Hi,

this should NOT be a new topic, but I want to ask something again (as I quite often do, I'm sorry): why to avoid something that many people consider healthy.

I'm sure there are negative effects in black pepper since SWAMI marks it as an avoid. But surely there are positive, too! Otherwise so many wouldn't recommend it warmly.

Black pepper obviously should
-boost digestion -> diminish flatulence
-help body to break up fat tissue
-make the effect of curry/turmeric a thousand(!!) times better!

As we know, turmeric and curry use to be excellent for inflammation and good for brains.

Mother told me that when she put pepper mix to mushroom soup, he got a lot of energy. There were organic rosé, green, black and white pepper in the mix. Well, rosé and green pepper should be neutral if not mentioned

Fresh ground black pepper can be ok according to BTD, but SWAMI mentions nothing about this:

When they talk about black pepper being an avoid, they are talking about the one in the can or jars.

The pepper that you grind in a pepper mill before each use, is fine.  Just don't want to add mold to the body.

Thank you very much geminisue! Do you have black pepper as an avoid in SWAMI?

My "best avoided" spices are arabic gum, cornstarch, guarana, mace, nutmeg and pepper, black.

-Very good if the avoid status of black pepper for O types is mainly because of mold.

-I understand mace and nutmeg, I don't need them
-I understand arabic gum as additive (what about xylitol chewing gum with that and many other additives?)
-I understand cornstarch, partly because GMO
-I partly understand guarana. Is it too stimulating maybe?

I would be very pleasantly surprised if black pepper is an avoid only if it is pre-ground - surely it is an avoid in any form??? Wouldn't all things be avoids if they had mould on them?

Pepper is an avoid on my Swami as well and I wondered if the rules were the same if it was fresh ground.

I can be pretty neurotic about my food choices but I am able to get sliced grass fed roast beef fresh at the deli and it has some black pepper on the edges. This is so convenient and I am hoping a few grains won't be too bad.

Lola, I bet you will say cut the edges off! Sometimes I do, depending on how it is sliced.

Ladyhawk- how it is explained is black mold is not on the pepper corns, and when it is ground using a pepper mill right onto the food, your going to eat, it doesn't have a chance, to mold.

acacia (arabic gum)
chili powder (cumin, can be used here)
cornstarch (I understand arrowroot can be used, or cream of tartar & baking soda)
guaroma
mace
nutmeg
pepper,black are all avoids in the spice area, on my swami


black pepper was avoid on my BTD & on my GTD and also on my SWAMI X, but I take that to mean I can use the peppercorn, in the pepper mill, If I desire, to use it.  ( I am a big user of cayenne pepper, so I don't concern myself, with black pepper)

I thought that, on BTD, pre-ground black pepper was an avoid for all, but fresh peppercorns (such as whole cooked in soups or sauces, or freshly ground onto other foods) was neutral for all. (or most anyway- I only ever looked at O and B foods.)

I also thought that "pepper, black" listed in SWAMI already assumed you're not using the ore-ground stuff, so if you get black pepper as an avoid, you're supposed to avoid ALL forms of black pepper.

Dadamo's Personalized Nutrician suggestions in everything are just that..

Suggestions that come with avoid warnings are just that..

In th end we need to decide for our selves on the yes or no  AND TAKE responsibility for it to work as we interpret it or not.

I chose for years to eat icecream.. not always not always often, and I don't know if I did harm or good.. now Swami said I could have milk, so I could say that my iceream is milk, and that I actually did my self some 'good' by having had some chocolate icecream for all my life on BTD..

I had it most often with nuts and a small cone.. I could justify that its a little nut protein and the cone is grains.  I think I can make that case..

BUT CAN I MAKE the case that if PURCHASED in a store that I know what else is in it.. I THINK NOT!..

That then becomes my responsibility.. decided to stop having it more often do to sugar issues, and in my self defence to my alter EGO:  I buy it only in the size of a cone, not a half gallon, I have only a small scoop, and only sometimes..  

