make you go.... Aaaaaaaaaah. Or MAN THAT WAS GOOD, after eating them.
This changes for me from time to time. At least some of them do. But I swear there are certain foods that after I eat them, I just feel like man I needed that. Maybe it's my mind talking. I don't know. Or my tastebuds. But some of the foods I don't think it's just tastebuds. My first top food is a nice bowl of oatmeal. And I don't add much honey, maybe 1/2 teaspoon (I've been upping it lately to see how I'd do and so far so good) and you can't even really taste it in almost a cup of oatmeal. I mean a cup dry. That's what I eat with some nuts and either cinnamon or carob powder. But oatmeal has a real "earthy" flavor. And I still think it's super great. Meaning it doesn't taste like junk food, but I still think it tastes SO GOOD. And my gut, heck my whole body just seems to go "MAN THAT WAS GREAT", like tony the tiger after I eat it. I pray it is nourishing me in a good way. And I think it is.
Another food I've really really liked lately is boiled parsnips. I had some with dinner the other night and I almost jumped out of my skin I liked them so much. I just peel, cut in big pieces and boil. But man they are just out of this world to me.
And finally, grapefruit. I started eating it the civilized way by cutting in half, slitting the meat from the skin around it, and using one of those grapefruit spoons. I don't add sugar or salt or anything. But the other morning I almost came unglued as to how good it was. (breakfast)
Those are all superfoods for me, btw. I think they are all actually diamonds too. And I'm thanking God for them and that I can eat them.
So what foods are doing it for you lately?

I am feeling the same with grapefruit, love it! Peanuts are a newie for me, a diamond I have never really enjoyed before now, but if i am really tired or craving sweets they stop the cravings and give me energy. Pumpkin is filling and makes me feel good especially if peccorino is in the same meal (pumpkin was my most least favourite as a child All diamonds too!

I recently ate sliced rutabego, cooked in a fry pan sliced thin, a little butter and steamed.. delish..
no other food makes me say I needed that.. because it would be on avoid, but early morning drinks feel good..
interesting question.. worth thinking about.
grapefruit or any fruit is a pleasure to eat.. but saying I needed THAT- is not easy as that would be avoids..!
Interesting question..
I sometimes feel that I really need Vit B6 or now I seem to be enamored with Trehalose powder - especially on grapefruit.. makes it so sweet. and I nearly feel that maybe it is solving my headache issues (hoping-but way to early to tell). Yet I feel that it is deffinitviely 'working' on the outer layers of my head..kind of a place I never had 'felt' before.. If that where so I would say My body needed that..
but foods? I can not think of any, other then avoids.. what a question.. glad you asked it. I will need to keep a look out..

A good grapefruit for one. I like to warm it a tiny bit (30 sec) in the microwave and that really brings out the flavor. I don't sweeten it at all. Another is a really good grilled buffalo or grass fed beef burger, as a sandwich with rice and millet bread or black china rice bread toasted with a teeny bit of mayo (I use Lemonnaise) and compliant salsa (the peach one from DL Jardines only has a little vinegar and virtually no other avoids). I usually put a little tomato and some baby spinach on it and it's just SO satisfying.
Interesting how a few of us said grapefruit. Maybe they're just good right now.
I like seeing this. For a while pumpkin was like that for me too. Especially pumpkin and peanut butter or peanuts. Pineapple does this sometimes too, but not as much lately. Peaches have done it for me. Frozen and baked in the oven until soft.
Lamb has done it but now I'm leaning more towards beef that really does it for me. And actually a good slab of Turkey has always made me go YEAH!!!! That one is consistent.

My desires change depending on season, etc. As long as the food is on my beneficial foods list, it is an opportunity food. I really enjoy my SWAMI foods lists.
I do like adding the Trehalose complex to juice of my home-grown grapefruit. My grapefruit doesn't get enough heat to be really sweet, so the added sugar really helps it.
I feel almost guilty that green peas (a diamond) are so easy to digest and make me feel so good. After all the years of struggling with those dreaded beans, these green peas are almost like cheating on all points! I adore grapefruit too, but I think I will have to wait a while before I can tolerate them regularly. Don't know what it is about me and grapefruit. Clementines are fine though. I swoon over ripe clementines (a diamond) the way I used to swoon over ripe peaches (a neutral now). I love raspberries and carob (both diamonds). Buckwheat, amaranth and millet are all wonderful! Diamond fish and turkey I adore! Now, I'm about to have a bowl of rice cereal, banana and rice milk. Yummy!

I think at the end of the day grapefruit is somethings I can say MY body needed that.. I certainly did after my pneumonia..
So what is it about grapefruit?
I think it feels like they neutralize the sweet stuff or the avoids I might have eaten..
Iwonder what they might really do for us??

grapefruit with pink sea salt eggs cooked in ghee with feta & green onions almond butter with carob chips pinto beans & brown rice (either mexican bowl or stir fry with veggies & tamari) romaine lettuce avocado (this is my top food right now! yum!) green tea walnuts
All of my current favorite foods are beneficials for me. I have been struggling with a sugar craving since returning from a ski trip where I splurged almost daily. But, I am proud of how much more vegetable I'm fitting into my days. I've been doing this since December of 2011 & each day it clicks more.
I'm glad it's getting easier for you. Can you have dates or figs or prunes? I eat these and I don't really crave sweets, like junk food. I don't know if it's because I'll eat other stuff that's good, but junk food or sweet treats make me feel awful. And even Dates I can't have more than a couple at one time. But they are awesome!!!!

