Ugh!!! My most favorite food in the whole wide world is Avocados!!!   And I have been eating half an avocado almost every day since my childhood! I am at my ideal weight and avocados don't put weight on me, have always read how good for you they are. But it is an Avoid for me. I am 52% Hunter GT.

Do I really need to avoid them forever? Please tell me there is some kind of loop hole in this deal!?

I feel great when I eat them, they have never caused any problems for me. I am sensitive to gluten, but that's all.

Most of us have eaten something everyday-- for a long time and we find a way to let it go.

Try and let them go and eat one of the foods that is better for you.

I know that my daughter ate them and now once eliminating them she finds they give  her a stomachache.

I think everyone here has had this experience, bread is possibly the biggest thing that people complain about at first but most of us feel better once we have let it go.

Maybe you can try avoiding them for a period of time, maybe a few weeks, & then eating them again.  You may have a reaction if they are really bad for you.

I like them, too. They are like a complete food with carbs, protein, & fat. Yum!!

We all give up favorite foods & often gain new favorites.  Stay tuned for more advice.

SWAMI....SWAMI! Swami to a different level....start adjusting it to the health concerns that you want to concentrate on.....your avocado may come back to you, appearing like a long lost friend.    PS: I was one of the very few A's out there that SWAMI sanctioned to eat tomatoes as a diamond, and sweet potatoes as a diamond, and avocado comes up as a beneficial. Mind you, these were 2 different versions of SWAMI. The one I am on now is "deep blue" because of inflammation: chronic obesity means I am in a constant state of inflammation from my own exxagerated body fat. Only persue one SWAMI version at a time, please

If you turn out to be a non-secretor, then you can have avocados. However, then you don't get to eat spelt, oats, sugar, strawberries, and a whole other list of foods. O non-secretors only get 3 foods that O secretors can't have: coconut oil, lentils, and avocados.

I feel for you, Eat to live, because I did the same with red peppers, tomatoes, jalapenos....I ate salsa about every other day..by itself! So, now my swami says avoid and I try to eat a variety of other beneficial foods. Avacados are a diamond for me....so if you eat peppers and tomatoes, think of me and I will remember you when I eat avacados!

I feel for you, Eat to Live! I had the same reaction when I found out potatoes were an avoid for me. . . I was devastated! I not only ate them daily but frequently more than once a day - sometimes even for breakfast. I had no discernible health issues from potatoes, only the intense pleasure of eating them. I would rather have lived without chocolate than potato.

Nevertheless, I removed them from my diet. What I discovered after a few weeks to months was that my joints began to free up. They were not arthritic by a long shot, but would stiffen when I sat in certain positions or on the floor. I put it down to the aging process (although I was only in my mid forties then). That all disappeared! My joints are now as good as when I was in my twenties.

Occasionally, I do allow myself potato - especially when eating out - but I always notice the joint stiffness afterward. I have to say it was worth giving them up, however distressed I was at the time!!!

I assume this is the results from your SWAMI, since you indicate a Genotype %...  There is probably a very good reason why the negative outweighs the positive of this specific food for you.

Many find it's the thing that they eat everyday or the thing that they are most resistant to giving up is a thing they have a food sensitivity or allergy to.

Some things that we have sensitivities to can actually give us a little high when we eat them.

If you get enough of these reactions going, all these immune complexes can't be cleared quick enough and it's a traffic jam in the body with lots of inflammation.

Learning, learning.

Well just think about how I feel.  I love them.  And my swami says I can have them.  But everytime I eat them I get tingling feelings in my arms and wrists.  It happens every time.

So.....

If it was me, I'd avoid them for even just a week, if you can, and then eat one, and see if it makes you feel ill.  I think even in a week, if it was something that was truly bad for you, you'd be able to discern a difference.

When I cut out chicken when I first learned I was an AB, I could tell a dramatic difference within two days and by 3 days I had lost 5 pounds and felt less bloated and my stomach went flat.  And It wasn't like I needed to lose weight, but I felt better.  I didn't feel like my guts were pushing on my upper torso.  It was dramatic.

I suppose it might not be that dramatic for you, but it's at least worth a shot.

And yeah, if you don't know your secretor status, you might be spittin in the wind.  IMHO.

Wow! How do you know that? I would like to read more about that! Details please! Where can I read more about this? Is this info laid out in one of Dr. D's books?

I know this because I'm an O nonnie (non-secretor.) I started out on the O secretor diet, then moved to the "eat only foods that are OK for O secretors or O nonnies" and then, when I confirmed my secretor status, I added back in the coconut oil, lentils, and avocados.

My dietary journey was actually more complex than that, as I got a SWAMI before confirming my secretor status and there were subtle differences in SWAMI when it was run for secretor or for non-secretor. But I spent a lot of time working with the O and B food lists, as I've had my kids on the BTD even when I got my SWAMI.

Secretor status is discussed in Live Right for Your Type and the individual book plans for specific conditions incorporate secretor/nonsecretor designations.

Non secretors are lovingly referred to on this board as nonnies.

There is also a lot on this website about nonsecretors in Dr. D's materials.
