I had a meeting last night w/ my partner, and he was telling me about a service based in Florida called: ALCAT (Food & Chemical Sensitivity/Intolerance Test) After he explained a bit, I told him it sounded a lot like what Dr. D pioneered. He showed me a sheet of foods he'd had done already, and garlic was at the top of foods his blood reacted badly to. Tomato was on the list too. Has anyone ever heard of ALCAT, and what does Dr. D. think of them? The website: https://www.alcat.com/index.php |

Yes..I've heard of it. I almost did it but I needed someone to draw my blood and thinking about asking my doctors to do it for me.. (I work in Pediatrics in a Med School) put me off..plus the $400 didn't help. Do you think it's accurate? Dr. D never commented that I know of on ALCAT. |

The whole panel costs $1400.00
I'd say SWAMI is a much better bet!
Hopefully Dr. D. will weigh in here. |

OMG, the price went up to $525.00! But how accurate is it? |

He has talked about these tests before. Maybe Lola can find the references to it by him?? |

Good, because I've never seen Dr. D say anything about ALCAT. He's spoken to me personally about Enterolab. |

Not directly but I know he has talked about allergy testing in general.
Lot of money to tell you what not to eat. |

I've heard of ALCAT. I think it tests for antigen binding activity in the blood so it should pick up all the BTD avoids for individuals, but that's only a small portion of what it tests. It should also pick up an individual's food allergies that are not related to blood type or genotype. Good for someone like me who doesn't know what signs or symptoms to enter into SWAMI. So I'd use the ALCAT info to tweak my SWAMI (if that's possible) or at least have a complete picture of "me" in hand from both tests. |

Also, exclusionary type testing is nice, but almost nobody gets any healthier, although they do sometimes get less sick.
The nutritional frontier is to decipher what people should eat, in addition to what they should avoid; and that is usually not the foods left over after allergy/ reaction testing.

I doubt it, since may relations in the GTD/BTD are not antigen/antibody based. |

ALCAT does not typically correlate with ER4YT As much as the proponents of ALCAT would like it to, as they are somewhat supportive of my work. Lectin reactions do not typically cause the manifestation of allergy, though some do. (See Below) The ALCAT test is not a typical allergy test, but rather more like a cytoxic test. http://www.dadamo.com/forum/archive5/config.pl?read=15141

Thanks Lola! Wow that is me way back in 1999. I have come a long way and so has my friend, that is Lorraine A Teacher that I am asking about she visits here infrequently. She still has a way to go in trusting her Teacher SWAMI but she is so much better now. She was unable to follow the ALCAT and continued to struggled with IBS till this year when she started the Teacher diet. |

I've heard of it -- a natural-minded MD (had a home breech birth with her youngest child; is an IBCLC and is *the* breastfeeding doctor to see in her area) that I know by internet did this and recommends it. She's lost 30 lb in a year by a change in diet. But from the sound of her previous diet, it was pretty crummy, so if anybody went to a more fruit-and-veggie diet, esp. including fresh and raw foods and juices, is bound to lose weight and feel better. For her, cutting out cane sugar (in all its ramifications) cured her of her acne. |