I love a bowl of plain organic yogurt for breakfast with pineapple or a cut up apple, walnuts, some dried cherries or cranberries and some cinnamon. It tastes so clean and it is so refreshing.

It can vary. I remember how wonderful I used to feel after eating a big plate of chicken liver pan-fried with onions; cooked in either chicken fat or coconut oil. But chicken liver is now a black dot for me, and I suspect I got that great reaction to it because I wasnt' eating nearly as much meat (especially red meat) at the time. I've had similar reactions to beef, when I first started eating it regularly. I don't always get that "wow! that was nourishing!" feeling from beef anymore.
I always feel wondeful after eating lamb, but it's REALLY expensive and hard to get locally, so it's an occasional treat. I wonder if it would continue to feel so wonderful if had it all the time and my body got saturated with whatever nutrients are found in lamb.

Asparagus makes me feel cleansed as does pomgranates. When I need energy for physical work lamb is great. Fish and eggs help me with concentration and brain fog.

Ruth, come and visit us and we'll treat you to a lamb dinner! Lamb is a biggie here.
Brown rice usually gives me a "satisfied" feeling. The two other items I am just loving right now are asparagus and pears. They aren't even considered beneficials for me, so I don't get it! I haven't had the specialized testing though...
I love this thread! So many wonderful foods being talked about.
Spunky, I would imagine that sometimes our bodies need or want certain nutrients and it comes from certain foods. Whether they are beneficials on the list or not, might not be as big a deal at that time. Plus, if you're not on SWAMI, some foods that are neutrals on the BTD lists can change to diamonds. Either way, good food is good food!!!! I thank God for his provision.

I ate a kiwi today that made me go WOW!!!!! It felt like a couple spoon fulls of medicine. So good. And I ate a whole grapefruit yesterday at snack time and it just was fantastic. Usually I only eat a 1/2. But it just tasted right that day.

Usually a meal of any compliant meat (incl. fish which I call meat), lots of veggies & a starch make me feel good. In the morning, if it is hot weather, a large portion of juicy fruit is very refreshing. I like other categories of food, but a meal like the above has that satisfying feeling!

I feel "off" without my daily snack of fresh, juicy pineapple. Peanut butter, almond butter, almonds, avacado mashed with lime and onion, brown rice/wild rice, roasted turkey, grilled salmon, manchego or parmesan with "Marys gone crackers" Gf rice/flax crackers, and oatmeal with ghee and cinnamon......these are my " ahh, feeling comfortably full and satisying foods"...

two poached eggs with sauteed mushrooms and spinach smothered in egg & butter sauce is my current go-to meal when feeling the need for a satisfying protein hit without the flesh of meat or fish - I am a bit sick of meat atm - just not inspired to cook it every day
rice salads. green tea with carob syrup & cream lol. mango lassi. spirulina.
Two foods really stand out for me, that's lamb and buffalo. They have either been a beneficial (btd), superfood or diamond food. No wonder they make me feel soo good!!!.

I'm with you, Joe! Now I know why I didn't like steak and roast beef when I was younger! Wish we knew how toxic red meat was for us back then....our poor intestines! My Mom used to make liver and onions once a month "for the iron" and tried to make me eat it. I literally gagged ....and secretly gave it to my dog sitting under my chair!!!! I realize grass fed red meat is good for most O's but it can be that bad (and constipating) for A's!

Peanut butter!!! And wholesome dark chocolate. They just seem to hit the spot when nothing else will. I also enjoy a good green-leafy salad (but no tomatoes or avocados - I really miss those.)
Over the years of learning about healthy eating, I've actually had it happen to me several times where I eat something and my body seemed to be "thanking" me for it! I believe that the cleaner our diet, and the more careful we are to eat the foods that are good for us, the more our bodies "tell" us what they need. If I don't get any nuts for a few days, I can almost hear my body saying, "Nuts, please, and soon." I just have this craving for them; those and leafy greens.

not only the good fats on my swami, which are all in blue and deeply antiinflammatory, but also think of adding those gelatinous fibers to your everyday diet
chia and flax, to name a few

I eat a salad every day, and I always feel amiss if I don't. So, I'm guessing it's one of those foods too. I don't always go, MAN I NEEDED THAT, after eating one though. But my digestions slows if I don't eat one. So..... I love the crunch of the lettuce though. It really hits the spot.