So I choose to deal with some of what might be avoids.. and might eat/like it even in defiance.. BUT the ONE THING I CAN NOT DO is to say it is 'PART OF Dr Dadamo Personalized Nutrician PLAN>>

I take resonsibility for my own actions, decisions, and consequences.. AFTER THAT I am also responsible for my not losing weight, my having indigestion or worse, and on inability to follow something blindly.. I seem to want to test at least this one aspect of the suggested diet and see what happens the day after.. diareah might be one of those.. so do I learn from that, or keep asking my self: why do I CHOOSE to do the avoid 'TESTING' in my own body!!??  Is the EXPERIMENT worth it??  

after that maybe I could make my own fresh clean uncontaminated icecream.. the effort of doing it might be offset  of calories, or at least I would know what is in it..

Pepper corns you grind at least has nothing else in it.. so the 'issue' might have merrit.  Ask: is it worth it to experiment on YOU.. ?    


Being here is invaluable, but not enough. We need ALL the Doctors. I needed them for a very small cancer spot-I could never feel!!! Please do your mammograms! Doing so saved me from cancer later on. I am grateful! Thanks for learning from my experience! I was lucky! I wish the same for YOU!

I have avoided pepper for years.  I really missed it at first.  I wouldn't use the "freshly ground" peppercorn either because it seemed to me mold could grow on the bottom of the pepper grinder from the last time I ground it.  Maybe could have cleaned out my pepper grinder each time.  Recently, I reasoned that I could use a mortar and pestal, wash it each time with soap and water and be reasonably safe from mold.  I have done it once in the six months I have had the mortar and pestal.

Lola, it's deli meat already cooked that they slice. Perfect over a salad, grass fed and organic! I was thrilled to discover my market was carrying this item. Unfortunately, it's seasoned with pepper! Organic pepper but that makes no difference.

I rather season my own

even the restaurants I visit, they know they need to hold the spice mixes on my chunk of whatever meat I want to order......and I choose places where the grill is visible, so I have no surprises....

yep, I definitely am not an easy customer.....but I am a good person!!!

Aside from a little pepper, it would be perfect.

Ingredients: organic grass fed roast beef, rubbed with sea salt and organic pepper

I'm not one to cut corners and I cook up a storm but this is an occasional welcomed convenience. Too bad they added pepper!

if you look closely,
in recipe central, freshly ground pepper is rated for BT

so I take this ti mean, that the rating in our swamies, for pepper, refers to freshly ground, cause mold, (in the case or store bought preground pepper)wouldn t be good for anyone

I'm a bad person, i know , but if i didn't have allergies or sinus problems, which I don't, I'd welcome the convenience occassionally and rationalize it that all those great fat ratios and being grass fed , organic, affordable and convenient would outway a little pepper. grant it, i'd probably flick what i could off but... I'd still eat it! Actually, what brand is that??

I really don't miss black pepper for the sake of taste. I like chili, cayenne and even green pepper! (is that after all better than black pepper since it is immature black pepper? and is there difference between fresh ground green pepper and a curry blend containing ground green pepper?)

But I return back to my original claim. I prefer the healthiness of the food to the taste. I find many sources in Finland that take this seriously:

But there are different purposes for BTD ant GTD, that's why there are different supers and avoids in them

Those articles (I mean one in the wikipedia) admit that there are bad stuff in black pepper, too, but there is also the light side of the spice. Many people here in my home country think that the most important when eating is

-quality
-many-sided food

Very strict attitude suits to some people - like me maybe - but not to all. Listening to yourself is the most important to study your body, but that's familiar in this BTD/GTD/SWAMI attitude, too

There is nothing about freshly ground black pepper in my Swami, it just mentions black pepper as an avoid, so I avoid it.  I'd love to know WHY it is an avoid, maybe something to do with inflammation (?).  I don't miss it, I never liked black peppercorns all that much - I always found black pepper irritating.  I get whatever little bit of heat I need from red pepper flakes or chili, which are neutral for me.

Black pepper is an avoid for me too and I rarely used it anyway so I don't care about it at all.  What I do miss is there are no hot peppers allowed on my swami.  No jalapenos, chiles, habaneros, nothing.  Just bell peppers are allowed.  I love hot spicy food and that is a huge adjustment for me.

I used to love black pepper and used it liberally.  However, my family always joked about the fact that I have "small pipes" and that often times food would make my throat close and I would choke.  Once I stopped using the black pepper because of the BTD/GTD all that choking mostly went away.  I guess I must have been having an allergic reaction to the black pepper, even though I never really connected it.  I did notice that if the pepper was ground too large, that it would cause my throat to close.

Giving up pepper was a great thing for me, as I can now eat without choking!
