I'm pretty sure that everything that's beneficial on my SWAMI is also beneficial on either the Gatherer Diet or one version or another of the O nonnie diet (for diabetes, or arthritis, etc.) But some foods on those lists are "avoids" for my personal SWAMI, and it certainly clears up any confusion when the two food lists conflict with one another (BTD says carrots are beneficial, GTD says they're a black dot; SWAMI says they're beneficial. Other O nonnie gatherers might have a different SWAMI result.)
Cinnamon is an avoid for O nonnies but a black dot for me- it's still something I use incredibly sparingly, and I'm not always super-picky about spices anyway.(This food is also a Gatherer superfood.) I can't think offhand if any other foods went from BTD "avoid" to a better status on my SWAMI.

Are we talking about the difference in foods from BTD/GTD to SWAMI or SWAMI changes happening within SWAMI itself? thanks |

I think she's comparing BTD to SWAMI. |

That's exactly what I meant!!! And what exactly is a black dot? Is a black dot bad? |

A black dot is something you need to avoid during the initial washout period. After that you can eat it.
In SWAMI there a five levels of food, which allows you to target you diet more precisely.

A black dot is officially "avoid for 2 months then re-introduce to your diet." I find them to be "foods to eat VERY sparingly" not as "neutrals after 2 months on the plan." They're listed in the "avoid" column, but with a dot next to them, both in GTD and in SWAMI. They're basically "avoids that aren't QUITE as bad for you."
If you're eating out, and accidentally ingest a "black dot" then you haven't "cheated." But these "black dot" foods aren't things you're going to cook with regularly- perhaps for a special holiday meal. |

I am talking BTD/GTD to SWAMI. Changes in SWAMI occur when a user changes data on their data intake form. These ordinarily only shift a food slightly, but depending on the change on the data intake form foods could move a food more drastically. |

Quite a few things went from 'avoid' on the BTD to neutral or even superfood on my swami. I lost a few things too, like mozzarella is no longer a good cheese for me, but there are many cheeses that are good. Swami is very individualized. |

On Genotype Diet (from the lists in the book), coconut milk is a black dot for Hunters and an outright avoid for everybody else. On any individual SWAMI, results can vary.
Also bear in mind that we're all taking control of our own health here. Some of us don't follow the food lists exactly, but choose to include some "avoid" foods for various reasons: foods that are socially or emotionally hard to avoid but don't seem to cause obvious physical harm. Many people do very well eating that way; emphasizing beneficials, strictly avoiding certain foods, but being more relaxed with other foods.
Only you can decide which approach is best for you at this time in your life, or which foods you're willing to be less strict about.
If you do decide to include coconut milk in your diet, read labels carefully. Many commercial coconut milk products (including canned coconut milk and coconut-milk based ice creams) contain unhealthy additives such as carageenan and/or unhealthy gums.