And some A's. Lamb is a diamond and venison is neutral on my SWAMI.
I've been on a anti anti-red meat campaign on these boards because there's been so many posts about how red meat is BAD for A's. And I'm half an A and I have several read meats as diamond superfoods. Beef liver, calf liver, lamb, goat and rabbit are all diamond superfoods. Actually, I think goat is just a superfoods. Then, I get venison, bison, buffalo, beef and veal as neutrals. And I get them 5 times a week. And I think they help start my immune system and give me energy from the B vitamins in them.
But because if a person has only read the basic BTD book, red meat is BAAAAAAD for A's. Even though they typically overlook that nonnies can have lamb.
It's not BAD folks. It's good for many of us!!!!!!! Yes, there are some that are probably better off with out. But it's not the case with everyone, not even all A's.
And yeah, lamb is good for me too!! I need to eat it more, but it's pretty expensive. Well, the good stuff is. I have a leg in my freezer I need to cook up. I think I might defrost it this week. Yum.

Salmon patties with garlic yoghurt - I love these - I add fresh chilli, coriander leaves, mint chives or cucumber, loads of lime or lemon juice and even capers sometimes, straight into the yoghurt. Eat them with fresh greens or sauteed mushrooms and grated parmigiano reggiano.
I'll just add long grain brown to the list. I had some two nights ago and I just LOVED IT!

JJR, I have really been enjoying this thread! I love seeing all the wonderful foods and people's reactions to them. But especially I love your enthusiasm for the foods that really seem to hit the spot with you! I have read enough of your posts to understand that you had lost your appetite at one time and also lost a lot of weight and are trying to gain now. So it is really wonderful to see you enjoying food so much!!
I made a really satisfying meal this evening... ground turkey in ghee over tinkyada brown rice spirals; rutabaga with dill; and a veggie medley with bulb fennel, carrots, celery, and sweet onion in ghee with no other seasonings! And I "mmmm'd" and "yumm'd" and "oh, this is good!" all the way through it. My hubby did the same (though he had ground buffalo instead of turkey).
And then I thought of this thread!

Thank you for the kind words. I am starting to enjoy food more now. Praise the Lord. For a long time I didn't feel good after eating just about anything. My stomach was not wanting to digest very well. And now it has been such a blessing.
I'm still very choosy about what I'm eating. And I'm still taking it slow adding new foods. And it's kind of a scary thing for me. And the problem is I always have a reason to not want to try something new if it makes me feel bad. Like I was planning on starting some new foods last night, then I found out one of my friend's from High School, his Dad died and I want to make the Visitation and Funeral. I might just go to one. But either way, I don't want to be all inflammed and feeling lousy from some new food I tried when I go. It's all in God's hands, but I don't want to do something stupid. I was going to make turnips tonight, but this present situation stopped me. I haven't eaten them in a long long time and the first time I did, I didn't eat very many. So, there they sit. Hopefully they won't go bad. But then there is Easter coming and a few days after that my wife is leaving town with the kids and I will be all by myself for 5 days. And I don't want to be feeling lousy while she's gone. So......
And then there is a part of me really missing foods that I used to enjoy, before having problems. I used to be a sweet tooth. Well, now I don't eat any sweet treats except dark chocolate. Anything else usually makes me feel pretty lousy. Too much sugar for me. Makes my heart race. Etc. And so many people I know will be on FB or something showing some marvelous Treat they're eating and I'm like. Grrrrrrrrrrr. Oh well. So many of the foods I can eat are really really good anyways, so, I should just forget about the cakes, ice cream, pies, pizza, candy bars, sub sandwiches, etc etc. But it has been hard to not really wish I could eat those things lately since I've been more hungry.
Well, I'm off to go put some frozen peaches in the oven!!! YUM!

Can you tell me what temp. and how long you put the peaches in the oven for?. Do you just have them plain or do you top them with something.
I bought a bag of frozen organic peaches at costco that i was planning on putting on my morning quinoa hot cereal. The thing is i don't like the consistency of them once they've thawed, their still alittle crunchy, i like them alittle softer. Maybe i can have start having them for desert instead of breakfast.
Thanks! Mickey

I've used anywhere from 350 to 400 degrees. I just watch them a little closer when I use the higher heat. Usually it's all about time. The hungrier I am, the higher heat I'll use. If you let them go too long on the higher heat, they'll start to have little burnt spots on them. But either heat will bring them to a nice, soft consistency. If you want them ALL to be soft, I'd go with a lower heat like 350 or 325 and let them go as long as they need. I find that some pieces will get softer than others, and I've figured out it's not just the size, it probably has to do with the ripeness of the peach. Because sometimes a bigger piece will be softer than a smaller one. I don't really know exactly how long. I just watch them. I guess on the lower heat it might be close to 20 minutes and more like 15 minutes on the higher heat. You just have to watch them. It's pretty evident. When you start seeing bubbles coming from juices oozing out of them, it's getting close or basically done. Just eat one and see if you like the consistency. Or poke them with a fork.
I do find that baking peaches to a degree makes them more digestable for me. I've never eaten frozen ones without some sort of cooking. Now fresh ones I'll eat raw. Yum. Or sometimes I'll fry them too. Depends on how juicy and soft they are. We haven't had good ones yet (fresh) for a while. Hopefully soon.
