On the Swami Xpress is a choice for ethnicity. To the best of my knowledge my ancestors came from Denmark, Germany, and Ireland. What is the best choice for Swami as there is not a Northwest Europe choice..?
Thanks!

Hi Golfzilla,

If you can't fit into one of the pre-set categories, you can run SWAMI with a few of the closest choices of ethnicity and then compare.

I would like to see the map Dr. D used to define the ethnicities. In a link or drop down?

Or a list of countries for each ethnicity.
American mutts are hard to define sometimes.

I guess that would help but the only choices are Northern Europe, Central, Southern, or Western...
My ancstors are Dutch, German, and Irish~

I see those all as North-Western Europe but agian that's not a choice...

I would then follow my fathers line if I where a male and my mothers if I where a female , or I would trace the blood type of my parents and go with  the parent who I share the blood type of ?

But I wonder how far you should go back

I have done some family searching and I wasnt surprised to find some east European blod in my dads family cause we always said
He looked like a cossack   and I got my B from his side of the family.
But we are speaking about my  great great grandmothes family around 1800

While I know my mums family came from Germany, Norway and maybe Switcherland around 1700
- but I still look at myself as Scandinavian
while I know I am fairly unual in Denmark as a B rh-
only 2 %

Interesting reasoning.

Up to now, I've used the option "Western European" thinking of my mother's ancestors coming from France. But I have my father's blood type and he is originated from the very middle of Switzerland (near Bern). Would you call that location "Central Europe"?

And, Andrea, congratulations for having found informations about your ancestors as far back as around 1700. I suppose it represents a lot of work.

Just to your parents they are the most important.

Just click on 'Buy the kit'.
buy two kits, one for mitochondrial one for Y chromosome, and you get your whole ancient history gene linkage!!
fascinating!

swami has a box for those results...

To your parents ethnicity..isn't that what this thread is about?

My parents may have been born in the US,  but my mom was italian and dad was polish.
I am the same BT as my mom so I chose her ethnicity to ID with.

Golfzilla,

I have wondered also if I put in the right choice. I put in Central European. On my Dad's side I have Native American, Scottish and Irish. On Maternal Grandfather's side Icelandic and Maternal Grandmother's side- German and Swedish. I am a rather diverse mix of ...?????? Thought about puttin Northern European, but was afriad I would get more fish...... I shudder at the thought.

Among all the countries your ancestors come from, Germany is the only one that I'd regard as central european. All other countries seem very nordic to me....        Just my... humble opinion

That is a feeback loop, which is clever.  If you want the best advice from the software, you have to give it the best informaion.  So what comprise the center of Europe?  Switerland?  Bavaria?  Slovenia?  Would this enthnic Europe extend to the Urals?

There is a wide choice of fish .... try the setting and see what you get.

Central European sounds best for you.  I don't see the Polish as being very northern.

You could just call be a British mut as I can lay claim to almost anything except Welsh blood.
