I've been cutting down on animal protein - I'm not planning to completely cut it out, just reduce it - and I've been considering using nutritional yeast, but I don't really know anything about it so any personal thoughts/experiences would be appreciated.  Love it?  Hate it?  Favorite ways to use it?  Favorite brand?  Thanks in advance

I sprinkle it on my breakfast and make salad dressing with it.

Love it with ghee on veggies. I've heard not to buy it from the bulk bins, light destroys the B vitamins.

I mix it into my omelettes, sprinkle it into stews, and mix it into grains sometimes. But I only add to my own portion  because it's an avoid for my daughter. So I haven't really experimented with using it as a seasoning in sauces or salad dressings.

I buy it in bulk at the local HFS.

I love it!  Such a delicious way to get some b vitamins. I try not to cook or heat it too much, as I've heard it destroys some nutrition, so I will just move it about the pan after cooking a stir fry and taking it off the heat. My favourite way to eat it is sprinkled on top of a big salad with avocado - tossed together with salt and mixed italian herbs it is amazing, and gives a lovely cheesey taste

I sprinkle it on top of eggs scrambled in ghee - it's SO good.  I buy the KAL imported ones....very fine powdery flakes.  Whole Foods sells it.

I also have purchased KAL brand - online.  My DD mixes it with avocado to eat with cheese and almond crackers...  I usually mix it with apple or pineapple juice and drink it...  

A great way to get a burst of B vitamins and amino acids.

I like to sprinkle the large flake yeast on lightly toasted rice cakes that have been spread with almond butter.

Back when I ate tofu, I sauteed cubes of it, tossed with a bit of tamari and sprinkled with nutritional yeast and onion/garlic granules.  It made a nice little crust.

If you can eat popcorn, it is great sprinkled over popcorn. It has a cheesey taste to it - many vegan or vegetarian cheese products use it for flavoring.

I sprinkle it on top of lentil soup...makes it taste cheesy. But with some added vegetables, a bowl of soup plus nutritional yeast makes a filling complete meal for me.

Joyce, how does your SWAMI rate nut. yeast?  Remember, we have individualized diets...what's good
for one person might not be good for everyone.

Notice that in your link, this company sells their own green drink saying it's free of of Saccharomyces cerevisiae....which is their selling point...pointing out that other companies of green drinks have it.

I eat n-yeast in plain yogurt with garlic powder, cumin, and sea salt and dip raw veggies in it (or often eat it by itself); just had some tonight!

A long time ago someone recommended to me to use nutritional yeast daily if possible to help with symptoms of ADD in a natural way.  I've been using it as part of a breakfast type cereal with oat bran, ground flax seeds, and brewers yeast.  When you add almond milk and a little sweetner its a good start for the day.

Lately, I've been sprinkling ground cinnamon on top of the mixture.  It's yummy.

Just reading the above ways people use it gives me additional ideas.

It is in my list in lower case letters, Chloe, and I have ordered a small tub of it, so will give it another try.
I had some years ago, liked it and then read a bit few snips of Dr Blaylock so stopped using it.
Is it an avoid for any blood types as I couldn't see it in typebase4?

I tried the nutritional yeast for the first time yesterday.  I used it to make nondairy "cheese" spread.  the texture turned out a little strange because I had to substitute a couple ingredients, but the flavor was really good. it's always fun to find new things to play with in the kitchen.  thanks everyone for your ideas and recipes!

If it's not in typebase, then it's not evaluated for BTD. Is is evaluated for GTD and SWAMI.

Nutritional yeast contains similar protiens as MSG, although in a more natural, whole-food form. Nutritional yeast is a powerhouse of B vitamins along with other vitamins and minerals. However, some people react badly to the glutamates and can't tolerate nutrional yeast.

On my SWAMI, nutritional yeast is beneficial and, surprisingly, MSG is neutral. Not that I'd eat any processed food with MSG in it, but it's nice to know that the  glutamates aren't really toxic for me personally. My daughter's SWAMI lists nutrional yeast as an avoid, probably because she's an Explorer. I suspect my other daughter is also an Explorer, so I don't feed her nutrional yeast either. I just add it to my own portion rather than cooking with it in family meals.
