As of recently I have found many foods that influence my hunger and make me hungrier!
Ginger/ peppermint tea Nuts and butters especially on an empty stomach Too many carbs, even too large of a green salad Organic turkey bone broth
Foods that stabalize my hunger Protein Good fat moderate veg ( I COULD eat tons at a sitting, had to back that down) seltzer |

Isn't that interesting? I have certain foods like that, too. Apples are one of them for me. I don't even really like apples EXCEPT right now when the Honeycrisps are out. I can easily predict that eating a whole apple will make me hungry and will lessen the hunger-calming properties of foods that are otherwise great for me. For instance, almonds and almond butter are one of my very best hunger-quelling foods. But if I eat an apple with almonds or almond butter, I'll still be hungry afterwards or will be hungry again really quickly.
Funny how that works! |

That is common. Ginger and peppermint promote hunger/digestion, and carbs usually make anyone hungrier (blood sugar, I guess). I'm not sure what's up with nuts, but they make me hungry too. Protein and fat help stabilize blood sugar, and seltzer can have a filling effect from the gas. Although, for some people it has the opposite effect. |

Not sure with the nuts either but it drives me crazy. It's kind of hit or miss. Usually better with a meal rather than as a snack. sometimes EVOO just doesn't cut it. Bananas make me STARVING even with one bite. Too bad as I do like them. Apples are kind of filling for me but don't et a lot of fruit because of the sugar. Love it with almond butter. |

Apples definitely make me hungry! and fruit in general. I've also noticed that I can't drink green tea because it gives me the hunger shakes, but it sometimes comes in handy if I feel overly full. Rice cakes are another hunger provoking food, unless I pair them with lots of avocado. I think I would rather eat a bowl of freshly cooked rice or buckwheat as opposed to rice cakes or buckwheat crispbreads. I'm definitely a volume eater |

when I eat fruit, it's a bit crazy. I actually cut and section a grapefruit and put it in a covered bowl in the fridge and have one or two sections after dinner to satisfy my sweet tooth. If I eat an apple, I take one or two bites and give the rest to my hubby. Blueberries are 6 or 7 after dinner but they really don't fit the sweet nitch like grapefruit. Strawberrries are usually dark chocolate covered and a treat very occasionally in the summer. I would rather ditch the rice cake and eat the avocado right out of the shell! If I have a crunch craving it's 2 Mary's gone crackers w almond butter. I am so much better eating in this quantity of carbs other than veg than trying to ration. It's enough to satisfy a sweet tooth but not enough to start the roller coaster. |

I've recently found that eating too much at once can stretch out my stomach and make me hungrier. I'm trying to cut down the volume of veggies in my breakfast so I don't get cravings later in the day, and so I'm satisfied with less food at lunchtime.
Fruits are always a tough one for me. I only get half a cup a day per SWAMI, and that's just not enough. I can skip the fruit altogether, or I want enough to fill me up. I seem to be eating about a cup of fruit (with some nuts) every other day. Or I can have some dried fruit with nuts as a snack, and that's satisfying. Fresh fruit is just harder to eat in small portions. Even if I'm able to share with DD1 or put half in the fridge for another time (so the fruit isn't wasted) I just can't feel satisfied eating a small amount.
I get 2 servings of grains per day, and I usually have them both at dinnertime. Some days I eat only one portion. Eating carbs earlier in the day just leaves me hungrier. |

too much at once is huge for me, no matter what the food is. I can almost feel the insulin rush in and makes me hungry!!!! I just eat small and often. I call it fuel as I go. My engine does not like a full tank. |

raspberries and pineapple. And apples for me too. Most fresh fruits. Except for some reason peaches seem to fill me up good.
Yeah, rice cakes sometimes make me hungry. Like, is that it? |

Oatmeal for breakfast has always given me a blood sugar crash shortly after eating it and a feeling that I have not eaten yet. |

I have a similar list. I would add green tea & coffee to the "increases hunger" list and Begal Spice tea, carob & cocoa powder, cinnamon and cayenne pepper to the stabilize. |
| My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer. |

I've found this to be true for me, too. But I think I'm experiencing something different. My sensation is more a craving that comes about right after eating while I'm still full. I think the digestive system becomes overloaded and requests more energy to do its job, so it signals the brain for more food. |

Apples are neutral for O secretors but an avoid for O nonnies like us. They're beneficial for Explorers. They're actually a superfood for my O (assumed secretor) Explorer daughter! Seltzer is beneficial for O's in general, but of course individuals may have individual reactions. |

I might have to try seltzer again. I used to drink it a long time ago. But haven't in a long time. Maybe it will help me eat more. |

Eating too much on one sitting is worst offender for me but just this week I have realized rice cakes make me want to eat earlier than usual. What I have observed with the rice cakes, as with gluten containing grains is that, when an ingredient makes me feel bad I want to eat sooner. I wonder if it is my body wanting to start digestion again to help eliminate the offensive item |

Great posts. Apples are not an option for me. I used to eat them all the time, but now, could care less.
Very interesting about the veggies. I could eat them allllll day, but I always forget they are carbs as well.
My biggest issue is sitting down to eat and not munching on the veggies the entire time before I sit down to eat the salad.
Fruit is general imposes digestive issues for me unless I eat it at night. |

Yeah, on my journey here, some dietician lady said I should eat my meats before any veggies. Because your enzymes are highest then. But I find that the practice of eating a small salad before your meat portion, like they do in steak joints and such, it seems like the lettuce sort of invigorates my stomach acids and get them going for the main course. That's how I feel about it. |

Rice cakes are a food that I only eat topped with some fat and protein, as in almond butter, ghee/nutritional yeast, a one-egg omelet, melted manchego, etc. |

I can do fine some days before I eat.. then if it is anything but eggs I am hungry. Getting upset over anything, even mildly, seems to trigger wants.. I never thought of drinking coffee or cocoa would matter, I think they keep me satisfied, especially if I allow some cream or coffee mate.. I can drink it all day.. BUT that MIGHT be a craving, for something other then water. I forget about water, should try at least 20 min before eating... Then the rest of the foods better have protein along with other foods or I am never satisfied.. I don't really see my issues as cravings, other then when I see sis's fridge, then all bets are off.. or sometimes ice cream or chocolate, but I can eat them in pieces, ___ MUCH ___ less then I used to be able to allow me.. chocolate ice cream satisfies, all other flavors don't - but sometimes driving past the gas station with the best icecreamcones is difficult... There is a place where they make home made.. when they are open I can resist on the way down, on the way home it is much more difficult - but when they are closed for winter, I can drive by no problem.. SO: I think I get triggered NOT so much by the stomach, but by the brain ... |
