I'm thinking of trying gunpowder G.T.. I've been reading that it is a good substitute for coffee. I once again need to get off of it, i've tried the yerba mate/cocoa combination that some have recommended but it just isn't doing it for me. I'm kind of picky when it comes to G.T., i haven't had too many that i really liked. I usually like the stronger varieties, but don't want any lemon/fruity notes to it. I've read that gunpowder can have a lemony flavor to it, maybe that's just certain brands?.
Does anyone have any recommendations for brands that would fit what i'm looking for?.
Thanks in advance for your help! If i don't respond right away it's because i no longer have internet service at home and have to go elsewhere, so it may take a few days to get back to this. |

I've been getting my Gunpowder Green Tea from Harney & Sons on the internet for the last two years. Their quality has been great. http://www.harney.com/ |

Mickey, I had the Rumi brand gunpowder GT, but didn't love it. For replacing coffee, I like genmachi the best, it's roasted GT with roasted brown rice I believe. |

The brand gunpowder green tea they import to our places is called "Temple of Heaven" by Shanghai Tiantan Intl Trading. It is strong, a bit smoky, and has no lemon of fruity flavor. I make 1-3 teapots everyday and I quite like it. |

Thanks for all your replies and sorry it took me so long to get back to this!!!. I'm going to WF's today and i'm going to get a gunpowder G.T., unfortunately i can't afford to order the G.T. since i'm on F.S.'s. I will keep your brand recommendations in mind when i go to WF's, who knows they may carry it?. Paula, I've tried genmacha before and i'm not a fan of it, but thanks for the suggestion!. |

If you're shopping locally, the best quality teas are to be found in bulk, which you'll need to take home and store in a glass jar to protect from the air. I believe the gunpowder green tea in my favorite health food store comes from Mountain Rose. The company sells very high quality products, but I don't personally like the flavor of gunpowder tea. |
