My B- nonnie son (15, almost 16) was having horrible brain fog, depression and other debilitating (to him) symptoms a couple months ago. I ordered him the B basic pack and he went cold turkey on chicken, wheat and corn. With a few other tweaks (like finding out he's a nonnie), he has been extremely compliant. With help from some wonderful B's on the Facebook page, we have finally made it to a better place.
My question is this, I am almost positive he's an Explorer (I'm a O+ nonnie, Explorer) and wonder if the SWAMI is something I should get for him. When I'd talked to someone while ordering the B pack, they said not to worry about SWAMI right now, but I am feeling (intuition, I guess) that he would benefit from a customized diet. I know he would like it as well.
Is the SWAMI ok for teenagers to use or should I wait until he's older?

Hi as a B- ( sec) and a mum of a teen I would like to share some thought. Personally I think swami is far better than the regular GTD I am not certain I would use the money on a 15 year old boy since they grow so fast My own daughter has changed GTD 3 x since she was 15 so she is like her mum a bit of a chameleon I will get her a swami as soon as my economy is better but right now I keep her on the basic O diet. BTD is also very good imo.
I suffer from severe brainfog and slight depression when I eat too much grains( also neutrals), sugar and omega 6 rich poly unsaturated food. To funktion well I need butter lots of it - veggies, some fruit and really good protein not only weird types but also the neutral types as well as good fish- especially omega3 rich ones.
Exercise -especially hiking is very good for my mood. enough sleep and daydreaming
So I would keep him on the nonnie B diet a bit longer remember B - needs more protein and less grains than +

With SWAMI Xpress if the teenager's measurements change you can reenter any changed data and rerun the software to adjust the diet.
I certainly think SWAMI is an option for a 15 year old. Although I would usually keep a 15 year old on the blood type diet rather than use the GenoType diet.
Would his genotype change as his body heals? He has been sensitive to a lot of things since childhood (chemical, environmental, etc) which is why I think he's an Explorer. Plus, it has taken him a VERY long time to get any breakthrough while on the BTD. It is just now, well over 2 months after he started, that he finally feels a little better.
I was thinking that if I got him on SWAMI, he would be eating exactly what he should be without any guesswork. BUT, if it's better to wait, then wait I will.
Not related to SWAMI, but is there somewhere I can go and read blood test results? My son had a wellness check last month and he told his doctor the symptoms he'd been having. She told him (nicely) that he was perfectly healthy and any problems he was experiencing were in his head. To make sure there was nothing wrong, she ran a slew of blood tests on him. I have the results, but no explanation. :/

IF money is not an issue I think I would get him the swami... I dont know if his genotype will change... but Emmas sure do However from my own exprerince with Swami my overall diet seems more or less the same- I am still on Henriette diet it is just the label that changes and a few foods
I would also conside giving him lots probitioc and fermented B food Problems in the gut is very strongly connected with problems in the mind. That is why so many has good results with GAPS diet I have used it wilg my swami with really good results I just substituted avoids suggestions with ok

Anyway, thanks again!
Some have put the result on a post asking for opinions. You could also take each test a google. Maybe someone with knowledge will offer to help after reading this thread.
Maybe a thread on " help me understand these results, please" Always remember no one here can replace your doctor.
From what I understand kimchi is an excellent probiotic! My husband is Korean, so there is usually kimchi in the fridge. Unfortunately, unless we're in Korea or at a Korean restaurant my son doesn't want to eat it. He flew to Los Angeles' Korean Festival last week with his dad and was worried about his diet. I told him not to worry but eat lots of kimchi, veggies and fish! Of course beef, too, but sometimes it's marinated in soy sauce. He came back without any problems. I completely attribute it to the kimchi.
Regarding the SWAMI, I'll think about it some more. It was in my shopping cart before I posted, but I'll wait a little longer before buying it. That is, unless someone feels it's absolutely necessary and explains why.
I respect my son's pediatrician (the best he's ever had), but we differ on many issues. If I were to tell her that my son was on the BTD, she would shake her head at avoiding the big avoids for B's (chicken, corn and wheat) but be okay with it only because dairy and other items were on it. Otherwise, she'd probably report me to the local CPS!
Besides, she ordered the tests but never called me about the results. I was able to get the results from my son's online account at the dr's office.

They use it on children at the Center of Excellence, so I think it is fine. Just adjust as you go along.

2 months for a natural healing sequence is not a long time...
It took me 3 weeks just to get rid of the constant headache when I stopped ingesting corn... This was just to reduce the circulating toxin levels. I am still, after more than 6 years, still removing "junk" and healing - although I was somewhat older than your son when I started - and had probably eaten more avoid on a daily basis than he has. Still, healing takes time - far more than is expected when someone pushes a pill to cover up symptoms...

