Hi all,
Some food puzzles me as to why they are avoids:
1. Soy - I understand that it can mess up O women's hormones / periods? How about for non secretor, Explorers? 2. Vanilla 3. Almonds and Walnuts - I'm bummed that the only nut I can eat now is the Chinese chestnut... the others are out for me.
And these beneficials:
1. Seltzer water 2. Peppermint Tea
Can someone shed light on these food? Much thanks! |

I am an O-Explorer and both the non-secretor and secretor SWAMI print outs gave me almonds, walnuts, pecans. |

I am in between Explorer & Gatherer & seem to do better avoiding all nuts at present... Certainly, even if I don't react, I do not lose weight when I consume them |

Lola, I did run the SWAMI report and I have listed these avoids from it.
Dianne, in that case, there must be some criteria I have selected that exclude almonds, walnuts from my "can eat" list. |

Yeah just that I wonder why it would be good for me. Quite ironic since I don't have a taste for carbonated water. But hey in the spirit of being adventurous, I am chugging down one now!
Same goes for peppermint tea. |

I think you listed a health issue that causes the changes.. The clearest I would think is either liver or gallbladder, the one is aggrevated by the other and the foods would stimulate those issues.. take out all issues and add one at a time then just look at the 'nuts' to see when it changes since most O' s can have nuts..
Soy and vanilla are avoids for all O's I think.. so there is no need to experiment with them..
I use neutrals and avoids as the occasional cheat, in that way I can have some things but need to be careful about the amount. Like one sliver of cake is not going to kill me, but a slice will create reactions. when I do that I am fully aware of the price I pay.
Another way I test something is this way: I eat one avoid to its max for a day and then see over night how stuffy I am.. Test completed since my body reacts INSTANTLY..
This might take on hour to do but then you know the answers created by your BODY and your knowledge about it. I would love to know what moves the nuts....................... |
| When I see other peoples medicines schedule-I am happy to be here taking care of my health I only wish to drop weight more easily-life would be perfection Being 'here' creates understanding. BTD prevents damage from eating avoids. Thanks Dr D & your sups - all support and friendships |

Soy and vanilla are avoids for O non-secretors on BTD, so many O nonnies don't get to eat them on SWAMI either.
Peppermint tea tends to be good for digestion. Seltzer decreases stomach acid- something that's very good for Os with lots of stomach acid, but bad for A's who already have too little stomach acid.
I have seltzer as a diamond, but I don't really like it so I don't drink it much. I don't really like "buying water", carbonated or otherwise, and lugging it home from the store, but tea leaves are much lighter to carry! Peppermint tea is neutral, so I have it once in a while, but it's not a staple. |

Thanks Goldie and ruthiegirl for your tips and answers to what makes these food avoids/beneficials!
I may want to try the "stuff myself to max" thing for soy. It's such an integral part of the Chinese diet and I found it very hard to take it out.
Too frequently I find that the diet, BTD or SWAMI, feels restrictive in what I can have. While I have good memories of trying new food that is good for me, I have removed so much avoid food from my diet that it has become pretty restrictive and I feel miserable on it. A good number of the beneficials and neutrals are not available here. Used to do a 80% beneficials and 20% neutrals with very few avoids but I've scaled up my neutrals and allowed in some avoids though not the major ones like wheat, corn and diary. |

seltzer helps balance our high IAP levels.....it is soothing to our digestive tract and gut......as opposed to As which of Dr D s books have you already read? I suggest you read ERFYT and then LRFYT, just for educational purposes.... glad you are now following your swami......great move! |

Hey Lola, I have all 3 books and have been starting up on reading them. Hence my lack of knowledge on the food lists. I was told by my naturopath to follow the O BTD a year ago to treat my eczema and candida, and it was only when I have read about SWAMI and Genotype on the forums then I have decided to go up to SWAMI. Although my naturopath thinks that the BTD is easier to follow. |

Hey Lola, nope I am not. Who is the Master IFIH and BTD restaurant you are refering to in Singapore? For the shop, I guess you are refering to My Type. Don't know who Caline is. |

That's good! Peppermint tea, even though it tastes yummy, is actually a medical tea (yes, digestion and colic) and should not be taken long term! PS: Vanilla is a SWAMI neutral for me, just checked, but then... I am a secretor |
