Today I changed the frequency setting on SWAMI from "Compute Best" to "More frequent/ Larger portions".

Here is what happened:

Meat    went from 3 x 3oz to 5 x 5oz an increase of 180%
Poultry went from 4 x 3oz to 4 x 5oz an increase of 65%
Fish     went from 5 x 3oz to 7 x 5oz an increase of 135%
Eggs    went from 6...........to 10.........an increase of 65%
Dairy   went from 1oz.......to 12oz......an increase of 1100%! (on the lower end both times)
Pulses went from 2 cups   to 3 cups  an increase of 50%
Nutbutter    from 4 Tblsp  to 6 Tblsp an increase of 50%
Carbs went from 1/4 cup  to 2 cups  an increase of 700%!
Muffins      from 1/2.........to 4...........an increase of 700%!
Bread went from 1 slice    to 8 slices an increase of 700%!
Vegetables from 6 portions to 7.........an increase of 17%
Fruit went from 3 pieces......to 4........an increase of 35%

Now having ticked the 'inflammation' box on both calculations I am surprised to see the huge increase in carbohydrates, them being the prime suspect for inflammation in O's!

I would have expected all categories to go up by the roughly the same percentage

What's your thoughts?

I am VERY tempted to take the average between the two and end up with:

Meat x 1 extra portion/week (handy)
Poultry stays the same.
Fish x 1 extra portion/week (always good)
eggs x 2 extra (could bake some goodies now )
Dairy x 5 extra oz/week (wouldn't have to be so stingy with the parmesan )
Pulses x 1 extra Tblsp (nice to know)
Nutbutter x 1 extra Tblsp (treat!)
Carbs x 1 cup/day (cereal for breakfast possible now)
or 2 muffins (what an indulgence )
or 4 slices bread (sandwiches for lunch again?)
Vegetables and fruit only get a little more.

The carbs really are the big surprise here...

PS: I ticked the "More frequent/ Larger portions" because I need to put back 4.5 kilos I lost in my recent flare-up and seem to be constantly hungry on the "Compute Best" setting.

And there's still a thread running for another Hunter who is looking for tips on how to put on weight...

Thought I could catch two birds here with one stone, but now I am not so sure if I really want to go there 100%....

SWAMI give you a variety of settings.

Why not let SWAMI calculate something less than "More frequent/ Larger portions"?

Let SWAMI do the math to choose the appropriate scaling.

carbs are immediate energy to burn. my guess is the reason you would check that box would be because of high activity or high metabolism. i haven't been in SWAMI for awhile. muffins?

the carbs swami gives you are not that many choices, right?

I know that my avoid carbs would cause me a lot of inflammatory issues, but not the right carbs, those which are beneficials......those help metabolize my system

The other thread deals with a person wanting to gain, but she is eating way to little having a hard time after she messed her insides up.. Big difference..

For me any extra gets added to my belly, so careful,

The total weight gained by eating is mostly water weight.

Good weight gained by exercising and eating takes a little time.

..... yet, If I was not interested in keeping my weight down, I would just eat more, but then I ask, what made you drop weight? and why did it not go back on its own?
Why be hungry if you can add weight?  ....

... now I am going to play with my Swami.. just to see if it would change any of the foods????

.... But the other thing, why would Swami not calculate all portions by comparing average size to the persons need for food.. what would have happened if you just changed to the lower weight and let it compute what you need? Should Swami know when to lose and when to gain?  most curious that it allows to go outside of the norm?  Why would it allow to eat mountains?  when in life would that ever be needed?  Even runners of marathons eat normal.

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

I know that carbs add inflammation to my body, not JUST weight.  Behind the knee is the 1st. I avoid all grains and limit my fruit. If you need more food, maybe try the veg proteins, lean protein and more veggies witht the addition of upping the fruit a bit. If it's inflamation you want to keep down, upping your grains could be counter-productive IMO. Also to add that in 'compute best' my carb (grain/fruit/juice) is way to high to control my blood sugar, even the beneficials.

Yes, excellent point! I should have clarified...I am exercising- don't want to put on just weight, I actually lost muscle mass, so I want THAT back   !
So far I put on a pound a week- that is hopefully slow enough not to be fat and water

Had a colitis flare up, a bad one...so I spend 4 weeks not being able to do much at all because of weakness, tiredness and worn out-ness

I did just change my weight input initially , but it didn't alter anything- I suppose I still fell into a 'normal' weight range even after the weight loss.
As for 'eating mountains'- that's what I thought when I saw the carb portions   , hence this post
This might be something where SWAMI could be tweaked...

PS: C_Sharps suggestion (Normal portion setting) did give me portions (not quite so many carbs and dairy) in keeping with I had expected, so for now (while I feel so hungry) I'll run with that and see how I go

You will want to filter these suggestions by your current dietary advice, but the foods that "increases lean muscle mass" for O's :

Beef it up with

  Beef
  Buffalo
  Mutton
  Veal
  Venison

Or Fish it up with

  Cod
  Perch
  Pike
  Shad
  Sole
  Sturgeon
  Swordfish
  Tilefish
  Trout, rainbow
  Yellow Tail

I have passed over specific cuts and foods which differ with respect to secretor status.

My weight loss goal: 220 lbs.  A 6'4" dyslexic oddball: the size of a line-backer, the silhouette of Winnie-the-Pooh.

Have been 'fishing it up'

Reckoned with my history of inflammation I can do less wrong eating extra portions of fish than any other food group...

Oh, and flaxseed bread...keeping in mind my egg portion size.

So far so good foodwise, now my body needs to start responding to the exercises...
