http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BupropionI have been looking at this drug for a while now. I know several people who are on it and love it--they are all O's. I'm sure it would be bad for A's, B's, and AB's, but O's may find benefit from Bupropion. Thoughts? I know this is a naturopathic forum, so a lot of people will have a negative knee-jerk reaction to a drug. I'm just curious if I can raise my dopamine levels even more, which I (as an O) have often struggled with (even with tyrosine supplementation). |

Sertraline is less toxique .... side effects of all N/SSRI always ends in dependancy!!! All my nonnie-clients on those drugs do have a problem to tapper down they need extremely long time to handle situations without this drug... to raise dopanine levels you shouldn't use l'tyrosine but GABA and or L'dopa but this only is foreseen for Mb.Parkinson patients ! |

Thanks for the advice, but I don't think Bupropion is an SSRI. It works on dopamine--not serotonin. I actually hate the feeling I get from anything like tryptophane or 5-HTP. |

Dopamine always makes me feel incredibly happy and confident. Serotonin--I try to minimize that one. |

add Catechol to your supplement regimen to help raise dopamine levels Make sure you stay hydrated

Question Dopamine depletion (?) by bupropion--ironic or logical? Dr D Two strong ABO associations might wind up coloring things of this sort (both with group O). The first is the gene linkage between ABO, DBH (dopamine beta hydroxylase) and norepinephrine. The second is the association between group O and lower platelet MAO levels (linked to gambling, impulsive behavior, etc).
video by Dr. D'Adamo about blood type and stress, in case anyone hasn't watched it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkXGk7ppTL0arginine is used to recycle nitrous oxide in the nervous system when we eat for our blood/geno type it has a positive influence on our neuro transmitters The gene for DBH which affects dopamine and the gene for ABO blood type is located at the same place: 9q34. In other words, blood type and personalities maybe related for this reason. |

Didn't know it could lead to dopamine depletion. Fantastic quote. Thank you. |

I've been taking bupropion for a while and do well on it. I did try the natural stuff but it didn't work for me, i wish it did because i'm not one who likes to take medication. If i were you i'd try the natural stuff first like exercise and the suggested supplements, i would only take the medication as a last resort. |

It's easy to see that O's would do very well on a dopamine booster. |

I don't have a "knee jerk negative reaction to drugs" because I know that, in some situations drugs are literally life savers.
But I do think that drugs are often over-used. Many people are on drugs who don't need to be, and many who do need drugs are on higher doses than absolutely necessary.
There are numerous natural dopamine-boosters out there. L-tyrosine is just one. Rhodiola root (an herb) is another. Both are contained in one of Dr D's formulas (the name of the product escapes me at the moment.) If one doesn't work, try another, or try a few natural things in combination, or play around with the doses of each ingredient. Make sure you're exercising consistently, eating enough red meat (and animal proteins in general) and avoiding the "avoid" foods.
If you're doing all that, and it's still not enough, then medication may be needed. But chances are you'll do well on a low dose if you're also exercising and eating right. Combining herbs and drugs needs to be done cautiously; sometimes it's safer to stop the herbs and amino acids if you're taking a pharmaceutical that does the same thing. |

True - I'm just mentally entertaining the idea, since O's do well on it. |

Looks good for BTO's, especially those with hypoadrenia or adrenal fatigue. I tend towards hypotension (sometimes as low as 75/55) so I'm going to look into this for myself ! good find ! |

I did this for awhile. I went to a diet doctor who prescribed it. I was on it for like 6 months. The entire time I would have extreme hot flashes.. to the point of flat out dripping. It was awful. For awhile it worked as far as making me not want to eat junk. But then it stopped working. I got off of it and became ravenous for junk and couldn't stop. In the midst of that agnst ridden time.. I stumbled upon The Mood Cure by Julia Ross. I highly recommend getting it - it's cheap, and will guide you to what 'you personally' need to do. I cannot recommend it enough. I took the tests in the book and ended up taking 4 of the amino acid supp's they recommend. I am a new person and finally got to the point where I could handle the cravings without them driving me to the store to buy a load of junk to eat. This gave me the time frame needed to get going on my Swami compliance. I would try this first before any chemical laden pill. Plus you don't stay on these forever.. it will describe in the book how you slowly get your brain chemistry back in order and then wean off the amino's. Much luck! |

Saved my life, probably. I'm glad I don't need it anymore though as it did have a weird long-lasting side-effect.
That being said, it worked well for me when I needed it, much better than SSRIs. Then I found BTD and that along with intense exercise helped me wean off it. |
