After all of my searching on the subject of diarrhea (still have had it nine days now), Dr. D.'s Gastro-D Complex and Polyflora arrived today, along with Proberry Caps and Genoma Security... already taking ARA6.

Currently I'm eating only bananas, plain brown rice, plain applesauce (homemade), and a flatbread made out of quinoa flour, sea salt and water (again, homemade).

Currently I've been taking daily:

Synergist
Activist
Catalyst for Teachers
Phytocal, just 1 per day... all the above with meals
Ara 6, 1 t. 2 x per day... when 1st waking along with lemon water and w/water only before bed

Then when the diarrhea started I added to the above:

Polyvite, 2, 2 x per day and upped the Phytocal to 2, 2 x per day... again w/meals

Have been on that schedule ever since, and now I got this new order of supplements that I want to have on hand for only when I get sick.

After reading Sooooooo much about diarrhea on this support forum, I'm ready to add Gastro-D Complex and Polyflora and also consider not eating at all for 24 hours, just drinking.

1.  But am I taking too much stuff?
2.  Should I fast or should I continue eating light portions of the BRAT diet (banana, rice, applesauce, and toast)?
3.  Since I'm eating so frequently (because the portions are so small I get so hungry), when can/should I fit in the Polyflora?  The bottle says 2, 2x daily away from food.  I thought to just do the Polyflora before breakfast and before bedtime but that is when I take the ARA 6.    Would it hurt to take these 2 at/near the same time?
4.  I guess I can add the Gastro-D Complex w/my meals?
5.  Oh, and I have Deflect also.  Concerning my scenario, do you think that is necessary because, again, it is to be taken between meals and, that's almost impossible because I'm eating every waking hour, almost.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Just a suggestion...Try a day or two with just food and take no supplements and see how you feel.  See if the diarrhea resolves or at least improves.

Your body might be in overdrive and trying too hard to cleanse.  All of these supplements might just
be way more than you need.  Wouldn't be able to know until you see how you do without taking any.

Then, if trying to add anything back, I'd suggest you take the lowest dose possible and only try one
new supplement at a time.  Gulping a lot of pills sometimes is overkill.  The diet is healing and you
might want to see how you feel by allowing your body to extract nutrients only from foods and not pills.

Hope you feel better!

Thanks, Chloe.  There's truth in what you say, but, I've got to admit to you that I'm afraid to try that.  Afraid that if I do I'll have wasted another day in trying to get better.  But I am a person who easily can 'over kill' anything I do.  Perhaps I will try what you say.

I've been a follower of this way since 1996 or 1997, so am no newbie.  I've been 95% or better compliant since March of this year.  I just am so perplexed as to why or how I got this virus.  Never had a stomach virus before that didn't last but a day or two and cause vomiting.  This is new and strange to me.  The burning sensation in my stomach after eating and now nine days of diarrhea?!  I am thankful the burning sensation appears to have gone.

Don't know how much longer I can eat this BRAT diet only.  I'm afraid tomorrow I'm going to go back to eating more normally.  If I'm going to have diarrhea, I'd might as well eat to my satisfaction because it has not improved on the BRAT diet.  I know that is foolish to say but it suggests how discouraged I have become.  Patience, patience, patience!  Right?

I'm starting to remember there was this gut bug going around this summer that would go on for
a long while, stop, and return.  People were getting relapses and it seemed like an endless bug.
Nine days of diarrhea does seem very long...Do you feel ill in any way?

If the BRAT diet didn't work,  I'm wondering about bananas.  Generally a type A toxin.  Is it listed
on your SWAMI as a toxin?  If so, maybe eliminate bananas....might not be a food you can tolerate.  And also thinking that if the body is trying to eliminate a bug, is it so terrible that
it keeps flushing itself?

Did you try yogurt?  THE most constipating food for me is white rice.

If you're truly afraid to give up your supplements, maybe just stick with Intrinsa and Gastro D.
If it were me, I'd try two pills of each before every meal and see if that makes a difference.

Polyflora I usually take alone or open and add to something cultured....Now that's a thought....
how about making some fermented vegetables.....grated carrots, garlic/ginger....You just put
everything in a bowl, sprinkle with about a tsp or two of sea salt and squish everything with your
hands until these plants give off liquid....and then you pack everything tightly into a jar you can
cover either with a screw on lid or cheesecloth.   You want to make sure the liquid line is above
the solids.  Leave on counter for 3-4 days and then refrigerate.  I'm thinking a lot of natural good
bacteria might help you heal your gut.

