I've run into a mental situation with my swami. My swami allows 5 meals a week of red meats at 5-7 oz, 3 meals a week of poultry at 5-7 oz and 6 meals a week of fish at 5-7 ounces. That's 15 meals of meat portions. If you I ate meat at breakfast lunch and dinner that's 21 meat meals. So that leaves me with 6 meat meals I'm not getting during the week. It does say I should eat 9 servings of eggs per week. Which I had not been eating eggs. But I just ate a little bit of one yesterday to get me back on them. So far so good. I have a cold and have had some pains and want to blame the egg, but I don't think that's it. So anyways.... Once I get more eggs in my diet, that's fine, and my vegetable portions I make up at snack times. So I can't really use them for protein.
I guess the one thing is that I don't usually eat 5-7 ounces. Most times it's just 4 ounces at a main meal. I have upped it a little sometimes lately. But it's typically around 4 ounces. So I suppose I could count all the ounces up on the high side and see if I'm not exceeding that. Eh? Does anybody else have this situation?

Don't forget your vegetable proteins. I noticed the same with my swami. Since I want to start it tomorrow I'm working on a chart. I will have some of the vegetable proteins as a lunch or breakfast. Most mornings I have an egg with 2 or 3 cups of veggies, when I have more time I'll have fish with the veggies. Most dinners will have meat, fish, or poultry, but I might get away with a veg/protein soup with just a little meat for flavor.

Jayneeo, I chose the more frequent/ larger portion selection on my swami, because I'm really underweight. But, before that I had almost as much meat. It was 4 red, 3 poultry and 5 fish. I think. But either way, it's what it says. I'm not making it up. If you want I'll post it.

Actually, I was wrong about the poultry. I get 4 servings at 5-7 ounces. So yeah, once I figured it up in ounces, I could eat 4 ounces of meat at breakfast lunch and dinner and have 16 ounces or so to spare for other times. And if I throw some eggs in at meals at times, I should be overly covered, meat wise. Sweet.

I used to have homemade sausage. But now I rarely have meat for breakfast.
My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer.
I have the opposite situation. Swami gives me ten 3-5 ounce portions of animal protein per week (3x red meat, 3x poultry, 4x fish), That isn't a lot. Even if I eat two meals per day, four of them should be meat-free. I eat eggs, nuts, and I have been making bone broth soups with loads of veggies, which I enjoy for lunch, and sometimes for breakfast, but I don't like to eat early in the morning. I have to be up a while to work up an appetite, esp. for a meat meal. If we're having breakfast out in a restaurant that serves turkey sausage (on a Sunday ordinarily) then I'd have meat at breakfast.
I've got 2poultry, 4x fish, 5x meat, 5x Vegetable protein, and 7 eggs. (all max) . I want to save at least 3 eggs for baking. Leaving me with 4eggs. We've been eating more poultry than this, so I'm really having a hard time to get this worked out. I found I do well on fish for breakfast. Fish and meat 3-5oz. and only 1/4cups of Veg protein. (Beans, nuts) 1 TB of the butters. I don't do very well with the butters, on spelt bread, or a rice cake for breakfast. and have been using that for afternoon snacks. Perhaps beans with the veggies for breakfast, like a warm bean salad? I'm kind of thinking out loud, but any views are helpful. I've got 20lbs I'd like to take off this winter so I really wonder if I should do the max amount or the lesser portion size.. I'm sure swami has already figured that in so maybe not.
There was a time when I'd forget breakfast, but I'm an O and I'm finding I really do better. I also need to even out my energy, lately I've been a slow starter, and early quiter not a whole lot of energy time between. Duh, isn't there a meal planner? I'll be back........
I haven't been eating eggs, that's why I went with meat at breakfast. They've been puny portions with some nuts following it up. But I think I'm going to up my portion of meat at breakfast, or do a combo of egg and small amount of meat. Or, just do an egg again. But I think because I'm so underweight, and my stomach is working well now, I'm needing / wanting to eat so much more than I used to. Even in the morning. I've never been a big breakfast person either, but I eat pretty late in the morning. So it's more like brunch.

JJR, I don't think you should worry if you find yourself going over SWAMI reccomended portions for now. You've been underweight a long time and need to "catch up." It's likely that your appettite will decrease a little once you've acheived a healthy weight. For you, look at SWAMI portions as minimums, not maximums.

