I bought a large tub of nutrional yeast to feed cats and one had a colitis attack, so discontinued. I have a huge amount left, so may as well use it. It is a diamond food; the problem is-it smells like dirty gym socks left in the locker for months without washing. I put about a tsp on veggies once, it tasted like it smelled, but gave me terrible gas. Is the gas a normal reaction? I bought Kal brand made from molasses and not from beer brewing. Any ideas for developing a tolerance for the stuff. Vegans on Amazon thought it tasted like cheese, obviously it had been a very long time since they had tasted cheese. |

Nutritional yeast has lots of b-vitamins. If you consume more b-vitamins that your body can absorb it will end up feeding the microflora in your gut. If these happen to be gas forming bacteria, gas is what you you are going to end up with. May want to scale back your dose initially. |

Since I'm an A sometimes for breakfast I mix it with oat bran, ground flax seeds, or whatever is compliant for you with some almond milk. That way it is still nutritional but gets mixed in with the other flavors.
I've purchased Kal brand nutritional yeast and I don't care for it. The flakes are larger than when I buy it in the bulk section of a HFS. Of course since you already have it try mixing it.
What I get in the bulk section tastes cheesy.

mikeo I think it is a bit more complicated than that?! Love this lol
Vegans on Amazon thought it tasted like cheese, obviously it had been a very long time since they had tasted cheese.
I tried yeast once & even though it was only a thumbful in size, I reacted with a breakout on my cheek straight away (yet I don't react to B vitamins) |

If it is a diamond, I understand you would like to introduce nutritional yeast in your diet.
Both Yeast Extract Spread, Marmite and Nutritional yeast a black dots in my swami. To be true, it is a relief concerning the latter one, because I just can not stand its taste and smell and it good knews to know I don't miss something important for my health by not using it. But it bad knews concerning "Marmite", found in my country as "Cenovis", that I just love.
I believe - I'm sure someone is going to telle me if I am wrong - that marmite is very close to nutritional yeast. Do you know "Marmite" ? Do you know it can be used in sauces, soups, and spread on bread ? How is it rated for you, kittykar1 ? |

It "has a cheesy taste" but it doesn't have the mouth-feel of cheese. You wouldn't sprinkle it on your burger and expect it to taste like a cheeseburger. But you can use a teaspoon in a recipe in place of parmesean cheese and get similar results. In larger amounts, nutritional yeast is going to taste like nutritional yeast. Not a bad taste, but not quite like cheese either. It's the same way that soymilk tastes like real soy milk, not like fake cow's milk. |

I haven't had the courage to try it again. I will wait awhile. It is a diamond, since I hate fish and don't eat those diamonds, cheese or grain diamonds, I thought I would try to add others in. |
