Just received my swami this morning and have the following query . I have a National Blood Transfusion Service Card which tells me that my Blood Group is O and if I give Blood it can be regarded as O positive. If I need a blood transfusion I have to be considered as Rh negative - is this anything to do with the Lewis factor question - can anyone help with this please

Rh factor (the + or - for blood donation) and Lewis factor are two different things.

There are several different Rh+ factors and I might speculate that you have only one of the less common ones, which would make it better for you to recieve Rh- but make it so you could only give to Rh+. Again, that is speculation.

Trust my blood to be awkward - says it lacks the D antigen - - found out during a difficult childbirth - needed a transfusion of O Rh negative - Advised to GIVE blood only to O Rh positive
My card says Rh type probably cDue/cde

you may be able to obtain this information from the blood center otherwise you may be able to request a Lewis antigen phenotype from the blood center for a charge of course.
