Any tips or advice on juicing ?

I was told by my naturopath that I should not eat too much raw and more lightly steamed or boiled due to my digestive system.

I love juice and would like to keep juicing and more of it, so any suggestions would be great

I would think go for it. I'm looking into this myself. I just got two books by Steven Bailey, ND-- Juice Alive and The Fasting Diet-- and low and behold Dr. D reviewed them both. Juicing is easy on digestion and the main reason I'm looking at it as I haven't been absorbing my nutrients. Also looking into colonics.

From the little I've read, he has great results with those with digestive issues, giving the system a rest and the nutrients and time to heal.

Most every day I drink carrot/celery/parsley/apple/beet juice.  Some days I add ginger and sometimes
I add spinach leaves.

I personally think our constitutional type dictates whether we can handle a lot of raw foods....In
Ayurvedic teachings, vata types are very cold and dry and don't do well on cold raw foods....especially
if they're out of balance...but I think it's important to have some raw foods so we can stay more
alkalized and gain the benefits from all the natural enzymes found in raw foods.  Although I enjoy
raw juices, I often will cook my fruits....baked apples and baked pears...especially in the winter.

I've never done juicing as a "fast"....only drink it away from foods and usually prior to eating a meal
that contains mostly cooked foods.

Blood type A people often become too acidic...which is easily overcome by eating more raw foods.

Balance would be my suggestion...some raw foods, some cooked.  The ratio would be based on your own individuality.  In the summer a larger percentage of my food is raw....I need the cooling effects of the raw, cooling foods when I feel overheated...but... in winter, my body craves more warmth, so too much raw makes me feel cold.

Tips or advice on juicing would be to read up on the types of juicers.....masticating, centrifugal
force, etc....and follow your beneficial food list for the best selections of produce.  I also like
to eat/drink veggies and fruits that are in season where I live.

Thanks, so glad to hear from other A's that juice, a Naturopath suggest BTD to me a few years ago, she is also the Naturopath that said I would do better on slightly steamed veg than raw.

I also have heard that Vata types don't do well on raw... and I am Vata.  I personally wont do a juice fast and agree with finding a balance, although I do go a few days with juices, salads and veg.

Thanks for the replies, today I juiced, Ginger, Apple, Carrot, Celery.  I do love beets and pineapple too, I also love green juices with kale but its doesn't agree with my stomach

I don't know that I would classify juice exactly the same as raw veg/fruit. The whole food has more lectins and also requires more work to process. Both have important enzymes that are destroyed in cooking. I just juiced carrot, beet, cucumber for the first time today. I couldn't eat a cucumber without stomach issues, but I seem to be doing well with the juice. Attempting to clear what I think is a gallstone....

Fresh pineapple juice (including the bromelain rich core) rocks! I'm pretty much realizing jarred, canned stuff is almost worthless.

Fresh apple juice can't be touched by anything I can buy at the store.
