Although I haven't got the Swami yet. I'm assuming that these aren't in. Correct me if I'm wrong. Popular fish varieties from countries other than the US and Canada. Here in Australia for example we have;
Barramundi John Dory
Unless the Swami eventually develops into Country specific versions.

Hard apple cider, which can be made either in a gluten-free way without grain or using barley. I think grain-free/gluten-free tends to be typical in the US and France. |

There are some ciders where barley is used. I don't know if other grains are ever used in the fermentation. Since I have celiac, I have to check the labels and have read that some have barley. It probably isn't that common for barley to be used. Sometimes barley is also used in making sake. |

I'm late, never mind (in the version I know, the old man was planting a fig tree ). There's this wonderful popular French Tomme cheese. It has been a top priority for me at the cheese stall for many years, and I've hardly touched it since on BTD, Feb 2006, so as Pecorino is now a Swami superfood, I would be extatic to have also the Tomme back. |

Lemon verbena or Lemon beebrush, Aloysia triphylla
and
Lemon verbena oil
Lemon verbena adds a lemony flavor to fish and poultry, vegetable marinades, salad dressings, jams, puddings, and beverages. It is used to make herbal teas and sorbet. It has anti-Candida albicans activity.
The major isolates in lemon verbena oil are citral (30-35%), nerol and geraniol.
Other names for Lemon Verbena are Verbena triphylla L'Her., Verbena citriodora Cav., Lippia triphylla, Lippia citriodora, and Aloysia citriodora (Cav.) Ort. |

Kai Lan is different from Chye Sim, yes. It's another green leafy vegetable. Kang Kong is common too, different again. This is a listing of local produce, the leafy veg is on page 4. http://www.freshdirect.com.sg/download/productlist_vegetables.pdfBitter melon and bittergourd I believe are the same - does that mean the tea has the same properties as the fruit? The juices and the fruits are often different, so I wondered if the tea might be different too. |

Brown Rice Protein Powder
I was just coming to ask this! For now I'll consider it a black dot (probably a neutral, but I won't eat it too often just in case it's problematic) but I'd like to know for certain! |

Two more foods I'm wondering about: potato starch and beet kvass.
Potato starch may not have the same rating as whole potatoes because it doesn't have any proteins or fats in it. I doubt it's a wholesome food, but I would like to know if it's a complete avoid, as whole potatoes are, or if it's a neutral or a black dot (meaning that I could safely consume it during Passover when we use potato starch in so many baked goods.)
Beet kvass probably has a very different rating than whole beets- it's fermented, it has probiotics in it, and it doesn't have the fiber and it's probably much lower in carbs as well. The beet kvass is made by coursly chopping beets, adding salt water, letting it ferment about 3 days, and then drinking the liquid (which turns bright pink.) |

pike perch / zander (Is it mentioned in fish list somewhere? I haven't found.)
vendace (Coregonus albula, small freshwater whitefish in the family Salmonidae, usual in Finnish lakes)
Baltic herrings (especially big ones) contain dioxines. So do you recommend still eating it seldom, since herring is diamond superfood for me?
halloumi cheese, especially when completely of sheep's milk?
If quinoa is slight superfood for me, is it good anyway independent of its color (white/red/black)? And what about red rice (rice usually also slight super)?

Spring Greens (used to be known as Pamfrey) available in northern Ireland . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring_greensI love this stuff but don't eat it any more because it is a sort of cabbage. (an avoid for me) however doing a bit of research shows me that it may be a bit like kale. kale is superfood for me but not as easy to get here. i can only get it pre sliced which is not ideal - i am going to start growing it myself when i get a chance-. so.... is spring greens okay for me , can it be classed as a kale or is it indeed a cabbage. thanks |

Do you think Umeboshi paste would have the same value as Umeboshi vinegar? Normally I would think a vinegar would be different, but the paste is pickled/fermented/whatever as well |

Pickled herring -- I wonder if it would have a different value than fresh herring, as it is usually pickled in a vinegar-based brine. |

Arrowroot (the Rhizomes) ... nutritious starchy tuber ...
Quoted Text
ARROWROOT, Canna edulis
An edible canna in similar in apperance to its close relative the ornamental Cannas. Another of the Ancient Inca food crops, it was one of the first plants to have been domesticated in the Andean region. A popular crop in the market place in Peru and Ecuador.
The large round red rhizomes can be eaten raw, cooked as you would a potato or used as a flour and thickening agent. Excellent carbohydrate, the starch is easily digested and is a promising food source. The young shoots can also be eaten as a green vegetable.
The plant is easy to plant, to grow and to harvest. While the tubers multiply prolifically in deep rich friable soil, they are the most hardy of all the tuber crops and grows well in soils where most other tubers will not grow. Has few problems with pests and diseases. Can be harvested after 6 months. Will tolerate heat and light frosts.
Also check arrowroot in this other link: http://productive-garden.com/?m=201003 |

Water Chestnut Flour. Saw this in an asian market recently. I may try some next time to make a pancake. And there is a vegetable that looks like a large taro. malanga Someone posted this on a forum about it:
Quoted Text
....root sold in some groceries that looks similar to taro called malanga. Sometimes malanga is referred to as a large taro. The root looks like a large taro, & will grow & leaf out as a large taro, but it is a different plant.

| My SWAMI diet is a blend of BTD and GTD Explorer, but I'm not totally compliant. Also I try to choose foods that have a Low Glycemic index. DW and DD are A+, probably also Explorer. |

I like using many types of herbs for healing. I've done my SWAMI and have the BTD Encyclopedia but after doing SWAMI, I'm not sure if those recommendations still apply.
So these are the items I'd like to see added:
neem zeolite ashitaba mahuang pu-erh tea garcinia gymnema sylvestre maca skate liver oil butter oil

broccolini is a green vegetable similar to broccoli but with smaller florets and longer, thin stalks. Although often misidentified as young broccoli, it is a cross between broccoli and kai-lan, Chinese broccoli. A natural hybrid of the cabbage family Brassica oleracea italica x alboglabra, it was developed by the Sakata Seed Company of Yokohama, Japan, with the name Chinese kale or gai lan. Broccolini's flavor is sweet, with notes of both broccoli and asparagus http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broccolini |

Thanks for Swami as it is, yet
I would like to see on easier ability to create the food lists... for shopping.
some way of knowing if anything changed, like a date of new input, (not changes created by me.. I copy the list - it is cumbersome to compare it every month. |

Again, I don't know if this has been mentioned before but I would like to see foods that have been eliminated for pesticide load or GMO status added to the list with an *organic only* modifier.
If the only reason these foods are avoids is because the non-organic version is poisonous, then please indicate whether the organic version would be acceptable.

Quoted from 14922
I like using many types of herbs for healing.
I second all of these! |

I assume that the dried rosehips from the bulk bin in the HFS use the value for "rosehip tea" in the "Beverages" section of SWAMI. |
