I'm alittle baffled on this one.  My swami has listed both licorice root as a superfood under spices and licorice root tea under beverages.

I know that licorice root can raise blood pressure.  I checked that i have a history of heart problems and i also checked heart problems under family history.

Anyone know why it would be recommended for me?.

Thanks!
Mickey

It is possible that licorice is adaptogenic for your type...  Or maybe helpful for your type, while damaging to other types.  Most of the studies are done without regard to blood or pheno type...

I don't know why. I do know that Dr. D really likes to use licorice root for some reason. I've seen it recommended multiple times.

If you are going to take it be sure it is deglycyrrhized licorice.

I add a twig of licorice and ground cacao bean to my yerba mate daily, mornings......no low anything so far if you ask me!

little is better and spice up your life!

if licorice causes you distress, add less, or leave out altogether...once you reset, add a bit and write a food log, to note progress

Do you have high blood pressure?

If you have a monitor and try the licorice, you can watch it.  Or you can just get the DGL deglycyrrhized type...I think it has mostly all the same benefits.

I have low blood pressure, so I use regular licorice unless I have to take really large doses.

ABJoe,
Good point, i just don't want to take any chances of raising my blood pressure anymore so maybe for now i'll abstain.

CSharp,
I did check that i have a history of bowel/digestive problems, used to have IBS before i started the BTD and also had an ulcer along time ago.  But i don't know if using licorice root for something i don't have a problem with currently is worth raising my blood pressure for?.  Thanks for bringing this to light, at least maybe now i know the reasoning for it.

Thanks Spring!
I'll take this into consideration if i decide to try it.  My main reason for bringing this up is that i've noticed that some herbal preparations that i've considered buying had licorice root in it.

Melissa,

Yes i do have high blood pressure, i guess i never really indicated that in my post.

I don't have a B.P. monitor, so if i was to have licorice root i'd probably get the DGL deglycyrrhized as Spring mentioned.

Thanks all for your help!!!!

Doesn't plain licorice have benefits that DGL licorice doesn't have?

Mickey, when you check heart problems, there are so many more things that can be a problem, than High Blood Pressure.  I get heart arrhythmias every once in a while.  So, I checked heart problems.  And I also have low blood pressure from a neurological problem.  That falls in that category also.  Dr.D specifically told me once that licorice root is almost made for Low BP.  Or also a syndrome called POTS.  Which they diagnosed me with.  So.......

If you have high BP, don't drink licorice root tea.  In the other books, there is always an asterisk by licorice root and has the comment that if you have high BP, you shouldn't drink it.

Light Bulb Moment, Now i remember where i read it at!.  Though i probably read it in my health books to, but they don't take BT or Genotype into consideration.