Thinking good thoughts for you to get well  {{{{{hugs}}}}}

Thanks for the suggestion, Lola.... and Chloe for your thoughts and suggestions. (No, Chloe.  Bananas are a Neutral for me.)

Since my doctor prescribed 6 days on Immuplex (S.P.), 3 per day; and I noticed the burning in my stomach stopped after taking it once or twice, and, after pondering Chloe's suggestions, I went back to eating my SWAMI w/plans to only take 1 Immuplex and 1 Deflect w/ea. meal; then also w/breakfast and supper add 2 Gastro-D Complex caps.  After six days I am to start (per my doctor) six days of the Cholacol II (S.P.) to "build me back up" according to Doc.  Again, each time I take one I will w/it take a Deflect.  By that time I ought to be eating normally and taking my Dr. D. regimen again.  We can only hope....

This morning my husband took me for an early walk on our local mountain.  We strolled along with our dog and walked just around a mile.  He was concerned about me but I told him I had to get out of this house.  It was soooo nice.  No episodes while I was gone.  I did go prepared with a wad of toilet paper in my back pocket.

Now I will consider Lola's suggestion of just one a day for the others.  Might wait until tomorrow and see how this currant plan of action is working.

Thank you for the support!

Immuplex is a good product for helping rebalance the gut flora...  We keep it around as DD is still subject to some disturbances, although she usually only needs it for a day or two at a time since we can catch it right away...

Interesting and supportive.  Thanks!  I know the S.P. products have worked for me many times over in the past 3-4 years I was using them.  But they undoubtedly have left their mark on/in me with the pig, cow, dairy ingredients.  So glad to now have Dr. D's. regimen!  And also the Deflect for when I need to follow my own Doc's advice.

My doctor ordered me this
http://www.king-pharma.com/product.aspx?p_id=7315
against dehydration of continuous diarrhea - it returns to the body some vital salts which may have been lost with the lost liquids. It is not BTD compliant, but I keep it at home for rescue if needed.

Polyflora seems a must, but I'd pass the bananas and flatbread.

Looking forward for the improvement of your condition!

One more...

Do you keep cranberry juice / cherry juice (concentrates)? I don't know your swami ratings - in the genotype book they are Teacher's superfoods, while apples are black dot...

That's it, get well soon

Hope you're doing better today but wanted to share this product I often use for gastric distress.
Learned about it years ago from a holistic MD.

Seacure.  Pre-digested white fish protein. Helped me with leaky gut and helped my son with
severe IBS.  In addition I was also taking Intrinsa and Gastro D for many weeks,....but as I weaned off, continued with Seacure.

Cherry concentrate is in Proberry liquid.  Apples are a SWAMI beneficial for me.  When I was at the
clinic the other day, on a big TV screen in the shift teaching area, there was a loop of information running on the a screen.  I learned that the chances of two people having the same SWAMI is one in 12 million!    Kind of brings home the message why everyone really needs their own very personalized diet.

Yes, I do...both of those.  They are diamonds for me.  Are you saying you think they are good for diarrhea?

I must tell all that today I'm doing much better, so far.....  Eating lightly but normally and really appreciating my body not rebelling.  Hopefully this will continue.

Typebase presently lists apples as neutral for nonnies....

My type A nonnie husband gets apples as a beneficial...so many variables when the diet is highly personalized.    I often forget that many people follow the basic BTD....which is what I did
for almost 20 years.

Thanks for the SeaCure info.

Yes, just as Yaeli mentioned apples being an Avoid for A nonnies in one of Dr. D's. books, on my Swami they are beneficial.  Go figure!

No, I was thinking about the morning after, as they are anti-inflammatory and maybe good against some bacteria (?  )

Fourth of 6 days on Immuplex taken w/Deflect.  Slept 7 hours without rising last night.  Unheard of!

Still have the diarrhea but less often and less severe.  Don't expect it to go away until around the 6th and final day of Doc's '1st round' of treatment.  Oh, also decided to take 2 Gastro-D Complex twice a day.  That is it, up until today.  Eating my normal SWAMI diet but in smaller portions.

If I do not relapse, tomorrow I wll begin as Chloe and Lola suggested; adding 1 supplement per day at a dose of just 1 each time taken.  My plan will be to increase each day until back up to speed.
