Well Im finally here to testify about my abstinence from sugar and all things gluten and all things junk food.  

I combined a 12 step program (OA), for my compulsive overeating, along with The Diet Cure Book (by Julia Ross) recommendations for amino acid supplementation during junk and diet withdrawal, along with my Swami recommendations and over these last 60 days have become free.  I stopped eating the junk and sugar and all on May 19th and also have slowly eliminated all black dots except for one.  

Went through a couple of odd experiences health wise... GERD and a systemic fungal infection and my body is still adjusting as it lets go of the stored fat in my cells but overall my mental clarity is really good and I've gone through some EXTREMELY Stressful situations without getting cravings or wanting to 'chew' my way through it.

FLAT OUT - I don't have cravings anymore.  I have slowly cut back on the amino acid supplements to where I am down to only 1-500mg Tyrosine, 1-500mg Glutamine and 1-500mg DL-Phenylalanine, in the morning and once in the afternoon.  I do take 1000mg Tryptophan at night and this really seems to help my brain deficiencies.  Slowly I will cut out the down the daily aminios as my brain begins to get what I need from my food, but I don't think I will cut out the Tryptophan as I have discovered that I most likely have been deficient all my life due to coming from a long family line of addicts of various drugs, food and alcohol.  

The only problem I have is that my Swami only recommends meat 3 times a week and I really seem to thrive on more servings than that!  I am adding more and more fish as I get to have fish 7 times a week.  Poultry is also an issue because I end up eating more than the recommended 3 servings a week.

I am working on more and more vegies in my diet and have gotten a Bullet to make green smoothies with and I do have a juicer that we use on a regular basis.

I do love to make up a batch of greens to have on hand or a batch of Okra with onions ready to eat with whatever meat I'm having.  I also discovered a wonderful dish... stir frying green beans, onions and red peppers in olive oil!  YUM!

But I'm not perfect... esp. when it comes to red meat!!!  

I woke up this morning with a little bit of stuffed nose and throat lump again and I had a bit of acid indigestion last night and I'm pretty darn sure it was from eating a larger than moderate portion of dark turkey meat for dinner.    I've learned that I should not eat large portions of fatty meats and this was another reminder!  Does anyone else go through this with the more 'fatty meats?'

So it's all a learning tweaking experience on the Swami and my body.  But I'm overjoyed about being abstinent and finding out just how valuable Swami is and how IT WORKS if you work it!  ha ha.. just like the 12-step program says.  

Swami's recommendations for portions sizes are not always easy to follow and we are going out on the road for a 40 day tour starting July 31st so I'm going to be working at doing the best I can out there.  I can't take food for a month but I can prepare to take some things initially and then re-stock as we come to areas where there are Whole Foods Stores, etc.  

Thanks Dr. D for your work - you have another person here who has climbed out of the black hole of 45 years of dieting, food addiction, self hatred, struggle, strife, guilt, shame and all of that and has found healing.  

And thanks to all my Forum friends.. for the continued interaction on health issues as we all climb the ladder to discovering the best way we can all feel good and live a full life.

Wow- sounds like you're doing great!

I do wonder sometimes about SWAMI portions- I usually find that I need more food than SWAMI suggests for me. I've never had a problem with the fatty meats either; I find them very satisfying  and easy on my system.

Then again, I still have 25 pounds to lose and I'm sure that more careful attention to portion sizes would help with that.

That's a wonderful testament BluesSinger.  While you are on tour, I think my best advice would be to just try the best you can to avoid the avoids and worry less about portion sizes etc.  
I struggle with sweets and portion sizes.  It's a constant battle.  I really should get SWAMI.

That's real happy news.  Congratulations!  

Meat is not something I eat late in the evening because it tends to sit in my stomach.  So I eat meat early in the day and my fish meal is the last meal.  Works for me.
