SWAMI Xpress GenoType allows one to enter a duffy blood type if theey know it.

I was curious how much SWAMI results changed when people included Duffy blood type.

Those who have been tested, where did you get it done?

Also approximately how much does Duffy testing cost?

maybe Captain Jane will know how this test is done......

In Sweden I asked the Blood Donating Central to print out all the data they had on me (including Rh status, A type) and there was also my Duffy blood group included, so if You are a blood donor maybe they can print out the info to You for free.

Where do you put the results? My SWAMI does not have a specific place for it.

It only present in SWAMI GenoType. I thought it was asked for in SWAMI Xpress, but it is not.

On SWAMI GenoType it is in the second section after Lewis Blood Group and before MN Blood Group.  

I will have to try some of the groups I have donated blood with, they have never volunteered this information.     

does the test go by any other name Jane?

is it called Duffy all over the world?

what were your duffy test results?

the reason I ask is because supposedly, a either plus or minus
as well as b either plus or minus are also a variant....
similar to Lewis results?

if I m a LDN, would my Duffy result also be (a- b-)?

The Lewis and Duffy are two independent blood typing systems even though they use the same letters.

So your Duffy Status is not affect by Lewis, the same as Lewis is not affected by Rh.

A double negative for Duffy would tend to indicate you are of African Heritage. A double negative is rare in other racial groups.

yet the secretor test via saliva is based on hemagglutination inhibition, and that, lab personnel seem to be more aware of or at least understand what one is talking about.

Sounds like (unlike Lewis) Duffy is important to know for blood transfusions so hospitals should be testing for it.

Next blood drive at work i will look into it, curious? I never have given blood but for this I would. I am a pretty typical A so not that it would matter much but information it always good.

Duffy is tested with the anti Duffy antisera. It is tested the same way Lewis is tested only with different antisera.

If I remember correctly, the Duffy sera is made by immunising goats like the Lewis antisera.

Most people are Fy(a+b+), I tested as Fy(a-b+).

If one is a blood donor it is easy and for free to get info about different phenotypes they have tested. The data I got from Blood Donating Central in Sweden on me was the following:

A1+ D- C- c+ E- e+ S- s+ K- Fya- Fyb+ Jka+ Jkb+

On my father they also had Lewis status. I had to pay extra though to have my Lewis status.

Duffy negative people (Fya- Fyb-) are resistant to Vivax Malaria.
