Since I'm just getting back to it and working to eschew grains from my diet, I purchased a loaf of Ezekiel bread to help me wean myself off of starch. I just checked Swami (haven't been there in about 8 months) and don't see Ezekiel bread listed at all! Essene and manna bread are bennies for my Gatherer self, but Ezekiel isn't listed at all...not as a bennie, neutral or avoid. Since it's not listed, I'm treating it as neutral, but was wondering if something had changed regarding the Ezekiel bread since I last checked on it.
Any input on this?
Thanks! |

Check the ingredients.
Brand names are not going to be in the SWAMI.
Essene and Manna are descriptive rather than brand, names. |

I believe they've reformulated and added "wheat gluten" to it. Try the Food for Life Black China Rice Bread or Bhutanese Red Rice Bread or the Millet/Rice Bread instead. |

I'm wondering, would you call Ezekiel bread a sprouted bread? I looked up how you make it and well they don't show it being sprouted. http://www.urbansimplicity.com However if you want I believe it could be made with compliant beans and grains. Hoping to make next week. Trading the bulgur wheat, barley lentils with Amaranth, teff, using adzuki, and great northern beans. We will see how it goes. |

Ezekiel bread was always an allowed bread for Type Os. It's still neutral in the Typebase, but, as I said, is not on my Swami. However, usually it's been said to treat those items not listed as neutral. I'm going to finish this one loaf, then, hopefully, be off of bread entirely excepting here and there.
I just wondered if anyone else had noticed this in the past 6-8 months.
Thanks! |

I think Dr D took it out of SWAMI because the company kept changing the ingredients, and he was no longer comfortable recommending specific commercial products. I just checked all 6 food lists in GTD, and Ezekial isn't listed there either, which means that Dr D abandoned the ratings for this product before writing GTD and certainly before SWAMI.
I was going to suggest using up this one loaf and then buying or baking something more compliant when it's gone. I know you're aiming for 80% compliance right now, not 100%, so be sure to count this bread in your 20%. If you were having severe health issues and needed to be 100% compliant immediately, I'd suggest giving away the bread. |

Thanks, Ruthie. You did a lot of work for me...WoW! I agree with you that I would just compost it if I were having health issues. We need to meet up! |

Are you planning to go to the meeting in Williamsburg on September 9th? |
