My Swami says I'm 49% Explorer. The exercise talks about breaking a sweat but since Crossfit seems like a league of their own, I wanted y'alls opinion. Do you think this type of work out would be a good fit? |

From a very brief read, it sounds like they would scale a workout to meet your needs...
The CrossFit program is designed for universal scalability making it the perfect application for any committed individual regardless of experience. We’ve used our same routines for elderly individuals with heart disease and cage fighters one month out from televised bouts. We scale load and intensity; we don’t change programs.

Swami Description
Exercise Guide It should be emphasized that the one condition of all exercise for Explorers is the breaking of a sweat. If you are an Explorer and you do not sweat when you exercise, you are not exercising enough! To stay fit and healthy, reduce stress, and increase endurance, you’ll need about 40 minutes of exercise 4-5 times weekly. Be sure to warm up for at least 5-10 minutes with some gentle stretching before beginning any aerobic activity.
Less Demanding: Hiking Pilates or other forms of core-strengthening Vigorous walking Moderate Competitive Sports (Tennis, Racquetball, Volleyball) Light upper and lower body weight work
More Demanding: Aerobics Intense Competitive Sports (Martial Arts, Basketball, Soccer) Dancing Gymnastics Moderate resistance training Running

I think the Crossfit trainer should be able to take these guidelines and scale your program to within them. Obviously, if you have not been exercising, you will want to ramp up at a pace you can handle, without killing yourself, but any trainer should be able to guide you through this as well. |

I want Crossfit to fit within Swami guidelines.  where I think the discrepancies would be is in the demand of the sport. Pushing to do as many set of 10 Broad Jump Burpees, 6 Hand Stand Push Ups and 7 Clap Push Up could be too much. It's certainly not stillness or slow and gentle pacing as yoga. I don't want to over do it. The concept of Crossfit is exciting to me, I just don't want to be trying to shove a square peg into a round hole and wondering why i feel like c**p. |

Crossfit is pretty intense and I don't think is contra-indicated. My 21 started it after shoulder surgery and said it was the best work out ever. My 51 year old body needed some tweaks as my Achilles couldn't keep up with jumps for some of the exercises.

It would probably be a matter of frequency. There's probably no reason why you couldn't do Crossfit 3 days a week. |