I was just pointing out the any interpreting of the test result by a forum member is their interpretation and not that of a doc's. It seems there are many disagreements when it come to what normal, low and high are on some of these test. I feel a swami would be great for a teenager by the way ,maybe not so much for young children. Although I not sure why even then.

I personally wouldn't get a SWAMI for a child who wasn't done growing yet. Their actual genotype/dietary needs shouldn't change over time, but their body measurements may not always match up to their "genetic genotype" at various stages of growth. Sometimes one body part has a growth spurt before the rest of the body catches up. My oldest daughter stopped growing at age 16, and my younger is probably done growing as well (a few more months and we'll know for sure.) She's certainly within an inch of her final height, and I don't think the ratios are going to change at this point. I wouldn't hesitate to get a SWAMI for her if I could afford it and if I felt she'd truly follow it.
I really feel that kids should stick to BTD until they're done growing, unless there are specific reasons not to. For example, there's a member who put her child on the GTD because he was allergic to many of the beneficial foods for his blood type. He did well on the Explorer Diet. In general, though, I think that Explorers should get a SWAMI rather than use the diet from the book, and also that nonnies should get SWAMI rather than following the GTD from the book; and BTD is usually a better choice for people in both categories if SWAMI isn't an option. It's just my recommendation based on what others have shared on this forum; both Explorers and nonnies tend to have SWAMIs that vary widely from the diets in the GTD book.
SWAMI can be adjusted as he grows, so you can keep on changing the body measurements every few months as needed. There's somebody on here who got a SWAMI for a 4 or 5 year old, because she had numerous health issues and BTD alone wasn't enough. She's about 6 now and doing great.
If you're going to buy him a SWAMI at some point in his life, then there's probably no reason not to get one now. It will grow with him, so you won't need to buy another one when he's older. It might even save you money if the price of SWAMI goes up in the future.
I wouldn't assume that SWAMI is going to work better or faster than BTD. Taking 2 months to feel better, when there have been chronic, long-term problems, seems pretty normal to me. There also may be some confusion if the SWAMI values change every few months as he grows and you re-enter the measurements. It just might be simpler to stick with BTD and get the SWAMI once, when he's done growing.

To clarify, he's not feeling great - just better than before. It was a month and a half of him questioning whether giving up his favorite foods was worth it. After the little breakthrough (although he is quick to tell me he still has brain fog), he realizes he did do the right thing in giving them up. For me, as an O, I detoxed pretty quickly. A week or two after giving up all avoids (and eating mostly beneficials), I was sick for two days flat on my back in bed and then was over it. By comparison, the struggles and agony of the two months for my son seemed like an eternity. Especially when he was questioning it the whole time.
He hasn't grown much this summer, but I'll wait a little longer to see if there are any more growth spurts before investing. If he takes after his dad's side, he's probably through. If he takes after mine, he has a little more to go. The money I would have spent on it instead went toward getting a beneficial pack (Harmonia, Proberry, etc.) Whatever his Genotype, these are good for him, and me, so I thought it was a good investment.
Anyway, I appreciate all the comments. They have been very informative. Thanks.

Yes! I bought the basic pack for B's along with a bottle of Nitricycle way back in the beginning of the diet for him. It was my hope it would help speed up the detox and help him get through it better. He is very good about taking the Nitricycle and Polyflora especially.
Today I purchased the healthy blends pack for O (the tea is for me!), but figured the whole family could benefit from the Proberry, Harmonia Deluxe and Ara 6 powder. I have every blood type in my family - DH (AB+), I'm an O+ (nonnie!), DS (B- nonnie), DD (A).

They used the SWAMI on my friends kids in ( ages 8 and 14) Dr. D's bridgeport office and in the Brooklyn office on a 9 year old-- I suspect it is safe for all ages.

Yes but if money is an issue I would stick with a B nonnie diet
Well maybe it is becaue the price is so ridicolous here in Europe that I feel like that.

SWAMI will go to electronic delivery in the near future (when version 2 is released). I presume it will be the same price everywhere at that point. I have not heard anything official on pricing of version 2 so that may be an incorrect assumption.
Well, I just ordered it. Don't know that DH will be thrilled at yet another purchase, but even he can't argue with the change he's seen in our son since going on this diet.
I have a niggling feeling that SWAMI would be of greater help in getting him healed. He has usually been the exception to the rule when it comes to different things (health and otherwise), so'just' following the BTD or 'just' following the GTD I didn't think would work as well as a diet specifically for him.
Thanks, everyone!
Oh, it was a surprise bonus to see they didn't add shipping to the cost of SWAMI. Woo hoo!

That would be amazing -I hope you are right - and maybe that would let Dr D´s great work to be more widely spread. I don´t blame Europeans for choosing other products de to the price differnce.

Even in America the DPN products aren't cheap. I don't use their products exclusively and I live close enough to buy them in person at the Brooklyn store. Certainly, they're high quality products and not "overpriced" for what they are, but they're not cheap and I get a lot of things from a different online vitamin retailer.
