I am sure I filled in the questionaire saying that I didn't need to lose weight. Is there anywhere you can alter this on your personal swami. I have gained weight with a lot of my benificial veggies and fruits. Cannot seem to eat Fava Beans, Parsnips, Sweet Potatoes, Peas bananas, prunes and to keep my weight constant I seem to only eat broccoli, celery, carrots, apples, grapefruit. Even the starches have gone - only 2 rice cakes with breakfast. It is really important to keep my weight down as I have severe arthritus in both knees so am I destined to really limit my diet - I dont really mind because I do feel so well when I eat the foods my body is happy with. Are any others finding this situation please

Did you think about following the arthritis book for a while first? Then jumping into the SWAMI. Sometimes our bodies need to heal things before we can lose weight. I know Jenny ( smart girl that she is) is diabetic and did the Diabetes diet for awhile before starting the Genotype diet.

Yes - thanks Andrea - I do have the book and was thinking about following it but assumed the swami would be a cure - all!! Its non - reversable osteo- arthritus probably caused mainly through having the knee cartilage removed at the age of 18 (some 46 years ago!) after a hockey accident aged 14yrs! my consultant says you usually need a knee replacement after 20 years so the Blood Group diet has really helped me - been following about four or five years now and wouldn't be without it! -I am probably like a lot of others never satisfied and trying to fine tune everything.
Speedy are you really avoiding your avoids, I ask this because I also have osteo-arthrtis, and once I eliminated all of them my paint was gone to the point I didn't need a walker and then didn't need a cane. It (the avoids can be hidden in many place, we must read our ingredients and know especially high fructose corn syrup and white flour need out. Best to you.
I am pretty well compliant - its only my X- rays that show the severe osteoarthritus - my consultant has told me that by eating properly my body has adapted - I still do half an hour on the tread mil and can walk four - to 6 miles before they start to ache - in fact my consultant is very proud of me! I's just that I dont want to put any weight on and all my swami benificials are the starch type and they do put the weight on quickly! Best wishes to all

sounds like your body needs to heal before it works on the weight. Are you exercising?

Thats's the whole point of my little moan! I am not overweight and I do exercise every day - I have worked really hard at this since discovering the BGD about five years ago. My query is that on obtaining the swami most of my veggie and fruits allowed as super foods are putting on weight very quickly - e.g. parsnips, bananas, broad beans, peas, sweet potatoes etc all of which I really love to eat but I have to keep my weight down because of the knees and so my diet is really limited - maybe I made a mistake and cannot follow mt swami and just have to follow the arthritus book or live right for your type - all comments appreciated.

You may have to look through your list and see if their are some alternatives to: parsnips, bananas, peas, sweet potatoes ... that have less of a tendency to lead to weight gain.
Thanks for this information - I will give it a go now and see if it helps! We eat broccoli, celery, carrots and sweet potatoes every night for an evening meal with either fish, chicken or red meat. I was getting quite used to bananas - pity! but its back to apples now! Many thanks for your input
I have gone for vietnamese rice paper wraps filled with a little meat and lots of chopped fresh veggies. About 20 grams per 3 nine-inch wraps. I can almost feel the skin of my cheeks get tighter as I eat them. Since I can't eat more than five in a meal, its only about 33 grams of grains.
One can of tuna, 1 onion, 5 radishes, 10 big leaves of lettuce, and 5 wraps makes me full. I have to wait at least an hour before I even think of having a grapefruit!
Think of it as low GI sub! Isn't that a shocker!

Hunter with inflammation + gaining weight on SWAMI = high extracellular water and water logged tissues. You've got to give this time to shake itself out. It takes time for tissues to change their glycation structure. Maybe invest in some magnesium and carnitine if you want to speed things up a bit.

Thank you Dr. D for your time and advice - I do appreciate this and now feel encouraged to 'have another go!' I have been out and bought L carnitine 500mg to take once a day and magnesium 600 mg to take in 2 x 300mg doses - and will give this and my swami some time to work out now. Water logged tissues have given me trouble most of my life but only below the waist - above the waist I am very bony! As an added comment - there are so many overweight people here in England and so many sticks and ill looking people - I have received many compliments on my slim figure for my age and do my very best to pass on the good news about BGD Best wishes to all http://picasaweb.google.co.uk/willow1945/Carol?authkey=Gv1sRgCMamhoTziJnYCQ#
