I've read so much conflicting info. about agave, some says agave is the best thing out there others say it's the worst.  In a nutshell it is a neutral on my swami.

I was finally able to afford to buy some green tea i like that i used before to get off coffee.  I want to start drinking it but need a sweetner.  Stevia is a black dot, plus i don't like it to much anyways.

Thanks!

Hi Mickey - if you can try the a good green tea without any sweetener for just over a week, you will find that you don't need a sweetener - not entirely sure why it works but it does.

just don t overdo that value and you are good to go

PC,
It would be great if i could go without sweetner.  Right now i'm drinking coffee again with sugar and cream.  I've realized it's not just the coffee that's the problem it's how much sugar i put in my coffee, so if i could get off coffee i think i would eliminate a good portion of my sugar consumption.  Would agave still be a better option than sugar if i have to use alittle sweetner?.

Thanks!

Good point Lola!

I looked it up but it reads frequency: 0 to 1 serving as needed. ???

Mickey, that is how i kicked my coffee with sweetener habit. I used to drink coffee with milk and equal. i needed it sweet too. when i started BTD, i switched from equal to agave with rice milk. i can now drink coffee with just rice milk. i know coffee is an avoid, but i just can't right now. green tea does not give me the same kick and i really don't enjoy it. good luck. sometimes baby steps help to get you where you want to be!

Agave Nectar is super beneficial for me, according to SWAMI.  Alone, it might be okay for my weight.  But it's effect is to prime my appetite for sweet foods, and I quickly move on to "harder" sweets.

If this were me, I'd enjoy it iced with fresh mint leaves for summer.  At other times of the year, I like to use hot green tea as a base for an infusion of ghee (or coconut oil) and spices to create a savory beverage.

Good luck!

My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

Agave is a better choice than sugar, definitely. But it's still a concentrated sweetener, and not the best choice for starting out your day. Having that one teaspoon per day at bedtime would probably work better.

However, it sounds like you need to take baby steps right now.  If drinking green tea with agave will help you get off coffee with sugar and milk, then it's a good thing. Just bear in mind that you may not be able to lose much weight until your'e ready to wean off the agave. There's more to good health than "acheiving target weight" and, if you feel the need to take baby steps, weight loss may be on hold.

I second what Ruthie says. Just remember that Agave is a sugar, ti isn't that much healthier than plain, white sugar. It is also much sweeter than sugar, so don't use as much. Sugar can be a very difficult habit to break, set an eventual goal of no more than 15g of added sugar per day (this would be above your swami recommendations of fruits and veggies-yes, some veggies have sugar), there are 16g of sugar in one tablespoon of agave.

How does maple syrup do on your list? I love my tea with just a little bit maple syrup. I like the taste better then agave nectar. And have you tried honey? Delicious in tea as well.

But as others have said, not too much.
