I have been having trouble, off and on, with the end of my tongue being sore, with tiny rash-like bumps. It goes away for days, then comes back. I avoid all that is on my Swami avoid list plus everything else I know I'm allergic to. It comes and goes. Two nights ago I ate what I thought was a compliant salad with various greens (lettuces and spring mix), walnuts, dried cranberries, carrots, celery, olive oil and lime juice. A little while later the sore tongue reappeared. It sometimes happens with other foods but is not consistant. Any thoughts? The cranberries, carrots, celery, olive oil, and lime juice by themselves haven't caused me problems in the past. Could it be some sort of pesticide on the greens or walnuts? Anyone else have this probolem? |

Walnuts make my mouth sore too if I eat a lot of them. |

Hahah- how coincidental is that? Am eating walnuts while reading this and the edges either side of my tongue (at the back) are a little sore! Looks like walnuts are your culprit |

I get that sometimes, usually just one bump. My grandmother used to call it a "lie bump". |

Walnuts are a very good anti-viral food. Maybe they are fighting something for you. |

When I eat more than a tad of fresh pineapple it feels like it is digesting my tongue. I cannot taste any other food for at least thirty minutes afterwards. But I love pineapple. |

For some reason if the pineapple is ripe that doesn't happen to me so the really good ripe pineapple chunks that WFs sells fresh are fine. |

I had given up on fresh pineapple except as a snack when I'm not eating anything else for a while. But I will try some that are really ripe again and see how it goes! Thanks! |

Too much pineapple does the same to me as well...if I feel that soreness coming on, I lay off of it for several days & then it seems fine again. |

I know it isn't from pineapple because I haven't had any for a long time, due to my IgG4 test results that said don't eat for at least 4 months and then re-introduce it on a four day rotation. I haven't eaten walnuts since the other night and have not had the sore tongue, so that's probably the culprit. |

I think it is the high level of L-arginine in walnuts that causes the problem in some people. Or rather causes an imbalance of arginine and lysine. Anyone who is bothered with fever blisters probably have problems with eating a lot of walnuts. |

Thanks for the info, Spring. I never get fever blisters, but I do get a lot of canker sores if my stomach is upset(even before I know it) and anything with even a smidgen of sunflower anything makes the back of my tongue and throat break out in welts (the same thing penicillin does to my dad). |

I will definitely research foods that are high in L-arginine as I can get this at times also. Thanks for mentioning this. |
