Or Tanka bars


My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant.  Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index.  DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.

If you don't do honey, I'd think agave, veg glycerin or maybe a concentrate like blueberry, pomegranate or cranberry would work.

Well, Sahara, I think it would be pretty much a given that anyone who likes and eats Lara Bars is well aware that they contain carbs.   The reason I posted the link is because there are about a zillion variations that a person could easily use to lower the carb count. It seems pretty obvious that you could just about make something pretty good out of anything that you can get to stick together! I eat Unibars - myself about a fifth of one at a time! Satisfies me perfectly! But I think I will make some of those Lara protein balls. Be neat to have those around too, for a change. Anything that someone posts to get us thinking, thinking, thinking about how we can sail our own ship with less cost or less garbage is my cup of tea!!

I have a huge pail of rice bran from raw food cooking days that would be great to incorporate into these bars. One can also use cranberries and thus less figs/date/apricots. As for myself, it would not be something that I would eat on a daily basis, but when you are out and about, always great to have with you.

Sometimes I grind some eight/ten almonds in a coffee grinder, put that into a small bowl, with some chicory fiber, dried blueberries and flax oil, some genmaicha (roasted brown rice) for some crunch & flavour as a mid afternoon snack, of course, followed by a cup of green tea. I've been known to take this out with me as well along with a spoon in my purse.    (almonds are good for acid reflux, Edgar Cayce remedy states that a few almonds a day would help prevent tumours)!

I made some Lara bars today...Used a mixture of dried fruit (dates, figs, cherries, apricots, figs)...a little carob powder, nuts (walnuts, almonds) vanilla, cinnamon and some puffed millet.....They came out great as far as simulating a Lara bar.....just way too sweet.  I'm used to eating fresh fruit and it's mostly berries...Concentrated dried fruits were W A Y over-the-top too sweet for me!  I'd have to really be craving sugar to eat very much of this. Instead of making bars, I just pressed mixture into a
flat container....and can spoon out a few tsps at a time...

Sounds good to me.  I like the idea of this instead of jerky, which is often hard for me to chew.  And the meal bars with just dried fruit and nuts are too high in sugar for my taste.  I stopped eating dried fruit a couple of years ago, but could see it being just right in small amounts, with the dehydrated meat.

Does anyone have any tips for making protein balls or bliss balls without loads of coconut products? I attempted some lemon bliss balls today and they worked out pretty good... Used almond meal as the base. I like that they are so quick to make and are raw. I would love a choc peppermint bliss ball recipe

Ive never seen or eaten one before but when protein concentrate comes to mind.

Soaked Jujubes work just as well as dates for those who can't have dates; plus they are less sweet in taste.

I make cookies and patties for other stuff with sweet potato binder.

Yes i used whey protein concentrate - worked very nicely - I guess I am looking for the non-lara-bar type of 'bar' (as all the dried fruits don't taste that good to me all mixed up - too rich & sweet I think.)