I still struggle with fears about food. I think it's the whole you're going to have a heart attack if you don't take this drug for high cholesterol on the TV commercials all the time type thing. Or, there is something inside me that doesn't want to let me indulge too much like it's going to kill me, or hurt me. I'm not sure where that is coming from. Like I've been real anal about making sure I don't really eat more than a 1/4 cup of nuts at once. Just because it seems like it's the recommended amounts on all the packages and my calorie calculator. Like somehow the packages know that if you eat more than 1/4 cup at one sitting, you're going to have a stroke. I'm not sure what the fear is, but it's there. I'm dealing with these fears with counseling, but it's a part of what my mind is dealing with. But I'm learning to push the boundaries and find out that it's OK!!! Everything is OK. God is good, he's in control, and I need not fear. He calms the seas, etc etc. I know that's my perspective of God, but it helps me. I mean no disrespect in that regard to someone elses beliefs.

My meat is needed at lunch and dinner or I keep eating all day....
morning it's 1 egg... (for 30 years it was 2) I wish it could be more then one per Swami.. but I understand.. so now the question is what else to eat with it.. a vegetable would be nice.. like yam, but I have not done that as a routine.. I was afraid of the carbs,but now they say to have a little carb with protein, to digest better, I might add a slice of yam..
or I might start to add 1 scoop of Dr D's protein powder to one raw egg and blend it with a canned plum to cover the taste.. I did that yesterday and was ok with it for a while..
But my portion is not that of a young man.. what I wrote is just what I do.. NOW as I am older and most likely need 50% less food... a bummer.. I like to eat and feel hungry if I try to eat less..

Quite often the food manufacturers settle on a portion size that makes the nutrition information "look" good... I've stopped looking at the nutrition information for myself, (I still look at the ingredients), just trusting that the body will tell me when it has had enough. You're getting there, just keep eating and doing good.
Any bugs are much smaller than you are and with your gut getting better, they will have a hard time getting established, even if they get in.
Thank you joe. My mind just doesn't like to forget things in the past. Like times when I've eaten something and it really messed with me. I need to forget them and focus on now and the future. But your wisdom is totally comforting.
Amazone, I totally feel more energized if I have some kind of refreshing fruit, and some kind of good protein in the morning. I remember one week I was eating a small peice of lamb in the morning and it was like BAM, made me feel good after eating it. I didn't have a lot then though. Lamb is one of those where I feel like it's really good for me, but if it's real real fatty, I don't want a bunch of it at one time. I'm not sure if that's mental or physical. I'm learning to welcome the fats a little more mentally, but I'm not sure if a bunch of it is all that great all at once either, physically speaking. But my stools have not been floating any more, since I've upped my intake of food. Weird. It was like when I was starving myself, my stools were floating all the time. Now they're not.

I'm surprised that a nomad would get that much meat...I don't even eat that much meat...
Me neither! I have about the same meat recommendations in my Swami and I'm not even close to using up all the meat portions.
Because when I did, I felt sluggish and tired. When I replaced more meat meals with meals with allowable grains and veggies, my energy sprang back.
I don't east breakfast until almost 11a. I can't eat for atleast 3-4 hours after I get up. I guess I'm more of a brunch person.
I break up my breakfast in two parts. I like the live food enzymes to be eaten first to prepare my stomach for the harder stuff.
For breakfast part 1: I start with a green smoothie in a blender (usually collard leaves & mango & water)
Then breakfast part 2: is two eggs scrambled with olive oil with 2 cups of brown rice spiral pasta. Then I place that scramble on top of a bed of mixed greens.
You guys know I chose the more frequent/ larger portion option on my swami. It upped my red meats and fish 1 more time in weekly frequency and the ounces went from 3-4 to 5-7. But I did it because I'm severely underweight. It's a whole different thing than trying to lose weight.
But let me ask you O's this, am I really getting more meat frequency than you O's? It must be a Nomad thing I guess.

Hi JJR, Your meat portions are very similiar to mine. I selected the same option as you on Swami and would like to gain a few pounds (I am coming to the realization that 115 pounds at 5'7 is normal for me). The only difference is I am allowed 7 fish and 10 eggs. Recently I started eating meat and veggie soup for breakfast and am loving a warm bowl of soup in the morning.
I so feel for you on the fears and phobias. I can also relate to your faith that all will be well and this is the best attitude you can take. My first serious relationship with God came at 18 years old when I was suffering from panic attacks and fears of everything (including choking on food) and no one understood. He has been my friend ever since! Clearing my mind every day and feeling that deep connection helps me stay on track, or you could say meditating for 30 minutes. The years following were high and low but eventually I got a grip on things and am now in control. You will be too!
