In my SWAMI it asks for ethnicity - based on the choices listed, I am uncertian as what would be best to list. From my father I have Scottish and Irish mostly, from my mother I have North American Indian (Cree), Scottish and French, those of course being the ones we know for sure. Any suggestions under what category I would list myself as, thank you for any help.

That appears to include all on one side and some on the other.

I would go with the majority of your heritage and ignore the contributions of other parts.

If you are concerned about it, I would get the haplogroup data for both sides, which will diminish the effect of the ethnicity entry in SWAMI.

I have a similar situation.
When I put southern European , my swami chooses teacher. When I put western European, my swami chooses explorer!
I have mostly French on both sides, including Basque. I have Irish and Scottish on both sides. I have Italian, Jewish and a little Greek on one side and Native American(Commanche)on the other.
I am literally split between west and south.
I see that C-sharp said Irish were considered northern, on a post some time back Ireland was included with France as a western Euro nation...
When I look at the map, I consider the Scandinavian countries northern and UK/Ireland and France as western...those three are all celtic with France having Latin added to them.....so....
I will be getting my haplo groups done this year and then let swami decide from that.

This really intrigues me for when I eventually get ´round to doing SWAMI ...although I am Irish on both sides as far back as forever..I do wonder how far back does "ethinicy" apply??? and how much does it matter with most people being a mixture of several ethnicies if blood type is more important?

In Ireland there´s a wide variation of skin and eye colour ...most are fair-skinned with black/brown hair...there aren´t that many red-haired despite stereotyping!

All my mother´s side are all quite olive-skinned with black hair...looking more southern European...I´m sure we have some Portuguese or Spanish  genes in there somewhere! I have brown eyes & hair and ivory skin...

Thank you all for your responses. My blood type is A+. I would at some point like to spend the money and have it done, as it is really interesting and informative but I am not in a position to do so yet, plus it would take quite awhile to get the results. I would really like to get on with my GenoType reccomendations prior to that, I listed originally Native American as it was the only option (I understood) that was applicable to me, and yes, I was given Teacher, but a few of us are unsure whether that is correct, and now seeing the post that states ethnicity can change GenoType makes me nervous I have not entered this info correctly and will heed a different result, which is fine but I just want to enter what I should be. So based on my blood type and ethnic backgrounds I listed above the concesus to enter for ethnic back ground would be?...

Hi again - so when I went to the Wikipedia map, it shows that Ireland, Scotland and France are all listed within Western Europe, which covers all but for the Native American blood line of my mother hers being (Scottish, French and Native). I also have an epicanthic eye fold, however, this trait I inherited from my mother. So, would a safe bet be to list as Western Europe, again thank you all for sharing your insight with me.

I vote yes on western for you. My Mom's mother's side also have the eye fold..they are mostly French with various Mediterranean in the mix.
My DH is mostly Irish with some French Canadian and Sioux Native. His Dad's side also has the eyefold.

You said exactly what I learned/observed on our last trip to Ireland!
There were few redheads, mostly dark hair and lovely blue/ silvery grey/ or green eyes. (Alot of green eyes in France)
We noticed the Gaelic speaking, western areas such as Galway to have many dark haired, brown eyed and olive skinned people. One of the local historians there told us that "No, the Spanish Armada did not cause the dark coloring...or what many say are 'black Irish' as #1 ..there really weren't that many men left alive to spread the genes and several Spaniards have light hair and skin anyway!  
He suggested the original Celtic people were of this coloring and had been pushed back and isolated to the west from the English and others trying to conquer the island.
The one truth I know is that every Irish person, regardless of age, gender or location (I've been lucky to visit most of Ireland)whom I spoke with, were the kindest, most generous, lively, most helpful and polite people in the world!

Myself, I have med-dark brown hair, brown eyes, fair in the winter, quite dark in the summer, I often get asked if I am either Italian or Spanish, no one I've met yet can quite peg the combination, though my guess is to meet some folks on here in person they would be more apt to do so.

I made the change and noted a few dietary changes, my Teacher status remained though from 42% to 39% now, saddened to see yogurt once again off the list, but butter is a neutral and that makes me quite happy!

There are many Irish people with your coloring.

You are much like me, then. Are either of your parents an O blood type?

My Mom is A+ (black hair, brown eyes, olive skin) and my Dad is 0-.(brown hair, green eyes, medium skin)
People always assume my Mom is Italian or Mexican. Her whole French side looks that way.
I had black hair until about age 7, dark brown after. My eyes used to be very dark brown and are rootbeer color now. My skin is medium/light olive.

The last time I ran my swami it changed my 41% teacher to 39% but I still get yogurt!

Especially if there is substantial change in one's program depending upon the labeling of one's ethnicity, it stands to reason that the programmer himself (Peter D'Adamo), rather than the infamous wikipedia, should be the source for one's labeling decisions. If SWAMI is categorizing countries / regions a certain way, this way should be mapped within that question's instructions, so as to prevent this sort of confusion, no?

I absolutely agree with the above post, it would indeed be very helpful and perhaps as you suggested, much more accurate, or even a full (?) list of ethnicities one could click on as each pertained to them, I know Native Americans are much more suseptible to diabetes for example and I feel some concern that, that aspect of myself is now ( as I am considered Western European) being left out of the calculations, seeing as it is very much a part of my maternal side. Perhaps Dr. D'Adamo could shed a little more light on this for those of us trying to understand better?

Sorry, I do not know my parents blood types, though my father did suffer (as did all the men in his family) from heart attacks, he dies of his 3rd one at age 50. My mother suffered a mild stroke in her early 60's. Seeing as my dad had 6 of us girls, no boys, I often wondered if it was "Mother Nature's" way of weeding out the heart disease so prone to the males in his family...

Your blood type carries lots of weight as it pertains to disease susceptibility-- play with the settings and see what fits best for your ethnicity.

Best thing to do is your haplogroup.

My DH and I were treated so well all over the country and found every Irish person we encountered to be very friendly! We are planning our third trip over there to celebrate our 40th wedding anniv. next year! We will have 39yrs. this March.
