I absolutely love my Swami Xpress program, but when putting together my first menu planner I was a little overwhelmed. I spent way too much time putting together my daily menus because I was constantly having to check recipes, etc... to make sure I was getting the proper daily and/or weekly servings of each food group. It would be nice if the menu planner would or could also calculate serving amounts so that we can see if we are adding too many servings or not enough. I know that if we are adding foods or recipes in our daily menu that are not in the menu planner they wouldn't be included in the calculations.

This would be a very helpful feature for those of us who want to lose weight.  We not only have to eat the right servings, but we have to make sure we are getting enough calories.

Is this something that could be doable?

The meal-planner is really just a bonus program which at this point is definitely a work in progress. i plan on overhauling it sometime over the winter.

I've worked out a simple way to record for daily use the frequency of the different allowances. First, make a list such as carbohydrate x 12 weekly, fruit x 3 daily, etc etc. going through all the different categories.

Then prepare a rough sheet labelled 1-7 across the top relating to the next 7 days, then write Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner down the left side, leaving plenty of room between, then fill in the spaces with the words, bev.,(beverage) carb.,  eggs,oil, fruit, fish, live food (ie vegetable), veg. protein, and so on.

Then, before any meal ,a single glance at the day you are working on will provide enough information for an informed trip to the food cupboard. Incidentally I have also re-organized my food cupboards so that carbohydrates are on one shelf, vegetable proteins on another.

Always good to feel organized.

That would be great!  I think it would be very useful if somewhere in the SWAMI package a sample menu could be generated that shows an example of how to arrange all the food types with their frequencies thoughout the week.  It doesn't even need to show the exact food, just the food type, just to get an idea of how to lay out the week's food.  This is really hard for me to get right.  With all my health problems I find it hard to think very clearly, so the more help I could get the better.  I want to be 100% compliant.  Some of the frequencies are hard to understand, especially the dairy, eggs, etc. category.  They are broken up differently in different books, so I am not sure if it means if you have all the portions in milk, you cannot have any whey;  that kind of thing.  These things would be made clear in a sample menu.

Also, in the menu planner, if it keeps track of remaining portions left while adding things to the menu, it would be a great help.

If these things are not possible, is there any other level of support that can be purchased to get help with this kind of thing without traveling to your clinic?  My health does not allow me to travel.

Hi Dr. D.; It's me...I saw you this past Friday....You prophecied that I'd feel better soon, and that if this prophecy didn't come through you'd come up with a new prophecy....lol....as opposed to other docs who when their prophecy doesn't pan out they walk out the back door...lol...
Today's my first day on the genotype food plan (have done the btd on and off in past and also very recently for four months) and my gosh these sugar cravings! What to do about them? Is it low cortisol levels? low thyroid?

Also, yes, you should d/c you previous supplement protocol.

I'll try to see what I can do about moving up the endo appointment.

The finer 'hand-holding' that would characterize a visit to the Wilton Clinic is just not possible at UB. We don't even have proper consult rooms, and  I'm actually dealing with 2 or sometimes 3 patients simultaneously; in addition I have to teach the interns as well. All things considered, I think we do a pretty decent job in the time we have, don't you?

What I did when I became a gatherer, and decided that was the way I was going was to get a large index card and make lines on it first across the cardboard, then I folded the card in half, then in half again, and than in half one last time.  That gave me eight columns,
I went to the second column and put Monday, Tuesday thru Sunday, than went to the next line and listed
Meat 4-6oz(3-5X wk) OOOOO OOOOO OOOOO OOOOO OOOOO OOOOO OOOOO      
Poultry4-6
Fish 4-6 (5+wk)
Live 1C  (4-5Xaday)

each catagory a new line
each time I ate a food I put a check mark in the circle, it helps a lot especially in the beginning

Part of the process is to just start doing it and let the individual figure it out ownership of this WOL is important.

I know I heard Dr. D say on more then one occasion to a patient, " You need to be more narcissistic and care about yourself." So many people just don't care about themselves so they eat anything and think a pill will fix it all.

This WOL requires you to care about yourself enough to make the effort, Dr. D can't do that for you no matter how long the visit is.

Many of the things you were so focused on will disappear and you won't even remember them. You also have the follow up visit to look forward to.

It's probably high insulin levels, if your new diet is much lower in carbs (or at least sugars) than the way you were eating before. You should adapt in a day or so. There are basically two ways to approach this: plug on through, being really uncomfortable in the process, and then it will be over in a day or so. Or, you can gradually ease into it- eating higher amounts of  "good for you" fruits and/or grains and then slowly weaning yourself down to the recomended portions.

Either method will  bring you to the ultimate goal of "eating perfectly for your body type" which will reap health benefits.

Not only do I think you did a pretty job, I think we are both doing it together!
I have been strictly following the BTD for at least 4 months before seeing you and loosely following it for the past year and a half or two, with some glitches in between.....

It was extremely helpful that I was able to see you at UB, because I would not be able to afford your regular clinic's fees plus car service fare that I paid ($200) plus your supplements.....

So seeing you at UB made it affordable and I truly appreciate that!

I do not yet have all the supps you recommended and I do hope NAP ships them soon....

My current endo informed me today that further blood-testing has revealed a very low aldosterone blood level,  and he thinks I should get onto Florinef. Now I know why I've been soooo thirsty lately; and perhaps this explains why my intracellular water was low....

I am doing only diamond and superfoods and  geno-harmonic, cuz I want to get well FAST!

My hypopituitary state begs to be addressed. I eagerly await to hear from you whether your endocrinologist can see me.

I have discontinued my other vitamins, as you had mentioned at our appt.

High insulin?  I've never had high insulin, even when doing a glucose tolerance test, the one that takes 2-3 hours. In fact, I always have LOW insulin.

Hold onto that feeling ... the gene resetting started already ... Enjoy and record these moments in your brain, consciously, so when doubts or insecurities try to overcome you, you can recall them to help you back on track.

ByTheWay (BTW), I am still holding onto those lists myself.  I do not venture outside the house without them, I want to be sure ...  Most of you by now probably memorized them, not me, my genes are not reset enough for that yet and I need the reassurance of the printed paper ...  

Sometimes I do get some funny looks at the supermarket and sort of unintentional negative type comments from dearest around me who are not on the journey (particularly when I made them wait in the car so I can rush back inside to get the food lists!!!), but even these (comments) are becoming less and far in between because they realize that the place I am sitting in/on, has a very strong foundation, and that is the place you get to when you do things with conviction.     It becomes easier ...

In the past two years I have been bringing my own foods to family parties...and when asked about my strange habit I just say I feel so much better on these foods...mind you others have expressed a wish that they could be so self-disciplined.

I carry my own foods with me too.  I always have my Yerba Mate & Kukicha tea bags as well as a BTD Protein Bar with me just in case there is nothing else available that I will eat.  I have to laugh because only you guys here see me as normal...most people call me "strange".
