this no matter how long you've had SWAMI.

Fingerprints are not time locked.

If a finger is missing or otherwise unreadable, composite can be used.

Thanks for all your replies

I've just ordered the Genotype kit, at least it has everything in there, by the time I'd have bought the stuff for the fingerprints and taste tester it would amount to nearly as much.

Good morning, Cat2.  How are you coming with your SWAMI entries?  Have you yet started or are you still waiting on the Geno Kit?  I could not wait if it were me.

Hello Enobattar   well...I've been going over my measurements to make sure they're as correct as I initially measured myself - in front of a mirror   then got my hubby to measure me but there were differences, so I've been double-checking those.  Still, I came out as gatherer which I really don't think fits me at all, nothing on the strength meter corresponds (although I've not done the taste and finger print tests yet)  but one of the main things about the weight, I'm not that shape and I've never put weight on easily and some of the gatherer foodstuffs don't seem to fit me either, whereas the BTD diet makes sense .   However, I double-checked which diet on the questionnaire would suit me best and I think the BTD will be best for me anyway, .  Does the SWAMI combine the 2 or is it as I suspect - more individual than that?  I can't wait to get started though

SWAMI Xpress combines BTD and GTD based on many more parameters than either book diet takes into account - so it is more individualized specifically for you than any other diet...

I like measuring fingers on the palm side - it is easier for me to get an accurate measurement.

Cat2, I went through the same ordeal.  Finally I got things straightened out when the GenoType packet came.  I was having the most trouble confirming which was longer, my upper or lower leg.  The kit's instructions were the clearest I'd come across.  Definately work with your SWAMI.  You always have the BTD to fall back on when in doubt.  Sooner or later you'll get it nailed.

It's very common to measure and remeasure . . and remeasure.

Thank you for the links Victoria, I've just re-measured again   still gatherer

I think flat is easier but they do tend to come out a bit longer doing it that way - but still all in proportion, i.e. they're all a bit longer so it doesn't matter.

Yes! mine are very close and I had trouble locating the exact areas for the top parts of the lower and upper legs, but I keep getting similar results so I think I've got it - near as dammit anyway

Probably a daft question but, if I use the SWAMI on one computer will I be able to access it using a different computer?  the reason I ask is, I'm switching from PC to Apple Mac at the moment and not sure how it works.  So if I were to do the SWAMI on my PC will I be able to access it using the Mac

SWAMI is a web based program. No problem using it from other computers.

In my office I have a Ma, a Windows PC, A linux machine and an iPad on my desk.  I have no problems utilizing SWAMI on all of these machines or using it elsewhere.

So you will be able to use it on a PC or Mac.

You do have to have an internet connection for SWAMI to work.

Great stuff!! I've been backing everything up on my new Mac this morning to the time capsule and setting it up etc,   However, I will probably make a start later today on my SWAMI using my PC, then if I do decide to get rid of my PC altogether because it's getting a bit shabby now, it's good to know I can access it on my Mac, thanks again

I've just thought - do you mean a scanner?  I don't think there is any glass on my printer, it's  a good printer but you just put your paper in, connect it to your puter etc, and press 'print'.  I think a printer/scanner would work well though.  I do have a scanner somewhere though, probably in a box in the garage.

You probably don't need any more info about fingerprints, but anyway in case someone else is in doubt, I found that face makeup of the compressed powder type made it easier to read them visually.

Well I've made a start on my SWAMI   and my genotyping kit arrived yesterday, so I'm going to go over everything again and do my fingerprints and taste-testing today

Thanks Jenny, I'll look at that method when I'm double-checking
