I've been urged to start counting my calories and make sure I'm getting enough. 2000 was the recommended I think it's probably needed in my situation. I tracked them yesterday and I'm nowhere near that.
I really need some high calorie, nutritious, healthy food ideas. I eat a good amount of veggies and fruits to keep things moving in the ole plumbing, but probably not enough other things to support me. And my stomach can only take so much. So.....
If you all have any good ideas for me, that's great. With the caveat that I'm not going to eat junk food. I don't do wheat or sugar. And dairy is out for now.
I'm open to recipes for breads and such though, as I can use rice flour, oat flour or spelt. Or things like that. I'm craving walnut bread for some reason. Just something I have stuck in my head I guess.
Thank you for your help!

It's a good idea not to eat anything "plain"; always add stuff - oil or ghee to veggies, nut butters to breads/crackers, etc.
Is this just about calories or is the goal weight gain? If it's weight gain, then a good balance of fats, carbs, and protein is important. Upping carbs generally causes the fastest weight gain.

can you look at your neutral foods? I think they would add up quickley...
When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfectionBeing 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships
And yeah, I'm not adverse to eating neutrals at all. I've been eating beef and it's only neutral.

Oats that aren't cooked don't really digest well for me.
Sahara, no dairy. I said that above.
This is it????? I'm in trouble. Yeah, I have some nuts and almond butter. I am kind of like afraid to eat just tons at one sitting. I think it's just because I'm not used to it. I need to increase in amounts that won't send my into some kind of weirdness. I have to keep telling myself "I'm not sensitive, I'm not sensitive". But the thought of downing a whole tablespoon of any kind of nut butter just doesnt' sit right with me. I have eaten a lot of whole nuts at once though. I'm not sure what the big difference is in my mind.

So sorry JJR, my bad. As for the almond butter, just do it! Open the jar and scoop it out in to a bowl. It is high calorie but low in carbs so so long as you keep carbs under control you should be OK. Why no dairy? A glass of kefir sweetened with stevia would be just perfect.

I like almond butter on banana. Reminds me of my favorite peanut butter and banana sandwiches when I was a kid. Obviously, I skip the bread and put the almond butter directly onto the banana. Not sure if you can have banana, but as I recall it is ok for most BT's? This is my favorite high-calorie snack.
Dairy stops me up. And the soft dairy makes me feel awful. Maybe someday, but not quite ready for that. Especially kefir.
Can't have banana's but have eaten a half of a plantain here and there. Almost too much sugar in them for me. I need to actually make them when they're not black ripe. I used to just let them get super ripe and eat them like a banana. But I should try and do them less ripe and deep fry them or roast them or something. I bet it would be good with some nut butter. OR meat for that matter.

I'm a major fan of almond butter. It's a fantastic comfort food and source of calories. However, I wouldn't eat it to excess because it is high in Omega 6, which can be inflammatory if it overbalances the Omega 3 in your diet. Eat it, enjoy it, just have a glance at your SWAMI recommendation for nuts. I exceed mine a little, but it's a balancing act.

Yeah, my swami doesn't want me going overboard on the veggie proteins. It's hard not to without eating dairy though.

Halva is a great high calorie snack- (crushed sesame seeds with grape juice) if you can get it where you are-or order off net. It's around 500 cals for a little bars worth. Also dark chocolate is quite fatty, nuts and seeds- as many others have mentioned. I do a lot of baking using nut/seed flours and walnut oil-I have a blender with a flour mill attachment to make my own flours-so that is an idea if you don't really enjoy eating nuts plain. I just looked up on typebase that you can't have duck eggs or meat on the AB diet-I was going to suggest those coz they're both fattier than chicken/chicken eggs. When you eat chicken though-get with skin on coz thats the fattiest part, and with red meats you could eat the fatty parts and run off fats/grease in a gravy/sauce for extra calories.
Well, actually, you can have some red meat on the AB diet. Like Lamb and rabbit I believe. But I'm not on the AB diet. I'm a Nomad on my swami and I'm supposed to eat red meats 4x a week. So, I've been doing that the last couple of months and I think it's good.
Sweet potatoes seem to have quite a bit of goodness and calories. I just had some with lunch.
Regular potatoes do too. I had one last night. Yukon Gold. I do eat some potato chips from Panera on friday nights and I can't believe how much calories they have. My wife bought some healthy ones with just olive oil and I need to try those.

You need to do what fat people do. Get a big bowl of whatever you choose, turn on the t.v., and zone out while eating handfuls of stuff while you watch your show. Also, it helps being a nonnie in order to be fat. I have nothing to report for myself as far as being able to lose weight on this diet....so imitate ME.

Eat more meals... I've been eating eggs and steamed carrots for breakfast, a big bowl of oatmeal, cinnamon and apple sauce @ about 10AM, steamed vegetables and fish(I also add some mozzarella cheese on the veggies!) for lunch, nuts and or fruit for afternoon snack, turkey, vegetables and rice for dinner - and sometimes snack later just for good measure... Detox and healing takes a LOT of energy (for us AB Nomads), so don't skimp!
Thank you Joe. It's about what I do but I need to increase my portions. I think in the back of my head I've always been worried about eating too much meat because my cholesterol was high. But I need to get over that. Oils too. I remember you saying the sugars and such are more about that many times. Which I think is correct. Because it had gone down over 100 points since I've been on this diet. But I wasn't eating a lot of red meat at the time. So.... It's still in the back of my head. But I sure don't eat any refined sugars.
Seraffa, too funny! Everyone's struggles are different I guess. What makes us all unique. I don't know how to zone out and eat right now. I was thinking that same thing the other day how in the old days I could watch a movie, and eat a ton of buttered popcorn and not think twice about it. Popcorn doesn't sit well with me any more, and it probably shouldn't as an AB. But whatever.
This is what I ate yesterday and it totalled 1400:

I need to increase in amounts that won't send my into some kind of weirdness. I have to keep telling myself "I'm not sensitive, I'm not sensitive". But the thought of downing a whole tablespoon of any kind of nut butter just doesnt' sit right with me.
First let me preface this by saying it is shared with the best of heartfelt intentions.
I used to be very sensitive to all kinds of foods, chemicals, smells, etc. I found it extremely limiting and I too, was quite a bit underweight from it. I was afraid to eat anything I *might* have a reaction to. One day, after living this way for many years, I realized that it was no way to live. I also realized that I had trained my mind into hyper-vigilance of any sensation that fell out of my prescribed view of 'normal'. So part of my healing involved forcing myself to eat foods that I was afraid of and then distracting myself away from searching for weird sensations as a result. I soon discovered that many of my unpleasant reactions were mostly created in my mind and were not actually my body's experience at all. If I looked for weirdness or anticipated it, it was there. So I am sharing this here in response to the quote I copied into the post. From that quote, I infer there is some awareness that your beliefs around food may be impacting your experience. Again... shared with the best of intentions and from my own experience with a similar issue....
