I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience. Kukicha tea is a Super Food for me in Swami. I'm very caffeine sensitive so normal green tea gives me caffeine withdrawl headaches. I have some really nice loose leaf Kukicha tea and have been loving the taste.
There's only one problem. It seems to be giving me intense heartburn! Has anyone else had this problem? For something that is supposed to be so alkalizing to the body I can't understand why and am upset because I wanted to enjoy the health benefits of green tea without the caffeine. |

Kukicha tea totally gives me bad heartburn too! Green tea does not, so that's what I drink - prepared carefully as Dr. D suggests. Water just under boiling, short steeping ~ 1 minute or so. |

Are you sure it's Kukicha? You say it's a loose leaf tea. Kukicha is not made from leaves; it's made from the twigs of the tea bush. |

Are you drinking it on an empty stomach? Green tea on an empty stomach makes me nauseated; but it's fine if I have it with or after food. |

Yes I'm sure it's Kukicha. Great suggestions, thanks. I'll try having it with food. Also I'm sweetening it and wondering if I drink it unsweetened if it will still give me heartburn. Victoria,if all else fails I'll try regular green tea again, maybe a Morrocan Mint or something cooling like that. |

Make sure it's green Kukicha! (You probably already know this, but I just found it out...) I got some Kukicha tea the other day, made it up - it was really tasty, but looked more the color of black tea, so I was suspicious, and come to learn, it was "regular" Kukicha, not green Kukicha. It really upset my stomach like black tea also does. |

Hmm, I thought kukicha was pretty alkalinizing but it sounds like it's making your system more acid-y. Are you boiling it or letting it steep under hot water for at least 5 minutes? |

I loved the green kukicha tea I used to get from my health food store. It is from Japan and I no longer purchase it since the radiation tragedy. It was not light in color though...medium brown. I think Peppermint twist on this forum used to drink the same kind. Wow, I didn't realize so many of you are sensitive to even green tea! I must be one of the lucky ones as I can drink any kind of tea, even on an empty stomach. |

Wow me either. Mine is dark in color. Good to know there is a green version. |

I'd like to try the Green Kukicha. Do any of you have a favorite place that you get it from? My local health food stores only carry the roasted version. |
