I have totally copied another member of the board by printing out the portions and their sizes. I mark off what I've eaten. So far, it's been been a great way of tracking what I'm eating. My problem is that some days I'm more hungry than the suggested portions. I could change the settings on swami but  don't want to allow myself too much food. So... If I am extra hungry, do y'all suggest fruit? veggies? meat? as a filler? I don't know which road to go down.

Thanks in Advance!

I suggest adding more veggies (beneficial, of course!).

I'm on the road to changing my eating habits, and I've found that I need to eat a good breakfast, eat a larger lunch, and a smaller dinner, and stop eating by 7:30 PM. No snacks, and a cup or two of Tulsi (Holy Basil) tea after dinner quells my late night snacking...

Are you breastfeeding either of your children? If you are, then you may simply need more food than SWAMI allows, and I'd suggest that you go ahead and re-run SWAMI with larger portions.

It's a good idea to run SWAMI with the larger portions anyway, just to have an idea of what it reccomends for your "hungrier" days. You don't have to have the larger portions daily- just on those days you seem to need it.

eat Super or Benficials and the rest should be ok..

when starting BTD then portions are not important.. only after we are comfortable with the food in the first place can we also worry about portions..

the body soemtimes just needs more food.. and the worst is ... IF ONE WERE to cut down on food, then the body adjusts and takes that as the new normal..

change foods around helps.. fruits are ok but choose the ones with lower sugar.. or more chewing.. sometimes we are not hungry but feel like chewing.. or have a drink or a smoothie,, trust that you are learning..

Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

Y'all are awesome! Thanks so much!

I dabble back and forth with BTD and then this past year with Swami. I am in the middle of a Diabetic scare (should get the test results tomorrow) in the middle of a plunge into Swami. Stilling to the portion guidelines has been ok, but working out certain days drives my hunger. I love food so cutting back is tough enough - I don't want to just eat to eat. Alright, I'm rambling. Just want to do it right and well.

Diabetes is my ongoing discussion.. look at If on apple a day.. post and see if any of those foods I will mention there are good for you..

I have been on BTD long enough to be able to 'cheat' a little with on avoid food for a while, but I DO NOT RECCOMMEND that for you..

Good luck on the diabetes thing.. is it your family?  I fight the label and I fight the idea that it must be.. so I will fight the best I know whith.. food..

I am slowly able to get from bad for diabetes food to less and less..  maybe I even found MY way to reduce MY cravings for emotional eating.. THAT would be a BIG THING.. ..

I reduced my levels by 1`/3 or better when I went on the extreeme diet to drop 20 pounds.. with HCG homeopathic drops.. I was ready to drop the weight.. but never EXPECTED the drop in all the other BAD numbers to almost normal in less than a month.. and they are staying there.. and actually still improving ...

this was controversial for some here, but might have saved my life.. and future health..

good luck..

You know, it seems like snacking is becoming practically a national past time- everyone seems to think having a snack is healthy or even necessary.  This wasn't the case when I was growing up.  Imo snacking is linked to Zone type mini meals- the idea that the best way to eat is 3 tiny meals and 2 snacks to "keep the metabolism going and prevent hunger".  Even if you eat "heathy" beneficials your blood sugar still has to do something with that food which is to elevate and stay out of fat burning mode.  Glucose in blood= elevated insulin & suppressed adiponectin (fat burning hormone) and leptin.

Thanks again y'all! I am still waiting on the results. I hope to hear something today.

Diabetes runs in my family. For my children, it runs on both families, so I want to start setting an example... it's just figuring out what that is.

I feel better eating real food (duh!) but our family habits are hard to break - the biggest deal.

Thanks again for y'alls input!

well somewhere there is a concept, that diabetes starts by having 'bad' intestines that blocks the Pancreas/Insuline from working properly.. NEW MEDICINE,, IF it turns out to be correct.. I am testing the theory.. that will be a great step in the right direction..

BTD is king for it.. to start with.. but becoming aware of the potential is importat and geno / swami does that better then most other things..

coming here will make all the difference as you learn the differences important to each blood type..!

Read my entry in '' If on apple a day.. thread.. interesting test posted there today..

Which meat did you have in mind? I'd rather go the beneficial route.

ps I forgot to say that once you have sorted out your correct foods, and stuck to them, exercise is the prime factor in weight loss in my experience. (within Swami guidelines of course).
Have you also looked at the Diabetic Control thread?

um...ok...

Meats would be according to Swami... Turkey, chicken, lamb and compliant fish.

I have been adding more exercise but not enough to see results. I have got to get more consistent!

I wouldn't recommend that with fruit, sweet drinks, or complex carbohydrates, while dealing with blood sugar issues. You are just going to be hungry for awhile till your body gets the message, and does the work.

Try more veggies and vegetable protein.

What are your diabetic scares Monti?

What scares me is having to change my definition of fun foods. I have a sweet tooth! Giving that up feels like a big price!

I have been eating all my fruit. I may need to adjust that!

My mom was Diabetic. She took insulin twice a day. I am seeing some of the same symptoms - Yeast, Demanding Thirst, Breath has a certain smell, and exhaustion. She passed away at 49- She was generally healthy other than being diabetic She took care of herself. That's too young for me! If that is truly what I'm dealing with - I want to deal with the specifics as careful as I can.

Swami, OK I didn't get all the posts read.  Are you drinking enough water? Sometime our bodies are asking for water, (or maybe you'd be happier with green tea or such)  I'd drink a glass of water, and wait 20min. if still hungry then look to veggies, or fruit. You can alway, eat your protein early or maybe half it. I've done that when I'm hungry before my husband gets home, save the 2th half for dinner with him.

Swami, 100% me..

I failed the glucose test. So I've been passed off to another doctor. So I'm taking this as fuel to be a stickler on my food intake. It freaks me out. However, I feel like I have tools to health. Thanks again everyone! I'll be back with more questions. I'm sure of it.
