I'm so glad to see this it is a great help, could it be posted in the support tab? PC I might have to call for changes as well. But I don't think it will change anything. Good news one year on GTD and I have one white line on right index. and one vertical line on left . So my gut is doing good. So what do I do about the vertical one? Swami will take care of that one. Right? |

I measured my upper leg incorrectly and had to have it changed this morning. Hopefully this will clear up some things for me. It put me back as an Explorer with significant food changes that make sense to me. Tea Rose |

Lower leg measurement in the video is a different measurement than what I have used for SWAMI and GenoType in the past.
In the past I measured the length of the fibula for my lower leg measurement. From one end of that bone to the other end of that bone.
The video measures something different. It says to measure from the base of the femur to the apex of the ankle. Section of the video in question is 12:00 - 13:15.
Is the way the video says to measure the lower leg what we are supposed to measure? Do I need to remeasure all my clients that a little bit longer lower leg would make a difference?

Kent, we learned this "new" way at the last IfHI conference. I believe it is the current standard, pointed out by Drs D and Partovi. |

I know they did the upper leg different at the conference. The goal was still to get the length of the femur.
At conference I was still under the impression that we were to obtain the length of the fibula for the lower leg. (The goal was the ratio of the length of the bones)
I may not have understood correctly at conference.
But since a number of board members were at the conference, hopefully others can confirm that the length of the fibula is no longer what we are after but the distance from femur to ankle. |

C sharp the question would be how are they doing with the diet they are on?
If they are struggling I might remeasure but if not I would probably leave it alone. |

yes, the protuberance of the fibula is where they are measuring in the video......trying to help people locate it best......not easy in some |

thanks for reply Lola. I'm very happy to untick it as it increases my choices.... I've looked at p73 again but I still don't see anything about horizontal versus vertical lines. It talks about secondary creases, I take it I'm supposed to infer from that the lines are horizontal - I didn't!! suspect I may not be alone on that...... |

The images on that video show horizontal white lines but it doesn't say that if yours are vertical you should ignore them - I think it would make the videos more useful if they were to actually state this fact, otherwise people will be clicking the box as I did, because they have white lines, not realising they are the wrong sort. Unless you already know that vertical ones are from a different cause, you are likely to be inputting incorrect data thanks for sorting me out on it, anyway! |

I thought i had this but am doubting myself again - Just to check the cranial measurements again. in the video it says about an inch above the ears. my widest point is at the top of my ears. does it vary? cranial length - In the video it seems say just below the hair line or there abouts. normally it is from the top of the nose or just above there. http://www.plagiocephaly.info/faqs/anthropometry.htmon this link it is "g" to "op" |

The most difficult thing I found in getting my measurements were the fingerprint classifications. I had quite a lot of lines so I'll have to go revisit that - hori/verti. Just from observation, there are verticals, but also angular/crisscross! I'm not sure if there's sufficient ink on the paper still (since my husband and I both used it). Where would we be able to get more inked paper? I wish there were more photos of differing patterns with the lines. It's really hard for me to decipher them with all of the lines going on! All and all I appreciate the visual presentation of the measurements. I think it would be a great idea to mention the video on the paperwork that comes with the kit. It would be a great tool to aid the person taking the measurements! Thanks so much! |

If you can not read them use the setting for composite the program will skim right over them until a later time when you can read them. Counting the deltas is easier then seeing the patterns. Just look up fingerprint deltas for photos of them.

It seems as if we will be scratching our heads until the end of time trying to get these measurements right! I got so tired of measuring, remeasuring and reremeasuring the first, second and third go arounds that I was sick to death of trying to get them right! But when I have time I will do it again. (sigh) I suppose unlocking SWAMI will keep someone busier than usual for a while.....

This is a helpful video. It looks like my lower leg may be longer than the upper based on these guidelines. But will probably watch again and try once more before making any changes. Very nice job, some things are easier to understand. |

Well I wish they would have had this out sooner. I think I'll redo the measurements for everything to be on the safe side. I'll get one of my kids to help me. Gynic or andric, This can be influenced by the Q-angle of the knee joint. I have an acute Q-angle, So when I put my ankles together the thighs are smooshed to gether even when I weigh a buck. But the finger meaurements can be maddening and finger prints. I am thinking about going to the police department and gettting them to do them and help me classify them. Good luck all. |

This is a helpful video. It looks like my lower leg may be longer than the upper based on these guidelines. But will probably watch again and try once more before making any changes.
Hi LIn, There was a post back in 2008 by Dr.Natalie Colicci who worked then at Dr.D'c clinic. She posted a photo showing exactly where to measure the lower leg, so here goes: The video shows you to run your finger along the groove to the side of your leg. There you'll feel a knobbly bone sticking out (when you press on it it can hurt quite a bit- that's the right one! It's roughly the same size as your ankle bone). Now, here's the important bit...measure from the TOP of that round knobbly bit to the CENTRE of your ankle bone. Dr. Colicci's diagram is VERY clear on this! You should be able to find this old thread somewhere- I have a print out of it...it was posted Jan 4, 2008 by paulam, title: "how to correctly measure my legs", posted in the Geno forum, Dr.C's picture was posted Jan 8. Hope that helps! |

Dr. Colicci's diagram is certainly clear. But her instructions are for measuring the length of a single bone. Eric's video recommends measuring from a point on one bone to a point on a different bone. Following Eric's procedure will always result in a measurement that is several centimeters longer than you get following Dr. Colicci's instructions and diagram. |

Which is more accurate? Or is the other leg bone measurement correspondingly different such that if yo use one measurement system for both measurements, you still get a correct ratio? |

Which is more accurate?
They are measuring something different. So it is not really a question of accuracy, it is what you choose to measure. I would prefer to measure lengths of bones, rather then arbitrary points on legs. But that is not how we are to do it now. Andrea is hired by IFHI, and does training at the conferences. She says to use the method on Eric's videos.

Well sort of. If you mix systems you get substantially different ratios, that change SWAMI (and GenoType results). If you follow the old system you get an approximation of the upper leg length that is sort of of it its total vertical height of the femur as measured standing as it normally would be in the leg. The new method gets the length of the femur measured sort of diagonally. This is several centimeters more than the old method. In the old method you measured the length of the fibula. In the new method you measure the length of the fibula plus a few extra centimeters. So the ratio are approximately the same if you add a few extra centimeters to the length of both the upper and lower legs. If you only add the extra length to one leg measurement and not the other this is going to change things. |

Thanks, C#. When I watched Eric's video, I realized that the upper leg measurement was different and redid that, which was significantly longer, but didn't realize that the lower leg measurement was different also...
Guess I'll have to rewatch the video so I know how to measure the lower leg to make sure whether I have the ratio correct... |
